I won, where's my software?!!
I was one of the winners of Magix Music and Video Maker, but don't congratulate me. Apparently this website is not honoring thier contest winners, in that I haven't received the software. I can't even get a reply to my e-mails, and I'm not the only one. Needless to say, I'm not very happy. What a way to run a business! I guess they just don't care.

Your email had been recieved and has been responded to. Bearing in mind that we announced the winners on Friday and we didn't even know who had won until then ourselves, it's pretty difficult to get the prize to you in the following couple of days. Please have some patience with us. If you know a bit about the people who operate SMM, you'll know we're not out to stiff you. It certainly does us no good to operate in that manner.

Is it possible for to record live from line-in on the computer?All I have is non-MIDI analog synths.I tried a couple of programs with a mixer connected to the line-in on computer could not figure out how to record from line-in.Is there a program especially for that or what,because I don't want to use the computer sounds with all this analog stuff.Please Help Me!!!

Hi Fritz,
First of all, it depends on your soundcard, which one do you have ?
Usually every soundcart comes with its own software mixing tools. That is the first thing to look at and to setup for recording. if you use additional software you have to make sure, that it does not disturb the Functions of the original one. Check out the original software and make sure, that "line in "is activated. I hope this helps.
By the way, "Analog synths" sounds very interesting, what stuff are you doing ? I am using a Korg i3 Workstation, it is not analog
but it has nice Sounds,maby we can do something together or exchange samples or something ?

Hope this doesn't sound lame but the simple solution is the most likely one to work...based on a very imilar experience I had recenctly were all of a sudden I lost my input signal...the sound was there but there was no signal. A friend said to check the volume controls in the control panel.....anyway I figured Duuuuhhhh , yeah right the volume, however I was a dumb ass because what I didn't realise was that there is playback volume and record volume configured seperatley..this may depend on the sound card I guess, so check it out, make sure the mic in line isn't muted by means of the check box.

Input difficulties using CuBasis VST
We have CuBasis VST Ver. 2.0 loaded and operational on a Pentium III 550 MHz 128 Mb Ram computer. The sound card is an SB Live and we are able to record from a Casio 651 Keyboard and a cheap tape recorder mike. We cannot record from the output of an analog PA mixer or from the guitar preamp or a quality microphone with XLR to 1/4" phono transformer adapter. Where are we going wrong? What do we need to get input from the mixer or direct instrument microphones?

select 'midi' as recording device. then, play the midi file you want, and start recording on cool edit. that's all.

aiight its like this, i opened up and wave file of a beat. and then i recorded another part for it with my midi keyboard. but now i dont know how to save it with that extra part. when i save it, it just saves the wave file i opened and not the extra part

well... try saving it as a 'bundle' file, instead of just wave or midi.
another option is: if you have a sound blaster live, select 'what you hear' on the recording device. in cakewalk, create a new audio track, and set it to record. that will play the whole file, and this new track will record the audio parts and the the midi notes as one single audio file. if you have any more questions, just ask.

i be recording with cakewalk and etc, and with all the programs, i just get the same ole sounds. i heard u can get other sounds on there. something called sound fonts, somethin like that.

how do i create a cd with a file that is larger than 700 mb?
i use music match for burning cd's, but when i am trying to burn a full length cd which is all one large file. and its like 114,000 mb. is there any free software out there which will alow my to split the file up, or a way to change music match's settings to burn untill the cd is full, and then burn the rest on another cd?

What format is that?
If it is WAV or AIFF, you could try converting it to MP3. That would compress the file size down a bit.
If it's already an MP3 and you simply can't chop it into pieces, you could try some other forms of compression. I usually don't deal with audio compression so I don't know all the programs that can do it. When I do compress audio, I usually use Quicktime. It has some pretty good compressors. QDesign2 is probably the best choice for music.

