Recording while playing MIDI music

Dear folks,

I must be stupid but I looked around and nowhere I seemed to find this information:

If I play a MIDI track using a sound card, can I record the sound thus produced onto the same computer as a .wav file?

The reason I asked is because I tried the simple thing, connecting the input of the soundcard to its output, and what I got was a screech of feedback (the noise from the analog cable just got multiplied).

Do I *have* to have an external expander? Or do I need two soundcards? Or is the solution so obvious and has escaped me?

I need a cheap PC solution to converting scanned images of music notation to midi.

There was a program called Capella-scan at one time but I can't find it now. Also there is MAC program Noteview - is there a PC port????

You should also take a look at Musitek products at www.musitek.com .
Good luck - as for me, notation scanning hasn't spared any time up to now.
Entering everything by hand is usually faster (at least in Finale, Encore,
The Note Processor and Capella).

I have a memorex 2x2x6 Cdrw. I need to know how to make a wav file play as a cd track. I cant seem to do it. I put it in my stereo and all it is, is a data track.

The basic way to do this is to make sure that you are creating an audio CD, not a data CD. This should be a selectable option somwhere. I use Adapetic Easy CD creator, when you drag a 16 bit 44kHz wave file on to the Audio CD layout window it adds it as a track. If you do that on the on the Data CD layout window then it puts the wave file on as a data file.

I hope that helps some..........It will really depend on you software I think.

Download RealPlayer (free) and RealPlayer Encoder (free)...very simple after that.

the only way i can think of is to export to VHS (wish i had a digital handicam)than back into avi/mpg

yes, with youre pc if it has a digital (optical or SpDiF) exit. (Sb live platinum has that). You could make cd's of you're mp3s then.
or you could use the line outof you're pc to connect ot the music installation you have, then record analog. (you will get some noise because most ps soundboards suck).

Guillemot ISIS/Logic Audio Pro

I have recently acquired the Guillemot ISIS and I'm really pleased with it - I have even managed to keep my Midiman DMan/DB50XG working for synth sounds!

A few questions though -
1) where are/will the latest drivers/updates be posted? There doesn't appear to be anything on the Guilllemot sites or the Maxistudio site.

2) I keep getting "PC AV" error messages in LA Pro ISIS - initially I got them when loading a demo song and now the songs stop playing so, variously, I've had "PC AV" faults numbered 4, 5, 6, 11 etc.

3) Can LA Pro ISIS direct it's MIDI output to an external synth e.g my DMan/DB50XG?

4) How can I hook up the output of my Dman/DB50XG to the ISIS, preferably internally?

5) Are there any plans for a future upgrade to
a) allow the DSP FX to be used in Console mode and/or
b) enable routeing of the MIDI signal back to the board internally?

Please let me know if you can help.

I m afraid i can not help you with your questin, im thinking of buyin the isis card and your comment on the midi function worries me.I have a Korg z1, and would really flip if I found I could not control it from/through the card, i mean that is the whole point of a sequencer, right? I want to be able to "hang" several modules on it as well, like a drumcomputer.... hope this message reaches you and, maybe you find time to answer my question?? ,greetings nicojan

Guys, I just saw this message and I know its sometime since these have been posted, but maybe this will help someone...

1.) Latest drivers appear to be on Guillemots web site.
2.) PCAV errors??? Yeah it happens a bit. I don't know what it means. But I usually find that turning the volume down helps.
3.) Yes, this is done thru the environment.
4.) Yes, this is done thru the environment.
5.) I don't understand this one.

I had the PC AV Problems too, until I uninstalled the Yamaha XG Softsynth
Everything works fine since then.
(The problem XG-Softsynth and Logic Audio occured also with an other soundcard and an Logic Audio 2.5)
Maybe if you have a software-synthi installed, which uses Audio-Resources at the same time with Logic Audio, you will get AV-Warnings

Midi Type1 to Midi Type0 batch conversion

Some midi equipment, e.g Technics, only reads Type0 midi files (better ones, e.g. Roland, Solton read both Type 0 & 1 midi files). Is there a program that will do a batch conversion of a disc full of Type 1 files to Type 0 files? It is a pain to have to convert each one individually!

Logic: installing on a G3 (no floppy)

I'm updating my Logic Audio software on a G3 - Macs no longer come with floppies - so I can't insert the authorisation disk. On somebody elses computer I tried making a disk image - but it won't allow me to copy the disk.

Is there any alternative out there to using a floppy?
