software for 1/2 speed mp3 playback ?
There is plenty of software for slow speed playback of CDs and/or wav.-files (SlowGold, CD Looper, Musician's CD Player etc.), but does anyone know if this can be done with mp3 files ?
Recording limit using Wavelab
just wondering if anyone knows if there is a limit to the file size you can create (by recording) with wavelab. I tried to record for a few hours something from the radio, but it only recorded about 2 gigs worth, and then stopped and left the file corrupted so i cannot even use it now. The drive still had 6 gigs to spare!!
Thanks for any info

Start Me Up Help please
Please help me figure out what I need to start multi-track audio/MIDI recording with the high school's music stuff. I am a newbie wanting to volunteer with students after school.
HERE'S WHAT I WANT TO DO:
Get high school student interested in multi-track recording using the school's Macs (8 - 10 tracks bounced down to four or stereo).
Final products might include complete songs on music CD's for boombox quality. Songs might have all but one instrument present so the missing instrument player could practice. MIDI pieces (long running blues loops) could be built for students to practice improvising in the any desired key.
HERE'S WHAT WE HAVE:
iMacs and Power Macs (5400/180 56mb) and possibly a G4.
One copy of OPCODE Studio Vision Pro and one copy of Coda Allegro
Microphones
PA
Midi Keyboard
One single-line A/D converter with MIDI via serial phone port
Fender and other guitar amps with pre amp line outs
HERE'S WHAT I FIGURE IS THE MINIMUM TO GET STARTED ON A $1000 BUDGET
Darla or Wave 424
Small mixer (Mackie 1202 VLZ pro or Carvin similar) for pre amp inputs and monitoring play/record to PA/stereo
CD-RW for archivng MIDI/Wav/StudioPro files and making music CD's
ALL HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED
ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS
What is the minimum recommended hard drive if we keep audio tracks limited to 7-8 for all the editing and bump down to 4 tracks or stereo for archiving and printing. How would 12 MIDI tracks add to this recommendation?
What CD software is better than TOAST for archiving and burning music CDs?
Should I forget all about my Swissonic Studio posting?
THANK YOU

Re: how do i convert mp3 to a file that can be copied to a cdr a
You'll need an MP3 to WAV converter.
Go to www.download.com for some good free ones.
I use MP32WAV Professional.
Just download it, open the program, select which tracks you want to convert,
add them to the job list, and then click mp3 >> wav.
But you can use whatever program you wish.
Just as long as it converts MP3s into WAV files.

help burning cds!
Hi,
Okay I am still having problems burning cds... I have the Adaptec Easy CD Creator software. I tried to burn cds, but it only plays in my cd-rom drive, not in a regular cd player. I selected the option to make an audio cd, not a data cd... and I did click at the beginning to 'close session'. Although I don't think the session closed because next time i insert it it says Im on session #2! And the button is not clickable to close the first session...
Also yesterday I erased a cd and reburned it. It shows that those tracks exist on the cd, but even when I try playing it in my cd rom drive it has no volume at all!!! What is the prob???
Need help ASAP! Thanks

Hi Jen
Sounds like you are trying to burn re-writeable media and then using it in your audio cd player?? Well if this is the case, it usually doesnt work. You need to use write-once-only media. Also burn at a low speed, like 2 speed or single speed. As far as no audio from your cd rom drive...sounds like a different problem.. Do other audio cd's have volume? If not check windows mixer, or cable that connects CD rom drive to soundcard.
Cheers

