Re: Music Writing Software

: I have a friend who writes music lyrics and has the tune to the song in her head, however she doesn't know how to write the score. Is there a software that she can sing into the computer and it will write the score for her? I have heard that there is, but don't know anything about this. Please help.

Hi,

I am not familiar with all the software with such capabilities, however there are
software such as Finale 2002, which converts vocals of the mic input
live into notes. There are many other midi2wave and vise versa
convertors which will convert an ALREADY recorded audio file into midi (
thus u r able to see the notation and all). However, none of these
software mentioned are accurate, as they are most likely to produce
somewhat close yet not even close to satisfying results. If you use MIDI however,
you could, but I dont think with VOCALS. U'll need a midi keyboard or something
of that sort. If there's a way to notate vocals using MIDI, then I dont
know about it. These are all the options I know of.

Hope that helps,
Hish

Karaoke Editor

I have a Mac with hundreds of MP3 files. I would like to edit out the vocals from some of these files and save them to use as Karaoke CDs. Does anyone know a program that will work for this?

Recording from cassette with no gaps

I have hundreds of live shows on cassette and would like to convert them to CDs. I am looking for a software package that lets me do the following...

1) Record the entire side of the cassette onto the PC as is (ie unattended recording)
2) "Tag" individual songs within the side but with no (noticeable) space between songs
3) Burn the CD

Optional items would be to balance the sound/tone of the recording either upon record or post record before burning.

Any pointers to a good package that may help me do this?

Thanks, Taylor

audio editor

hey Taylor you'll be after an audio editor for the recording + sound restoration side. Cool Edit is very popular but you could equally use a sequencer like the free one from Quartz Audio which would do an almost identical job. For burning well yer better loading the finished .wav files into a standard burning program. There are free ones about check relevant section of this site. I think cubase does the entire package but u talking $500

Multiple burner software package

Need some help!!! I have been looking for a software package that will allow me to burn to multiple CDR burners. Approx. 8 burners. Is there a software package out there that can do this? Next what kind of flexibility do I have, and what kind of formats can I burn? ie, CDG, VCD, audio, data, MP3 etc..

Gotta help me!!!

Thanx Tony

Re: Multiple burner software package

None of the "affordable" software will burn to more than one burner, simply
because not may people have more than one burner. Who need to do it don't use
software, they use a CD duplicating machine.

4, 5, or 6 channel audio

Anyone know of an audio playback program that will allow at least 4 channel playback of CD audio, etc. that is in 2 channel format? I have a Hercules Theater 5.1 sound card and a Klipsch amp and speaker set (LT Frt, RT Frt, LT Rear, RT Rear, CTR, and SUB.) The VanBasco player will give 4 channel ouput for midi. files. I currently have Windows media player 8 and it only ouputs 2 channel data (as near as I can tell.) My OS is Win98 SE.

Single Track CDA to CDR disk without conversion?

How do I pull a single track from a CD (cda file) to make a CD-R with all my favorites on it? I know I had a program that did this before but lost it in a bad virus. Anyone know what programs can do this?

Re: Single Track CDA to CDR disk without conversion?

totally lost

Please excuse my ignorance, but I'm extremely computer stupid! Anyway, what I'm looking for is something that will let me plug my guitar directly into my computer, have a choice of different amp sounds, program drum tracks to play to, and record mix onto cd. I'm not sure what to look for and not even sure if there's anything available. Please help!

You can't do that...

Sorry, but you can't plug your guitar directly into your computer unless the Audio/Sound card offers a dedicated 'Instrument' input. The two levels aren't matched. I'm not saying you wont get a sound, it just isn't right, at all...

What you need is to line level the guitar. I have used a DI (direct injection) box that will level an intrument input to that of a line level... They aren't that expensive and anyone that is still plugging their guitars into a line level will thank me for the improvement of sound and electrical isolation from guitar to mixer/input...

I recommend an Active DI box but a Passive one will do if the active is past your price range. Make sure it's self powered as some require powering through XLR or similar..

Steve...R

Thanks Steve

Thanks Steve,

I didnt even know that, I've always used my guitar
straight to the computer. Would that reduce the
hiss that comes along with recording at all?

Re: totally lost

Hi, I believe I am the man who can help, since I am a
fellow guitarist/computerist musician. However what u asked
for is not one software but rather a number of them, and it depends on ur
OS, ur budget a lot in order to get what u want with variations in
quality.

1. plug in your guitar

You can alraedy do that, I assume u already know that, u just need a guitar
cable and u can plug the end of it to either the mic in input or
the line in input. Line in input is cleaner.

