PROGRAM FOR RECORDING FORM A REEL TO PC OR RECORDS.
LP, Cassette and Reel tapes - it is sound and can be capture
Jesse,
If it can be played, then it can be recorded on your hard drive, and edited. I am presuming that you have a Reel tape player and a decent amp.
My suggestion to make archival copies of your previously purchased music, or recordings on cassette, LP, or reel to reel tape player then I would suggest trying LP recorder, and LP Ripper, to accomplish your objectives. http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/LPRecorder/
Ripping CDs to MP3 files, or .WAV format for making archival audio CDs try Cdex 1,40 it is free software.
http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Cdex/
Another good program to have is MP3Decode. It is a fast, high quality, and easy to use decoder to convert all those mp3 files you have collected to WAV? Allowing you to create the WAV files needed to for Audio CD Rs that play on a good number CD players.
http://www.etalonsoft.com/mp3decode.html
A brief summary of how:
1. Capture - You need to get the music from media (LP or Cassette or reel) into your computer - Play one side of the LP, Cassette, (part of a reel- to control file size) capture the entire side as one file? Almost impossible, or the very least you will discover it quite tedious to try and capture one song at a time.
2. Edit - You will want to separate the different song/music selections on the continuous LP/Cassette (Tape Reel) capture. Alternatively, also remove the snaps crackles and pops of an old, worn recording. On the other hand, you may need to improve the poorly shielded sound card input, which may have distorted your recording capture.
3. Filtering - Depending on the quality you want to achieve, how are you going to play your captured music?
Joke – Playing music in a convertible at 60 with the top down, using an audio CD portable player, plugged into your cassette deck, with a $15 converter! Only one level of recording, might not be your cup of tea.
Seriously, everyone’s needs are different, and the quality of audio recording is a function of money and time. You need hardware an amp with RIIA abilities between your turntable maybe tape player and your sound card line in, to level the LP sounds. Short shielded cables, but long enough to remove your turntable, and amp away from your computer, but not to far away to degrade the signal with other electrical interference. See this post:
www.hitsquad.com/smm/wwwboard/messages/108975.html
Cassette Player/recorder normally have adequate built-in amps, for line-input to your computer’s sound card, but spend the extra Radio Shack dollar for shielded RCA jacks.
Then you need capturing software, and editing software. It behooves you to have format conversion software, and of course Burning software if you are going to archive your previously purchased software onto CD R media.
Try the inexpensive CFB software, which is surprisingly good. Then improve your connections, one step at a time, yes including your sound card. Normally with very little time, your audio captured music recording will surpass the quality, of the junk digital recording on the peer to peer download systems that replaced Napster’s music advertising service.

Transferring Vinyl or Cassette to PC Files
I recently received an advert for a program that could create music CDs from PC files containing imported Vinyl or cassette albums. I lost the advert due to a problem with my PC (I'd like to receive it again). However, what I'd like to know is how to transfer the music from vinyl or cassette onto a suitable PC file format (eg *.wav is one I've heard of). As you can probably tell, I'm a novice in the music aspects of PC's. Please help.
Thanks

You need DART KARAOKE software

Immediately to the right of the "Post a Question" box is a section headed "Answers". If you'd taken the time to read through them, you'd have found the answer.

Cubasis Midi Exporting problem....HELP!!
Hiya,
I ve been using different sounds with come with my soundcard as midi format, but the problem is when it comes to export these sounds (trumpet, strings and so on) They all end up as just plain piano?!?!
What am I doing wrong here?
3 possible routes to a solution
I have 3 ideas:
1) Maybe you are confusing MIDI type 1 and type 0 export files.
2) Maybe you are forgetting to select each VST instrument in the Cubasis arrangement window
3) You need to record MIDI program change codes (each one for each instrument)
I think number 3 is the most likely issue.
Poor quality playing MMJB radio
I get lots of bleeps and jumps when listening to MMJB radio stations. I have a 56K dial up and use AOL as my ISP. Any ideas out there as to why it keeps doing this?
Re: Poor quality playing MMJB radio
You probably don't have the necessary bandwidth to hear the stations smoothly. try listening at a time when you'd expect fewer people to be logged in. You might find the quality improves. I know that's the case with my system.

compare media - and write speeds
NO, you can not write at DVD speed without require software or media.
See media, comparison & compare formats
http://www.dvd-magazin.de/TECHNIK/VT/CD_COMP.HTM
Various users of CD R media have luck with different brands or colors. In my experience, it is the same as gasoline brands, and gas mileage. If it works for them, they will use the one they believe is better...
I purchase in bulk, about $18 US dollars per 100. My neighbor purchased black CD R in a case for $60 per 100. Both cheap and black play equally well in our seperate auto installed mp3 players.
DVD media - I know there will be an Jaguar Vs BMW discussion of which is best and in which color!

Jurgen, You have the same problem I have probably. I need MESA 1.23 as well so I can at least test it out on a Win2k box to see if it locates my samplers. I haven't been able to find version 1.23 anywhere and all the links are dead...
Real Player - Windows Media Player
Have RMX files, but want to play them w/Media Player exclusively.
How can I find some tools to convert the RMX files into mp3 files that can be played by Windows Media Player.
Would appreciate your input.
Re: Real Player - Windows Media Player
Believe it or not, it's illegal to do this. Real doesn't want people converting their protected format - RMX. You can use software like Total Recorder to copy the files to WAV and then go to MP3 however.

Good chance it's something to do with XP. If you already hear sounds from the soundcard, there's no reason to think it's your soundcard.

conv sib to midi - tempo changes not correct? ? Suggestions urge
I am creating some files in sib v 2. they play back with all tempo changes correct, however when I convert to midi 2 sections of one song get confused. The 1st at bar 72 should be crotchet=66 but plays at 120 and the second is a repeated section which plays at crotchet=40 for the first time and then corrects itself to crotchet=140 for the repeat. I am urgently trying to get this finished as I am a teacher preparing CD's for students to practice with a performance just over a week away and this is very frustrating. If anyone could help please email urgently. Thank you. Kaye
Help!
I dont know anyting about downloading cds I just know that I have a cd burner. How do I know what kind of system and stuff like that. What is mp3
Re: Help!
You can't download CDs off the net because they are a physical item. But you can download the albums after they've been digitized to MP3.
Here is an article explaining <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/news/9903_109/">what MP3 is</a>.
If you've got a burner, you'll need some decent software to burn your CDs. <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Nero_win32/">Nero</a> is a pretty nifty program.
Just remember that you can't play a CD of MP3s in a standard stereo system.
There is also a pretty good resource over at <a href="http://www.mp3machine.com/">MP3Machine</a> which will probably be of use to you.

Re: Help!
Aahhhhmmm, what are trying to do again? Burn CDs or record songs from CD to MP3? MP3 is simply put an audio format that uses special encoding methods to make it smaller in file size whilst still able to be listened to in reasonable audio quality.