How to convert an MP3 file to a Wav. file from Napster.
These CDs will play on any CD player!!!
If you have an MP3 song from sights such as Napster and you want to convert that format into a Wav. File the kind that CD players read. You go into your CD recorder program click on audio CD. A list of a different drives comes up. Click on the C:/ drive. A bunch of files will come up scroll down until you get to program files. Click on program files there they will have a bunch more files scroll down to Napster and click on it. Then 2 files will come up Music and incomplete. Click on Music. From there all of the files that you downloaded from Napster will come up. There will be all of your audio songs on the top right hand side. The ones that you can use will say ok on the side. If they have a red symbol you can’t move them or use them. The bottom it will be empty/blank. Drag the songs that you want on to the bottom. You do that by clicking on them and dragging them with the mouse. When you have all of the songs that you want on the track that fit on the size disk that you want click on the record button. Most of the songs on Napster are burnable however there happen to be a few bad ones. For this I apologize. When a bad song comes up it will stop recording on your CD the songs that where recorded before it are not playable either. (The CD much finish in order to work at all) If this happens the disk that you just used is not record able any more. Just throw the blank CD away and reburn another CD with out the song that caused the trouble. Your burner will show the name of the track that stopped the recording if you are using Napster. If you delete the song and redownload the same song again it will be likely to burn. (No guarantees but more than likely) If you just try to do it again it will not work.
I recommend TDX audio only CD (CD-R) if you do not have it you can use any kind of CD.
Important Note Before Burning:
If you burn at a speed of over 6 times it usually fails. It does not matter how fast your computer can go. So select 6 times or less if you have a CD writer that can write at 8 times or faster, some burners can only burn at 4 times for those you don’t have to worry. To select the speed that you want it to burn at go too advanced features and select 6. Some systems have a thing that you slide across and it will say speed times whatever. If you have thing that says emulate only or write on the fly select no for those to things and keep burning speed at 6 or less.
Money Saving Note:
If you buy in bulk or even if you don’t the blank CD should note cost more than $2. They usually cost a $1.50 or less. Some places cell blank CD’s for as much as $5 each that is a rip off the quality of the CD is not any better than $1.50 or $2 one if that is what you are thinking. There are some deals that are even sweater than that.
How to Burn MP3 songs straight to a disk in MP3 format.
Warning:
This CD will only play on an MP3/CD player or on your computer. You must have an MP3 player on your computer such as Napster or Winamp. Which if you don’t have you can download it for free.
Click on your CD burner program and select Data CD. Click on C:/. There is a list of files. Scroll down until you see program files. Click on program files. There will be a list of program files scroll down until you find Napster (or what ever program you use to download MP3). If you use Napster click on it and there will be a music and incomplete file. If you want all the songs that you have on Napster on your MP3 disk which is usually possible. You can get any where from 10-20 hours of music in this format depending on how good the quality is. A time saving trick if you want all of your MP3's on one disk click on Music from the Napster files and drag the whole thing down. Your computer will transfer all of your songs to the bottom instantly. Saving you the hassle of having to drag each and every file down. If you want most of the songs on your CD but you want to eliminate some of them click on Music. The Music files will open up and you will be able to eliminate any songs you do not want by clicking on them and hitting delete to get rid of them the songs must be highlighted in order to work. If you have less than 140 songs then you probably have enough room. 140 Songs is a conservative estimate and you can usually get more than that. If you have no idea of how many songs or how much data the songs take up it will tell you on the bottom when you bring down music from the Napster application. The information is displayed on the lower left hand corner. If the information is more than what you are able to burn the record key will not turn red. If the record key turns red the songs are burnable/recordable.
Maxell is the best type of CD to use for this format. Do not use CD that say's Audio only they do not work for these types of files. If you have a CD that says for the computer they work best.
How to make a Combo CD…
To do this first click on Audio CD in your burner program. Then go to E:/ or the letter of your CD Rom. From there all the songs on the CD will come up in the order you play it. If you want all the songs on the CD just drag them down to the bottom. If you want to leave some of the songs out just don’t drag them down the burner will only record what you bring down in that CD. When you are threw with that process go to C;/ and click on it. Then Scroll down to program files and click on it. Then go to Napster click on it and then click on music. There will be all of your music that you downloaded from Napster on the screen. Just click on the songs that you want and drag them down to the bottom. Put all the Napster songs at the end so the CD burner can read the songs off of the CD first.
Questions about Combo CD’s…
What is a Combo CD?
A combo CD is a CD that is made using a regular CD and adding Mp3 formats to it from sights such as Napster to it.
Since a regular CD is in Wav. Format and Napster is in the MP3 format will they be playable on a CD player?
Yes, as long as the CD was created in the Audio format.
Warning:
Unfortunately some of the CD’s have copyright protection on them so they will not copy. Most CD’s that are copyright however don’t have a copy protect on the CD. An example of a CD you cannot literally copy is Shagy’s new album. Most albums however are burnable even if they say copyright.
For this I would use a TDX audio CD but you can use any type of blank CD.
On the rare occasion that you have problems here are some trouble shooting tips.
If the blank CD is not long enough to copy the CD or large enough to hold the Napster songs you put on it you will not be able to copy it. Even if it is just over by 1 second. Solution take a song or songs off.
My CD started to copy but failed in the middle and will not play. This happens when the songs or CD is protected from copying. Unfortunately there is nothing that you can due about this. Except throw out the CD and get a new one with the knowledge of what caused the damage. It will say whatever track made you fail. So you know next time what song you must eliminate from your list.