Woa... thats a lot of MBs... you should try to split up the audio in an editor... Quartz Audio (freeware) should do the trick, you can find it on this site... simply open the wave file in the editor, make whats called "splits" in the waveform and export smaller sections .

I have a large number of MP3 files that I would like to normalize to a standard volume level. It seems most programs try to normalize in the CD-burning process, but I want to standardize the files themselves so that they are normalized when played on the conmputer. Thanks in advance for software recommendations.

How to run Muse
I'm looking for a proram to convert midi files to
bitmap files, so that I can edit these and print them,
as well as reconvert them to midi files. I downloaded
Muse for this purpose. Now I don't know how to get it
to do anything. When I try to open it, I read, '10
files successfully unzipped' and that is as far as I
get. I cannot access Muse help, or Muse anything for
that matter.

multitrack recording using two 1024 soundcards
Hi, just wondering if anyone had ever tried this, i have got a dmann 2044 (4 ins-4 outs) but its crap and not supported by cubase v.5 or pro tools, i am going to record my band (drums,guitarX2,bass,vocals) using a 24 channel allen and heath desk with 4 group outs, which i was going to use for the kit. at the same time i was going to record one of the guitars as a guide track,using one of the aux outs from the desk,into the mic input on one of the 1024`s. and then put the other
guitar the bass and the vocals on seperate tracks.
has anyone done anything similar? if so please get in touch to discuss any probs you may have had, what software you used etc.

i am wondering how to configure a keyboard in cubasis so that i can start making some tunes. i have got hte midi in/out lead and have put it in the right slot in the soundcard. is there any other setting up that has to be done?

each time i try to use my cd player a message comes up saying cd audio missing file mmjb.exe i have looked for this file but have been unable to find it . can you please help me
Placing an audio cd in the ROM drive results in a message "UNABLE TO LOCATE MMJB.EXE".
when i start my pc i get a box saying file mmjb missing what should i do. my cd audio player will not play cd"s.
I had Music Match on my computer and it automatically played my CDs when I popped them in. Now I deleted MusicMatch and whenver I put cds in it always looks for MMjb.exe and it isn't there.Help me point that to another Cd player program.
When installing MusicMatch Jukebox, you can specify what file formats it becomes the default player for, including audio CD format (.CDA). If you are experiencing the same problem as described in the messages above, the audio CD format (.CDA) is still associated with MusicMatch Jukebox on your computer. Almost all file formats are associated with a certain application, whether it is installed on your computer or not will determine if it can be accessed. If MusicMatch (or another CD playing application) has never been installed on your computer, Windows default CD player will automatically launch to play the CD. When you uninstall MusicMatch the association between .CDA files and the application (mmjb.exe) remains, thus causing your computer to seek out 'mmjb.exe' each time an audio CD is launched.
How to fix it
Within Windows Explorer, view the contents of your CD-ROM drive [right-click 'Explore']
You will see a list of the .CDA files on your audio CD. Right-click on a single CD track and choose 'Open With' then 'Choose Program...'
Click on the program within the scroll box that you want to use to play audio CDs, click the check box labeled 'Always use this program to open these files', and then click [OK] button.
The program you selected is now the default player for audio CDs and will be launched each time you insert an audio CD into your CD-ROM drive. You can use this method to change the default application for running audio CDs at any time in the future, and this can also be applied to most other file formats on your computer (as long as the program selected supports the chosen file format).

mmjb.exe is the main file for musicmatch jukebox. you'll either have to <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/cgi/htdig/htsearch.cgi?config=htdig&restrict=%2Fsmm%2Fprograms%2F&exclude=&method=and&format=builtin-long&words=musicmatch">re-install it</a> or change the file associations on your system. when the CD is in the drive, your PC searches for mmjb.exe to play the CD.

easy cd creator 5 not recognising blank disks
For some inexplicale reason, my software no longer recognises the blank disks in my burner (iomega zip): it just ejects the disks. Nero and easy 3.5 work fine though. what's the problem?
