You might like to take a look at software from PG Music Inc. Band-in-a-Box allows the user to enter chord progressions via a regular computer QWERTY keyboard and then applies a selected style to that chord progression. It wil generate a 3 to 5 part rhythm section in the style you choose.

See my reply to "NEED a "sequencer reccomend" for old 486(WIN'95)"
Why not try to find a cheap MIDI controller keyboard as well? (Perhaps in a second hand shop?)
Quite modest keyboards can be found with MIDI these days.
That would be an ideal input device for your lady.
I can't think of any software that works in the way you describe... anyway, if she aspires to something
more than a melody of a few notes, a sequencer like Evolution MIDI that works like a 'piano roll' is easily learned and can produce
very rewarding results.

As far as software programs that might work under
windows 3.1 I can only think of a few. I know there is a good shareware sequencer called "Winjammer" you could type that into a search engine and I'm sure you'd find it easily. Another approach you may take are DOS programs such as the music "trackers", these allow you create songs by looping actual samples of sounds together at different pitches (I'm quite addicted to it myself) you could find some of these programs at
http://www.united-trackers.org
Hope this helps you, all of the programs I listed are completely free too if that's of issue.

record real audio/video
does anyone know a tool which allows you to record real audio and real video streams?
thanx

Re: record real audio/video
Hey there,
You could always buy the product off Real.com or you can check out The Virtual Audio Cable for Windows 95, 98, NT, 3.1. It digitally records the audio output from one or more programs, even if they don't let you save wave files.
Cheers

Re: record real audio/video
I use Total Recall to record all sound from my PC.
It's about the cheapest one that I've found, I spend ages looking for a free one but could not find one. It's easy to use but has plenty of features.
It can record from Mic, all sounds, or any other input you choose and the recording length is unlimited. It will also record any streaming audio from the web.

Re: record real audio/video
I've been looking for one myself. There's lots of audio rippers, but I'm looking for one to record music video streams: With my slow connection, there's too much buffering... a recorded file would be smooth as day.

Sounds like a pretty serious problem - it would be best to contact Syntrillium's support for this one at support.syntrillium.com

awe64 gold pitches up a full note, now and then, with midi
When I record something, using Cubase or Evolution, the sound on some channels is sometimes shifted up a full note ! I compensate by transposing the channel down by 2, however, after a few play/stop trials, or clicking on a few notes, the sound is back to normal again, so I set the transpose back to 0. It's a very strange thing. Sometimes, halfway of playing a track, the sound gets back normal... anyone ever experienced something similar ? (am using win98 with latest drivers from internet)

I have also experienced similar problems when recording on awe-64 via my PC-200. I woul appreciate any assistance in solving this pitch shift problem.

Re: awe64 pitches up a full note, now and then, with midi
I had the same problem. In my case it was my masterkeyboard (Roland PC-200 MK-II). What caused the problem. I had to send my AWE64 back to CreativeLabs and they fixed the problem.

hmm.. I just "upgraded" to a soundblaster live! and i thought it was alright, but I seem to have the same problem now.. didn't call creative just yet though. Any idea what they did ? Are we really the only 2 persons to have noticed this.. hummm.. why me :)

Re: How do I convert wav 2 mid!
Unfortunatly the simple answer to your question is no....as is the complicated answer....
midi and *.wav files are not the same thing at all and are not intechangeable.
*.wav files contain actual data that is used to recreate a waveform, midi files contain only general instructions for reproducing music.
The only real option you have is to listen to the CD and transcribe it, or play it into your comp using a midi instrument.
Music programs at present can only convert monophonic *.wav files to midi, and even then there are not that good at it......
The reason there is no software to do this as yet is because there is no method none for doing it, research is currently underway into designing models to electronically recreate the Cocktail effect that we implement with our own ears. The cocktail effect is basically the ability to distinguish between background noise and a source that you want to listen to. The research is no where near complete, and is at the very very basic stages. ( I am a student at the ISVR, they are world leaders with most things to do with acoustics ).
I suggest that you don`t hold you breath wating for this to happen, to be honset there is not much use for a piece of software that does this, it sounds nice and impressive but it don`t actually do much.
So if you can`t play any instruments then I suggest you buy the score of the music and get clicking and dragging those notes........ :)
I expect some nice person will put a URL for a detailed explanation of *.wav and midi, I think there is one on this site somewhere.
Sorry I could not give you a more usefull answer, but that is the wya things are at the moment...

Where is a program to create java applet computer games?
I am interested in computer programming and I have created basic manipulation of actions for a computer game, but I cannot manipulate the movement of my character(s) using the keyboard... How do I do this?
Ps- I have little or no knowledge of computer language; I use various programs to create my preliminary applications...
Re: How do I convert wav 2 mid!
