+ help in creating my own sounds
+ create new instrumets based on my sounds
+ play & save MIDI files with my own instruments
+ record MIDI events from keyboard (not MIDI input)
+ (if possible) make a Fourier picture of a sound
+ (if possible) transform Fourier picture to sound

USB midi interface problem

I have music time running on my iMac & it works fine except I cannot get the USB midi interface to work so I can't do real time entry. Its seems the software was written before USB was around. I'm about ready to quit "Music Time" because of this. Does anyone know if there if a USB driver available. Please email if you have info.

.... but I can't find anything. I assume that you use OMS? I use the Midiman 2x2 on a mac G4 and it works a treat with programs that know what OMS is. I assume music time is a bit of an old donkey if it doesn't know OMS and you may find that a newer program is what you need...

If there is an OMS reference in musictime then the interface should work IF setup correctly.. It's not a matter of USB or NoUSB, it's a matter of OMS.

Step 1: ignore people that say you can't

1. Use a low pass filter and tune the filter so that the cutoff frequency is as high as possible without hearing the vocals. This is your low frequency cutoff. All you will hear is bass.

2. Use a highpass filter and tune the cutoff so that all you hear is the highhat and cymabls and no vocals. This is your high frequency cutoff.
3. Put the first cutoff frequency you found (low frequency cutoff) into the highpass filter. Put the second cutoff you found into the lowpass filter. You have now made a bandpass filter that is cutting out the bass and the high treble. Shrink it down to taste (ie so that you hear less of the instruments at the same frequency as the vocals).

4. Splice the audio so that you cut out all the non-vocal parts. Don't worry about the vocal tails (ie don't worry if the vocals just cut out at the end of vocal phrases), as you will reconstitute them later.

5. reconsitute the tails: slap some reverb on the vocal track, and some bpm-synced stereo delay (left side at three quarter notes and right side at 6 quarter notes)

that's it

Depends what format the song is in, but unless the vocals are separate from the instruments, it's impossible to separate them.

Need help with Alesis QS

Hi,

I have the QS8 with the Classical Instruments card. My goal is to use the classical instrument sounds with Finale, but many of the sounds are not in the octave I need. (Bass cl, baritone, etc., are an octave too low.)

So...I would like to assign these sounds to the USER bank, where I can modify their octave. I'm not an expert at programming this keyboard, so please forgive me if these questions sound stupid.

I can get the sound I want into the USER bank, but I'm not sure how to shut off all of the effects that were used on the sounds prior to my changing them. The only effect I would like is a slight reverb. (As opposed to the "Rave Knave" effect...it just doesn't work with the clarinet :)

What is the easiest way to do this? (Kill the effects that come pre-programmed?)
Is there a piece of software I could use with my Mac?
If I ever wanted to, how could I get the original sounds bank in the user bank?

Hi there,

I'm having trouble with loop points.
I have a whole bunch of strings wavs with loop
points. But don't get the option to use the "use loop points" in FLoops.
I do have the option on some string wavs, so i compared the
files in wav lab. The loop points are definitly there!
But still no joy with all the others.
Any hints?

This is easier said than done. Often beats or vocals occupy the same sound frequencies as the rest of the music. So you end up with an inferior recording after you've tried to remove the vox. Best thing to do is hope that the vocals are mixed in the centre. Then they can be removed and it won't be too bad.

creative soundblaster 128 drivers

I have a creative sb 128 sound card that has chipset "creative 5507" on the bottom of it. Does anybody know where to get drivers for this? The soundblaster.com website has drivers for the sb 128, but they don't work with this sound card. Thanks

I have purchased the Sony CRX154E (EIDE) CDRW. when i try through Cd Architect to slect the drive it does not detect my Sony CRX154E (EIDE). the same thing happens when i try to set it myself throug the advanced options.
Does this mean that CD architect does not suport EIDE CDRW's??... please someone help...

Search for combined Echo-Effect with Filter...

I search for an DX- or VST-plugin which does:
Echo-Effect with a Filter-Effect(LP,HP,BP).
But: I want to feedback the output of the filter
to the input of the echo. That means that the 1st Echo
should sound different from the original, and the 2nd Echo should
sound different from the 1st Echo.
(Heard it on a track from Pink Floyd - The Wall)
