Let's say a total musical novice is trying to convert a MIDI file to a WAV file. He's downloaded several popular programs for doing so, but is totally baffled because he keeps getting the message that PRG files are missing. Help file isn't. Tech support doesn't.
He knows he isn't the first one who wants this info.
What is he missing? Where should he turn?

I've just tried to install a new copy of music time; although I have installed the right fonts the display is not right-notes don't come out as notes, bar lines are broken and time signatures are not centred on the staves. Anyone know why?

Perhaps your printer ports are incorrect. Try some guitar midi file download sites that discuss this. Start with Guitar Salon.
Good Mixing Software?

I like to create "mixed" CD-Rs (all the selections are segued together) of wav. files ripped from my CD collection. I have been using MULTIQUENCE to do this, and find it to be decent software. But it has a few deficiencies and I would like to try out some alternative software.
I don't need anything too complicated. These CD-Rs are for me and my friends, etc. I just want to be able to easily mix music, control the volumes (Mutiquence allows this, but the interface is quite inexact), and save the final mix to a wav. file.
Any suggestions are appreciated, as are e-mail responses.

Mark, you cannot just copy a windows application to another computer and expect it to work. You need the information stored in the registry, .ini
files and stuff in the Windows\System folder.
The way to do it is to use something like Cleansweep Uninstaller which can trace all of the component program parts and transfer them to another machine.

Right click on your audio-in module and choose properties.
In this menu you can change you audio settings.
Make sure to use a DirectX audio driver and reduce the latency time until your response is as fast as possible.(my time lag is down to 30 ms, which is virtually nil)

Generator is a musician's wet dream, and yes, it runs fine with a sequencer.
The fun is that you can assign different instruments to each MIDI channel.
Of course there is a downside to this magnificent program, it needs a lot of CPU power so the Pentium 166 is a bit slow.
Have you tried the demo yet? If not download it and see how it works for you.
I'd seriously consider upgrading to a faster CPU if I were you (but then again I'm not..)
Any decent soundcard will do, if you buy you get an extra dedicated soundcard for use with Generator ONLY.
try it and love it...:)

I use an AMD K6-2 300 CPU, i'd recommend using Intel though.
(the faster the better,possibly the cheapest solution would be using an overclocked Celeron 300 Cpu, this is not the safest thing to do, but in some cases you can clock them as high as 400 or even 450)
Polyphony depends on the complexity of the instrument and the samplerate. This means that with one instrument you may get 16 note polyphony at 44.1 MHz but using a very complex instrument you may end up with a monosynth...
Generally it's possible on my system to use say 4 Generator instruments simultaneously, of which 2 are monophonous (a bassline and a lead synth), and the other 2 are 3-part polyphonous (strings&pads).
You'll have to do a lot of experimenting to find out what Generator can do...

Make sure to use a DirectX audio driver and reduce the latency time until your response is as fast as possible.(my time lag is down to 30 ms, which is virtually nil)

GENERATOR SOFT SYNTH
I just want to know if you can use generator with a sequencer like cubase and come up with a good result. Is that possible if you´re system is a 166 pentium? I also want to know what kind of soundcard you need to get a decent result...and finally is the program worth buying?

Generator is a musician's wet dream, and yes, it runs fine with a sequencer.
The fun is that you can assign different instruments to each MIDI channel.
Of course there is a downside to this magnificent program, it needs a lot of CPU power so the Pentium 166 is a bit slow.
Have you tried the demo yet? If not download it and see how it works for you.
I'd seriously consider upgrading to a faster CPU if I were you (but then again I'm not..)
Any decent soundcard will do, if you buy you get an extra dedicated soundcard for use with Generator ONLY.
try it and love it...:)

Ok...so what cpu do you use ? How many instruments can you use with the sequencer simultaneously?

I use an AMD K6-2 300 CPU, i'd recommend using Intel though.
(the faster the better,possibly the cheapest solution would be using an overclocked Celeron 300 Cpu, this is not the safest thing to do, but in some cases you can clock them as high as 400 or even 450)
Polyphony depends on the complexity of the instrument and the samplerate. This means that with one instrument you may get 16 note polyphony at 44.1 MHz but using a very complex instrument you may end up with a monosynth...
Generally it's possible on my system to use say 4 Generator instruments simultaneously, of which 2 are monophonous (a bassline and a lead synth), and the other 2 are 3-part polyphonous (strings&pads).
You'll have to do a lot of experimenting to find out what Generator can do...

Is there a way of playing mp3 audio files at half speed while maintaining the same pitch? This would be invaluable for transcription/analysis of improvised music. I have heard of some hardware based solutions, obviously I would prefer a software solution.

CUBASE LOCKUP! Help!
Cubase VST/24 locks up every time, mid playback. Plenty of ram, not other programs running. what's up wit dat?
