Sound Bites From CDs????

to get audio-tracks on your HDD as MP3 you could
use AudioCatalyst. it directly encodes the
tracks as MP3.
if the RealProducer also exists as mac-version
choose it to create RAs.

Removing vocals or background music

Is there a software that can remove vocals?
Also, is there a software that can remove the background music while keeping the vocals?
Currently I am using GoldWave 4.02(It removes vocals, but makes it sound distorded)

I think you can get it at
www.analogx.com

it's a directX plug-in. to remove vocals you
could try the following:
(therefore you need the VocalRemover and the
NoiseReduction plug-in from sonic foundry)

remove a vocal from a sound-file and save it.
enter the noise-reduction plug-in and analyse the
file without vocals. then load the original one
and let the noise-reduction cut out the music.

don't know if that works, I didn't try it before.

This program has no competitors.
When I downloaded the demo MIDI files are absolutely
amazing!

It costs just $65 bucks. This is MUCH lower than
autoscore or sound2midi..:-) !!

enter the preferences in WinAmp and select the
disk-write plug-in with a double-click. then
leave the preferences-menu, select your MP3-file
and click on play. WinAmp will now decode the
file as WAV.

SB Cards

Can anyone tell me what's the difference (besides the price) between the SB Live & the SB Live Value? Which one is better for multitrack recording? (I would like to record Bass, Rhythm Guitar & Vocals at the same time). How many inputs does each card have? Any general comments about the cards?

The only difference is that the value doesn't include the dig I/O board. Check out the new "platinum" at www.sblive.com. Great new setup with all your connections mounted in a drive bay (ala EMU APS).

In general for multitracking, you'll either need a more expensive card or an external mixer. The SBLive has 1 linelevel in and 1 mic in and that isn't gonna get you too far. Works great with a mixer, though!

Thanks for the reply. Do you think that this means 1 mic & 1 Line-in on the card PLUS the mic/line-in on the bay giving 3 separate inputs?
Secondly, the S/PDIF input, is this a standard guitar lead jack or the standard jack on a modern stereo?

I have tried cakewalk express which i found reasonably good , but i have just downloaded a mixer (4 channel) from mixvibes.com/mixvibes it looks promising so why not check it out

You can also go to the <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/new.html">what's new page</a> occasionally. Today we have <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/MixPEG/">MixPEG v1.1</a> which is a real-time MP3 mixing machine. Other than that, you can can to the <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/MP3/">MP3 section</a> or the <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/RE-MIXING_DJ/">DJ/remix section</a>.

downloading popular midi files

I used to be able to download midi files and then play them in performer on my mac. It doesn't seem to be possible anymore. Is this because of copyright problems. Is it possible to purchase popular midi files legally on the net somewhere.

Cool Edit has the possibility to add EQ to (a part of) a WAV with a start-setting and an end-setting so it automatically "fades" from the start-setting to the end-setting (example: flat -> no bass).
Are there other multitrackers with this feature ?
If so, is this feature destructive ?
(because CE applies the EQ permanently to the WAV)

Maybe there is a workaround for this in other tools ?
I have already heard of Vegas, Multiquence,...but I've no experience with them.

I hope you can give me some advise...

you should have the same options in logic audio.

but I don't think that it's destructive, as long
as you use it in realtime. if you want to save
cpu-power you can add the eq to your sample and
then it's destructive.

Maz sound tools has a bunch of links as well as reviews. Can't remember the url but do a search on Maz sound tools and it should get you there.
Also, you can get original SimSynth here, its great! Also, for a measily 40buck (US) you can get Audio Compositor which is awesome. You can get a full working demo at their web site. Best of luck.

i see a lot of messages here where people don't seem to grab the concept of recording audio files to a cd for use in their home stereo etc. i have tried to help these people and i have also seen that "sniffa' is also contributing to these peoples problems. so before you start pulling your hair out, read this

1. any audio file that you want to put on cd and listen to in an ordinary cd player must be in 16 bit stereo 44100hz.

2. with some cdr software, you can drop mp3 files into an audio session and they will convert back to cd audio
providing they are constant bitrate.

3. there seems to be a lot of people who think that they can put a hundred or so mp3 files on a cd and then play it in their cd player. this is incorrect. you can put mp3 files onto a cd in their original size, but these are data files not audio.

I hope this will clear up some of the confusion..

Say I can't find anyprograms that convert WAV files to CDA.
I just got a CD-R and have some songs in MP3 and WAV and when I try to write
my files to the CD it has the tracks, the information in the files on the track
just refer to where the file is on my hard drive. It doesn't write the files.

I have the same questions. Suppose, using CoolEdit, I created a few files and want to save it to a CD for playing on a regular player. Is it possible to this with only an 8 bit card? I canot record in 16 bit.

throw it away and buy a 16 bit stereo card.
they're not expensive. about 40 bucks
you cannot put 8 bit files on a cd as audio.
even if you could, the sound would be total crap!!

Roland U-220 SysEx needed for General MIDI
