I'm not sure if it's what you need but <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Mikeys_mp3_Player/">Mikey's MP3 Player</a> includes DLL engine source code.
On the other hand while this might be a bit of overkill you will find MPEG & MP3 routines in the <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/PlayerPRO_Developer_Kit_mac/">PlayerPRO Developer Kit</a> - it's in C but it's intended for Mac.

This is a forum for musicians to discuss the world of music as it relates to computers.
We really don't mind companies answering questions, giving advice etc. but please try to be a little more subtle.
For example you could have said "Please check out my new piano soundfont and let me know if you like it" and by the amateurish look of your website we might have thought you were genuine :)

Oh come on Alf! Some people like to mention products they have a soft spot for even though the are NOT concerned with the product themselves.
While I'm here could I tell you about my new product Guitar Emulator II? - It's a 16 bit, 24 fret VST plug in available from all good music stores - NOW.
Thanx.

NEED HELP WITH MIDI STORAGE
IM PLANNING TO BUY A ROLAND EM10 OR EM20 that has No Floppy Disk Drive built-in. If I want to save keyboard settings, How do i save it ? What are my options???? Thanks!
Re: NEED HELP WITH MIDI STORAGE
: IM PLANNING TO BUY A ROLAND EM10 OR EM20 that has No Floppy Disk Drive built-in. If I want to save keyboard settings, How do i save it ? What are my options???? Thanks!
The EM10 is basically an entry level keyboard so it
doesn't have all the features of more advanced equipment
but it does have MIDI IN/OUT so it might be possible to
save your settings via a SysEx dump to a PC - you could
try a program like <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/XG_GS_SYSEX/">XG/GS SYSEX</a>
The best thing to do would be to ask one of the stores
that sell this keyboard - I'm pretty sure you'll find
it at <a href="http://www.musiciansfriend.com">musiciansfriend.com</a>
Re: a bit more info
I just realized from your original subject that you
might be interested in saving MIDI files or sequences
rather than keyboard settings - if this is the case
then you can do this by using a sequencer program
on your computer and connect your MIDI Out port on
your PC to the MIDI In port on the EM10.
The EM10 doesn't have a proper sequencer of it's own
so you won't be able to save the midi files directly
on it.
For sequencing software go to

Recommend a good---if not decent---SOUNDCARD?
Well, I guess my illusions of being able to make decent music without a soundcard have been blown out of the water---and rightfully so. Can anybody recommend a reasonably-priced, GOOD souncard? How much do they run? Are they hard to operate? Where is the best place to buy?
Thanks!

Choose a CD Ripper from our <a href="/smm/cat/CD_RIPPERS/">CD Rippers section</a>. CD Ripping software will
record tracks from your CD to WAV format and sometimes straight to MP3. <a href="/smm/programs/MusicMatchJukebox_win32/">MusicMatch Jukebox for Windows</a> or <a href="/smm/programs/MusicMatch_mac/">Macintosh</a>
will record straight from CD to MP3 format.
Best of luck.

You can try using a program called <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/cgi/htdig/htsearch.cgi?method=and&format=builtin-long&config=htdig&restrict=%2Fsmm%2Fprograms%2F&exclude=&words=vocal+remover">AnalogX Vocal Remover</a>

making music with a mac
what kind of hardware/software do you need to be able to hook up & play/record from a keyboard to your computer? (i have a mac g4)
and i've heard lots of good things about cooledit for the pc... is there anything like it for the mac?
Peak/Spark...
Most high tech Software multi trackers have some decent wave editing ability as well as the more obvious ability to Multitrack Audio and Midi information, process it with FX and do almost anything with it, and more. I use Logic Audio Platinum (which is optimised for the G4) on a G4 with 256megs of Ram . I managed 24 'stereo' tracks (48 then) on the bare machine using the internal HD, which is a great luxury. I expect you would get similar performance from Cubase VST. I have a song at the moment that is using 21 tracks of audio and I have about 17 Pluggins and about 11 inline Eq's and there is still a lot of headroom, worth a look!!
Bias 'Peak' is a popular Mac editor and though maybe more basic than Soundforge, or Cool edit, it has all the editing functions that I need. Spark is also worth a look though it's more for mastering and processing individual stereo files, it's excellent at that. I don't use anything else so can't go any further although, like Geoff said, it's worth a look on this site...
Cheers
Steve
Re: Peak/Spark...
where did you get logic audio? i want to buy it, but i can't find it anywhere..
thanks to both steve & geoff!!
It's expensive,
Because Logic Audio is a Pro package, the top flight version is about £550 in England. They do Logic audio AV (and other versions inbetween) which is less than £100 that may suit your purpose although you might want to check out the AudioWerk2 PCI card which will give you excellent audio quality and an SP/DIF connection. The package includes some software including Logic Audio AV. It costs about £150 for the card and the software and maybe an option.
Check out their website and find out about the products. I personally would go to the local Hi-Tech music shop where they will almost certainly have it on the shelf.
Cheers

Making music with software/shareware: PLEASE HELP A NEWBIE!
If any of you have patience to answer a question that's probably been asked a billion times (I have searched the archives to no avail) I would be very appreciative. I was wondering if any shareware programs will allow you to create using music utilizing ONLY your computer (no MIDI hook-ups or soundcards). I'm thinking about drums, synth (virtual), loops, patterns, samples, etc. I have Hammerhead, which is pretty cool, now I have to find some programs that allow me to create synth tracks, bass lines, loops, samples, etc. and MOST IMPORTANTLY a program which will allow me to mix all these disparate elements together. Naturally, the quality won't be that great---but I'm doing it just for fun anyway. Thanks a million to the fearless soul kind and patient enough to answer these questions.

A program called modplug tracker is freeware that allows you to compose original electronic music.
Just search modplug on any search engine.
Re: Making music with software/shareware: PLEASE HELP A NEWBIE!
EVERYTHING you need (apart from a soundcard!) T is at www.sonicspot.com and listed clearly as 'Free' or otherwise. There are indeed some fantastic free music tools about and it is the way to go for any novice. You can download a demo of fruityloops (which is incredible) and export .wav files with it!!! Blows Hammer out of the water!
PS if u hear anything from your PC at the moment you have a souncard. If not you can get one for 30 UK pounds and fit it yourself easily - go for it!

: : Sorry to shatter your dreams my friend, but although there are 100's if not 1000's of software programs for all of the things you require and much much more (A great many excellent music/audio programs being free), none of them will be of any use without a soundcard.
Fortunately, most modern soundcards have good quality, and come with inbuilt MIDI sound. If you're not after Hi end professional sound, the lower end cards will do a great job for you. N.B. You must have a "Full Duplex" soundcard.
Believe me, if you have any musical imagination, It is well worth the small investment. I know I have gone on for a bit, so let me just get to the bottom line : No soundcard equals no sound!
As to the programs, well the most comprehensive collection of free, shareware, and demo audio/midi software site I can recommend is : http://home1.swipnet.se/~w-17723/musicpro.html
You could also try shareware music machine.com
Re: Making music with software/shareware: PLEASE HELP A NEWBIE!
Hi,
You're going to need a soundcard if you want to hear your music as you compose. If you want software as you describe, I'd recommend <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/FruityLoops_win95/">FruityLoops</a>.
Cheers