Re: help burning cds!
Here are my two bits.
Make sure you are using brand name CD-R. Some bulk/no-name CD-R
are almost transparent and cannot be read by all CD players.
I speak from experience. My wife's car CD player will only play those bulk
CD-Rs if I put black tape over them. Not a great solution!
As for your volume problem, If you can play regular CDs in your burner then
everything is connected OK and I can't really say where the problem is. However
if you cannot play regular CDs, then check the audio connection to your sound card.
My Turtle beach Montego has one input so I choose to
connect my CD-R to it instead of my CD-ROM 'cause I play more with the former ;-)
Good luck.

WHERE CAN I FIND GOOD U2, BEATLES, CLAPTON, & MORE MP3 SITES?
I've so far only found a FEW GOOD sites.
But the artists I'm mainly looking for are:
U2
Eric Clapton (by himself & with other groups, like Cream, etc.)
Jethro Tull
Beatles
RUSH
And pretty much other "oldies" (late 60's into the 70's).
So far I've only found crummy sites that only have a few MP3s, or the ones they do have are poor quality.
BTW, Real Audio is cool too as long as it's a full length track and it's in good quality.
(Good quality and full length goes for MP3 sites as well).

Ok, so you need an MP3 to Wave converter, eh?
Well go to www.download.com and try typing in a search.
I personally use MP32WAV PROFESSIONAL.
It's a decent converter, simple to use and operate.
I've used it to make several discs already (for my own personal usage, of course.)

HELP - Convert MP3s from 128 KBPS to 64 KBPS?
I have a rio mp3 player, and would like to know if there is any software I can use to reduce the size of my mp3 files so I can fit more songs into the 32MB memory. Most of my mp3s are 128kbps. I thought if I could somehow convert them to 64kbps, I would have smaller files enabling me to fit more music on my Rio player
Vinyl to mp3, restoration
I am converting vinyl LP's to mp3, and have been
looking at restoration software (demos). Most will remove
small pops & clicks, but have difficulty with big
scratches (unless they are handled one-by-one, which
I don't have time for). Sound Forge seems the best -
any other suggestions, special settings, etc?
I have not tried Steinberg.

This is not a answer to your question but rather a question to you. I am trying to record LPs onto my computer just as wave files, but I can't get them to record in stereo. I am using win 98 soundrecorder. What do you need to record in stereo? How do you route it? Through the mic jack?

First, you should try an audio input jack (sound
in) rather
than mic jack. Mic jacks and plugs are often mono
instead of stereo. If by "win 98 soundrecorder"
you mean a little system applet, you would
probably be better off with a real audio program,
which there are lots of on this site. Finally,
it could be your sound card, although almost all
now are stereo.
Good luck,
Dowty