2. Different amp sounds

This is the difficult part. There are audio plug ins (VST and DX) that can add distortion,
rever, overdrive, wah, etc... to your sounds. These plug ins are not
programs by themselves, they are additions to a program u already have which is a host
multitrack editing software such as cakewalk, sonar, cubase, acid pro, etc...
When it comes to AMP simulation is specific. There are only a handful of attempts.
There's Alien Connections Revalver, which is relatively cheap and u
customize ur stack of amps pretty much customized for the guitar
of course. There's also BeatModel Amplee. These are PC version of it. The best version
however requires that u have a MAC, and ProTools, THEN u can get the amp plug in which is called
AmpFarm. AmpFarm is by far the best! It has amps such as Marshall and Fender, and if u r a guitar
player, I am sure u can appericiate that!

3. Program drum tracks to play to

Ok, there are MANY MANY software that can do that with various
degrees of quality. There are tracking software which u can track
or code drum tracks or non drum tracks (virtually any isntrument there is).
Its free, however its pretty technical. A good example would be
Modplug TRacker. Besides that there are just many small utilities with that function.
I am not familiar with their names, but if u go to www.hitsquad.com/smm and
search under the drum category u should find many. Another good example of a
program that I definetly recomment yet pretty expensive, yet it has unmatchable quality.
This program is called Propellerhead Reason.

4. Record and mix onto CD

That's a whole different story! ;) I am assuming after u got ur composition and arrangment done
u would want to mix and master ur stuff before burning. If you are new, and not good with computers,
my first suggestion would be Sonic Foundry Acid Pro 3.0. Its VERY easy to understand, yet its a very powerful
multitrack editing software (remember the plug ins I told u about earlier 'distortion', etc, u can add those plug ins
to ACID, which will be useful for you. ACID can mix, master, and burn the tracks.
When it comes to RECORDING ur guitar tracks to begin with, I suggest
Cool Edit Pro 1.2 or SoundForge XP. These are the best
audio recorder programs. Through them u can edit the sound, fix it up, enhance it, etc, before taking all the tracks
to ACID for final mix. Other than ACID that do pretty much the same job, there's
CAkewalk, Sonar, Emagic, Quartz, Cubase, ProTools, etc..

Whew...u asked a handful! ;)

Hope that helps,
Hish

Best free mixer for Windows?

Hi everyone,
What's the best FREE software for simple mixing (3-4 tracks) for Windows? Both n-studio and the CoolEdit plugin are demo versions.
Thanks!!!

I NEED A CW9TTSAUD.DLL FILE TO RUN CAKEWALK PLEASE HELP ME !!!!

how can i insert my voice

i want to know if there is any music software which let me to insert my voice, in other word ,to exclude the real singer voice and insert my voice,
best regards,

Re: how can i insert my voice

If you want to add your vocals to a musical piece that is
already vocalless, then u can do that very simply
via hundreds of different software. Cooledit pro, ACID PRo are some
examples.

If you want to add your vocals to a musical piece that ALREADY
has vocals, andu want to remove these, then u simply can't!
There ARE programs that have the function of vocal
removing, but by all means they are FAR from accurate, and its not
the program's author's fault, but its virtually impossible to cut off
the vocal frequencies ONLY without affecting the other tracks/instruments.

UNLESS the file itself is a kareokee file, and u ahe a kareokee software
that plays that file, then it might work. Regular wave and mp3s however
are simply out of the question in terms of vocal removal.

Hope that helps,
Hish

split mp3 file

Sometimes you download a full CD , it comes to you as one big mp3 file. How do one split this file into files for each song ?

Re: split mp3 file

Two ways.

(1) Get an MP3 editor and cut each track out

(2) Convert it to WAV format and do the same thing. Alternatively,
there are programs which will take a WAV file and split it by looking for the
two second gap between tracks (WAVSingulator)

Can you summit or retrieve the comment field with cddb?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew for sure if it was at all possible for someone to grabbed a comment section that was placed into a mp3 from cddb? I think this cat is lying and was just covering up the fact that he renamed a rip of mine. Thanks! Please email (remove spamguard) answer! -Dave

Please help me

I'm looking for a software to upgrade my *.wav files.
So I would like to have a software named ( Vocal remover.exe ) but should be license free.
Thanking you in anticipation

Re: Please help me

Ahmed,

I am not sure what you are asking for?
You want to upgrade your .wave files? In what sense?
If you are considering vocal remover the upgrade
that there is no one ACCURATE REAL vocal remover on
regular wave files. If you look at the top right section
of the www.hitsquad.com/smm/wwwboard page you'll see that
this topic was covered thoroughly. To simplify things,
it is impossible to take out the vocals without affecting
the other tracks and instrument in the song. That does not
mean that such software does not exist. Some are free too,
but they simply dont do the job.

