Recording backing tracks

Not sure if this is the right forum, but....

My wife enjoys singing contemporary songs. Was wondering if it is possible to download songs in MP3 and remove the vocals....leaving only the backing tracks which can be sung to and recorded with.

As you can tell....I ask this question without a clue on what I am looking for. Any guidance re software, websites or other would be appreciated.

called the analogX vocals remover for Winamp. It phase inverts one of the channels. That way, any sound information common to both channels (ie lead vocals) is removed. Not the "ie", as other "ie" words are: bass, guitar solos, anything else mixed equally to both sides.

And any vocals panned just a little off center will not be removed.

Cakewalk: Problem playing waves

I have cakewalk pro audio 8 and want to convert a midi track (triggering my gigasampler) into an audio track. I tried using cakewalk to record it, but it came out with pops and was choppy. So I then used gigasampler to record the midi into an audio wave file. It came out fine, but when I imported the wave into cakewalk and played it, again it was choppy and seemed to jam up/stop while playing.

Any ideas what could be wrong here??

Cris. You need to send your midi to your synth or sequencer as usual. But, this time, connect your synths main out to the line in jack on your sound card. Pick and arm a track in Cakewalk. Now, you can play your midi and record it as audio at the same time. Hope this helps. Write me anytime.

Hi, I had the same problem...
I went to the saler and asked what I can do....I could use his Imation superdisk and then I was in the possibility to install my Logic Audio Silver...
the only way
But there are more problems...

VCR:
Does the audio come out of two holes or one? Are they red and white, red white and yellow? Or Grey and black? Does your vcr only output coaxial (screw on with a pin in the middle)?

Computer:
Are the holes in the soundcard (where the speakers get plugged in)the same size as the headphone jack on your walkwan? Bigger? Smaller?

Write down the answers to these questions, and take them, with the walkman to the nearest radio shack. Tell them what you want to do.

Or ask for a six foot RCA male to RCA male cable and a 1/8" stereo jack male / RCA dual mono female adapter.

Well you'd just connect from the audio out of the vcr to the audio in of your sound card wouldn't you?

I have cakewalk pro-9 audio ans the orchestrator series and someone told me to check cuebase out. I do midis with a one man band. I am always looking for something easier. I have a degree in music but am real slow with the other.I am also interested in buying midis (professional). If you would help me I would appreciate it.

: I got the fruityloops 2 version that came with cakewalk. What I do is add a wave file to the play list in cakewalk then pull up fruityloops, everything is drag and drop so drag out the wave file and drop it on a channel. If you can't do this import a wave file into beat slicer and send
it to fruity loops. only problem is it uses a bunch of channels and paterns

Dude,

It does render wavs. Mine does. That's because it's a legitimate registered version :)

You can do complex drums but it takes a bit of time to get the head around. It depends what time signatures you're after, I guess.

MusicMatch Locks Up

I am using MusicMatch JukeBox Plus 6.00 on a dual 550MHz system with 512M RAM. When it records, it's great. Unfortunately, it occassionally freezes or locks up when recording. It'll be in the middle of a song and just stop. My computer doesn't lock up, just MusicMatch. I have to reboot the machine to get MusicMatch to run again. Anyone else had this problem? More so, does anyone know how to correct this problem. Thanks.

Newbie Recording question....

A friend of mine has a metal band with a couple of friends, and now we've decided to try to record something for the first time.

So I have a couple of (newbie) questions...

Can I connect, ie the bass or guitarr directly to the sound card's line in, without any kind of preamplication, just using a 6,3mm to 3,5mm converter?
Wich program is the best to mix the tracks, if I record one bass, one gitarr, one drum, and so on?
Any free good working program?
Anything special to think about?
Can I split the signal, if I ie want to have it both to the amp and the sound card input?

Hi, You can plug yours amplifier line out on yours soud card line in and for the voice u can use the microphone in (u can take the guitar and bass by this way too... and so for the drum) BUT the sound probably be awfull cause multimedia sound cards are not made for music !!! and you ll have to record only one track at once (imagine a drum taken with on overhead micro...)
i suggest u to use cubase VST (very expensive but u maybe find it somewhere else....) or cakewalk and use it as a multitrack recorder but for a great sound u need a grat sound card With an aditionnal rack to plug yours micros on it and tacke 4 (or more track at once...) The soundblaster's one is not really great and a proffessionnal one is very very expensive (and doesn't fall from a truck really often) Terratek a german company make a sound card with a 8 or 10 inputs rack really cool (but expensive again) BUT i don't know if there is a preamp for the microphone on this inputs and u need it to record from a micro so check it but u will need a lot of money....
i think that u have to record whith a cheap material so do not use a lot of effect or other stuff cause smash the band "energy". remember great albums were made under 2 or 4 tracks...
another solution is to buy a multitracks recorder under minidisk and record on it (even if 4 tracks is short for a drum) and put this tracks into cubase. u ll also can control cubase with this kind of recorders.
U ll need good micro too... so Good luck try it and enjoy.

Its probably just in that song ,and not one of the 404 presets.If you realy wanna use it just delete use the template for new stuff ,delete all the playlist etc and add all your own sounds around it.
The best way is to experiment making your own 404 sounds ,look at the envelopes of the ones you like and tweak away till you get a real nice sound.Its much more rewarding ,some of the presets are great ,but theres nothing better than creating your "own sound".
