You don't do it within Cubasis VST itself. I'm assuming you're referring to selecting which audio input will be recorded, not
which MIDI port. Follow the following instructions.

1. Open your Windows Multimedia Mixer (the standard Windows one) and choose Properties from the Options menu.
2. Click the word "Recording" and make sure there are check marks beside all the relevant input devices.
3. Click OK. This should return you to the main Mixer. Now simply select the input you wish to record from and adjust it's input level.

Recognition! I am having exactly the same problem with "Rhapsody" (a simpler version of "Encore"). I am using Rhapsody with XP, and it is not really compatible. Some things work OK, but others do not, in particular ANY attempt at adding text causes an immediate crash with loss of work. The inability to save, however, has only occurred in the last few days. I wonder if you found a cause?
I was thinking of re-installing Rhapsody, but because of the incompatibility with XP, I have ordered "Finale - Print Music!". I think this might have some similarities with Rhapsody as it will accept Rhapsody files.

: I am using Encore version 4.1 (with Windows 98) and have developed a problem in saving files. Whenever I go to save a file I get the message: "file.enc cannot be saved because the disk cannot be written to". I get this regardless of what disk (hard drive or floppy) I try to write to and have tried every troubleshooting mechanism I can think of. Anyone else experience this?

The supported conversions include CD to WAV, CD to MP3, CD to WMA, WAV to MP3, MP3 to WAV, WAV to WMA, WMA to WAV, WAV Codec Conversions, and two-way video conversions among MPEG, AVI, Multi-Page TIFF, and FLIC. Other items on the conversion menu include Video Constructor and Video Decompiler.
P.S. You cannot convert .wav to midi with any kind of software, due to the nature of Midi, which contain no audio at all - A midi file is simply a list of instructions.

The supported conversions include CD to WAV, CD to MP3, CD to WMA, WAV to MP3, MP3 to WAV, WAV to WMA, WMA to WAV, WAV Codec Conversions, and two-way video conversions among MPEG, AVI, Multi-Page TIFF, and FLIC.

You should check out Cool Edit, Goldwave, SoundForge, Wave Lab or any number of digital audio editors, they will all be able to do what you want. Some change the pitch at the same time, others let you maintain pitch as well. Pretty funky.

If you're convinced that you have installed your software for your soundcard correctly, then your problem may be that a soundcard actually exists on your motherboard and could be conflicting with your other card, or you haven't told cakewalk to use your specific card as the default (possibly in a menu titled audio : advanced settings or something like that). There is a myriad of possible reasons for things not to be working, but I'd be checking those things first, as not every program defaults to the main soundcard, some need a nudge. Good luck. Hope this is of some help.

: Say I have 2 samples of differing lengths, ok, and I want to use them both...say, I want to use sample A for a few and then go into sample B...I load up sample A in the pattern editor, and highlight the first little box. Now, I can get it to repeat seamlessly by adjusting how fast it gets back to the start of the pattern...adjusting the tempo. But the tempo only adjusts for the whole song, not individual patterns. So if sample B is a different length -even if it's in another pattern altogether-- I can't seem to get it to play them both in individual, continual loops. If I set the tempo to play one of them seamlessly, it knocks the other out of whack. I hope I've explained it adequately...there's probably a simple way to do it that I just haven't found yet...anybody know?

: : If I have understood you properly, you want to synchronise samples which have differing tempos - So set the song tempo to the right settings for the first sample as you are doing, then for the other sample(s), open the channel settings box for that sample/channel and use the 'stretch' command to achieve the desired result.