Hope that helps,
Hish

P.S. If you meant something else by upgrading your .wave files
then please clarify so I can help!

ACL used to reduce audience noise

Looking for a way to reduce audience noise without reducing the music. Is it possible?

De-convolution

It depends upon the kind of music and the kind of audience and how you recorded it. You should read about removing vocals at the link at the top of this page; it's a very similar issue. Usually the answer is no.

However, if you play with noise gates and parametric EQ, you can achieve some interesting results on some exception situations.

In general, a noisy recording will remain noisy no matter what you do to it. It's like taking a picture of a big, bushy tree and trying to remove all of the leaves. It's easier just to take a new picture of a big, bushy tree without leaves. (Leaves being like noise, and the tree being like the music).

Overall, you have three approaches:

1) make the music SOUND louder.
2) make the noise SOUND quieter.
3) try some combination of both techniques

many recordings SOUND a particular way, but in reality, the actual recorded waveform is different. By this I mean, lots of noise isn't actually audible. Also, lots of music isn't actually audible. Sometimes you can play with these facts to hide or reveal something.

*4) Another trick of mine is to play around experimentally using delays under 20 milliseconds and with polarity inversion. It can change the flavor of a song without actually changing the gain.

As you experiment with more or less successful techniques, keep copies of your trials, and play around with different amounts of them
mixed together.

Somewhere on the net is a cool program called HOG, which I believe has a denoise function which can do some bizarre statistics on a wave file.

Recycle 2.0 Serial # lost - please help?

I purchased Recycle 2.0, and the card with the serial # slipped out of the packaging. I purchase all of my software, and I have emailed Propellerheads, and given them my UPC code off the box and all, and they refuse to help, so now I must resort to other means....as I refuse to repurchase the software.
Thanks

Email me @ djnashvegas@hotmail.com

Re: Recycle 2.0 Serial # lost - please help?

You could offer to return the entire package, including the CD. Just
giving details off the box proves nothing - you could get that in a shop.
Most software houses will only believe yoou've bought it when they see
the original CD.

Trackmarking software for Mac?

I am a DJ–I record my mixed sets on the HD on my Mac. I use SoundEdit 16 (old but reliable) to do this and end up with on large track. I need to add trackmarks to separate it into individual songs, but with no gaps in between them, leaving it mixed. I am not an audio guru and am new to the recording/producing scene...If anybody out there can help me with an answer I'd greatly appreciate it–Please Email me directly.

studio glass?

anybody know what kind of glass they use in professional studio to separate the mixers boards and things looking on the other side at the vocalist or what is being recorded on the other side.im trying to build a home studio but i want it separated by a wall and a studio glass where i can look in while they record.can anybody help

Also....

The double glazing idea is great although you can build up standing waves in between the glass so it's important to make sure the two pans of glass are tilted and not parallel with each other. A standing wave is a frequency that fits perfectly in size in the distance between the two panes of glass and will be audible. If the glass panes are off parallel, then the waves die out quickly.. A little picture...

I /

If you can imagine that being two panes of glass from side on. It's not much of an extra job for a window fitter..

REAL DRUM'N'BASS PERCUSSION PART - Where can I get it from?

help us guys where can i get a decent drum'n'bass percussion part to use for Orion VST?

DRUM n BASS GENERATORS from Heck!!!!!!

All of these are FREEWARE or shareware with no ads. They run on a PC and require little to no installation. They will not hurt your Registry either.

Download HAMMERHEAD and TUAREG (THE FAT VERSION) and AMEN and the MOONFISH plug-in for TUAREG.

By far, HAMMERHEAD creates the most authentic drum n bass riffs as they originally were made in the early 1990's. It was designed for this style of music, and has very nice drum sounds built in. You can use your own sounds too. Especially if you have the user-bank creator tool that comes with it.

TUAREG is cool for when you need more of a personal touch and panning and layering and live mixing, and creating your own rhythmic edits and beat-mungeing. It can also randomly generate drum n bass riffs.

MOONFISH is the Tuareg plug-in specifically designed for drum n bass. It allows for some especially fancy tricks of rapid editing and effects.

AMEN is fantastic at randomly generating random drum n bass riffs in
a very simple and controlled and understandable manner. The sound files must be mono, but the riffs that Amen can generate with one click are astounding. This one can truly spoil your ears if you let it.

WARNING: After you see these programs in action, you will lose all respect for drum n bass albums because you will know how easy the style is to create. That's what happened to me.

Be sure to check out the DOWNLOAD area at

http://brambos.com/pages/download.htm

to see all of the really cool plug-ins and accessories other nice
people have made for TUAREG to be even MORE powerful. There is a VST tool, string synthesizer, midi, etc. etc.
