Re:I need a mp3 to wav converter...
[The body of this post has been lost]
Looking to buy software to edit existing recorded music
I am a dance teacher, and I frequently have to edit existing music that is recorded on CD. This music is used for yearly dance recitals. I am currently editing the music on a CD/tape recorder/player, and it always comes out really bad. Is there any software availble for a PC using Windows (Powerpoint) that will edit pre-recorded music? If so, what are the system requirements needed? Thanks for your help.
Editing, how?
Hi,
There are many software that enable you to edit pre-recorded music, but it depends on what kind of editing do you have in mind. You'll first need a CD ripper in order to change the format of the songs from CDA to wave or mp3, and from then u can proceed to edit. If by editing you mean slow down the music, change the pitch, cut and rearrange the song that is, then there's Cooledit Pro among many others. If for example by editing you mean removing vocals, then you cant really do that. System requirements really depends on the software. If you have windows 95 or higher, and any kind of a pentium, you should be able to use the majority of the software.
Hope that helps,
Hish

uk trends
there seems to a current trend in taking the music from one track and basically putting another songs vocal directly onto it . no sampling just plain one on top of the other.apart from the copywrite theft ( blah blah blah ) does anyone know what this called ?
music for mac
Hi. What about mac users? Can we download music too... if so, how?? Lynn.
Music?
What do you mean download music? You can download music software (shareware/freeware) from this site.
www.hitsquad.com/smm
Music as in music, then you are in the wrong place. There are tons of places to go from the nasty
www.mp3.com
to the more social
www.iuma.com
There are programs that let you download music from the net but it's used for downloading copywrite bands generally. If that's your thing then go check somewhere like
www.cnet.com
click on downloads from a mac browser and it should take you to the Mac only download area.

Yamaha A3000 and HArd Disk Sizes
Hi All, Here is hoping that someone can help me with this one ...
I have the A3000 version 2.0 with 128 megs of Ram. I decided last week to pick up a hard drive, and I installed it - its a 9.1 gig Seagate. I formatted the thing with 8 partitions (as the version 2 manual suggests) and when it was done (it took the thing 3 hours to format - crazy eh? Did yours take that long?) .. anyway when it was done I ended up with 8 1 gig partitions - fine.
I started moving some samples over and than more samples and I found that when I got to about half way into one of the partitions the A3000 started to screw up, it would sit there trying to save the current sample for 20 minutes, then give an error saying that I was out of HD space.
I guess I need to verify if its the A3000 that can't handle it or if the Hard drive is screwed up, so my question is this - can you save a total of 1 gig of samples on a single partition with the version 2.0 OS - the manual certainly alludes to this, but I would like confirmation from another user so as to confirm it!
Thanks for your time, and I would appreciate the help!

Re: Yamaha A3000 and HArd Disk Sizes
I can't help you with specifics on the A3000 but I will say that the first software OS on the VS880 didn't allow more than 1 gig partitions (I think). The ZIP drive addressing speed is poor too.
The Yamaha EX5r's SCSI addressing of HD's and ZIP drives is more than likely much slower than your Yamaha. If you unlucky, it's about the same.
Check out the link below for some nice synth links for you machine. A good resource.

NO MIDI SOUND USING CUBASE VST
Can n e 1 please help me!! Ive just got cubase vst and when i try 2 play midi files in it there is no sound, also when i play my midi keboard through it there is still no sound and there is a flashing light on the control board 2 show it is recieving. Normal wave files have no problems....I have a soundblaster 5.1 sound card.....Thank you if u can help!!
P.S all midi works fine in other programs....
Re: NO MIDI SOUND USING CUBASE VST
Where are you expecting the sound to come from. Any midi information has to drive a device that actually makes a sound. I am not to offay with Soundcards with internal sounds but I can only suspect that you will have to send the midi tracks to either the internal soundcard sounds OR to your keyboard so it can make the sounds.
NOTE: No sound travels down a Midi cable, only data.

Re: NO MIDI SOUND USING CUBASE VST
sorry to butt in steve hope u don't mind,
Terry you can use yer kboard to trigger VST synths in cubase or samples if u load in a sampler to a channel etc. you can also play the midi sounds on your card from the kboard. If the keyboard has internal sounds you can set a midi track to play the kboard sound but to mix this down you'd need to route an audio cable from kboard to PC + record. It's all very easy remember what Steve said midi is data. You just need to set up Cubase properly so u tell it where to send the midi info to (soundcard/vst synth/sampler etc and where keyboard info goes to when u play it ie cubase midi track for recording)

Converting Mixed CD's to MP3
How can a mixed CD album be converted to MP3.
I have tried various ways and the only solution I can find is to rip them to WAV then join them end to end and then covert the file to MP3.
The problem is that a 74vminute mix album in WAV is huge.
Any Suggestions.
want to input audio to computer into midi format
Hi. I am a part time classical piano teacher who has a legal copy of MusicTime passport software to print scores. I am looking for an economic way of recording pieces of music (mainly piano treble and bass clefs only if possible) audio into my computer to MusicTime in midi format so MusicTime can import it and generate scores for me. I don't have a good ear and find it very time consuming to simplify songs for my students by ear on the piano (takes me days, weeks without much successes). I need the music in midi format but not all music are available on the internet for downloads easily and time-consuming process to search for them if available. I need to be able to input audio which I have easily on CDs or cassettes, may be in .wav form and convert to .mid for MusicTime to generate the scores for me for my students. I know Finale can do it but Finale has too many bells and whistles that I don't need and $275 a copy. I just need hopefully a shareware to do the recording from audio to .wav then run a shareware utility to convert .wav to .mid into MusicTime. Can someone help me ?
It's a long shot...
It doesn't really work although some major software manufacturers have managed to include a facility in their apps... The only success I have had from trying it is with slow monophonic instruments. Midi music files are people playing the instruments as midi instruments tracks and then saving those...

mono vs stero
I am taking music of tapes and making CD. I am using musicmatch. It was working OK until I reloaded my machine. Now I can play tapes and sound comes out of both speakers. When I burn my CD however, and play it on a CD player it only comes out of one speaker. When I play the CD from my burner it comes out of both computer speakers. Could it be a computer setting that is not right? Any suggestions?
mixer?
Greetings. I'm looking to put together a home studio setup - I'll be recording with guitar, bass, drum machine, and possibly some keyboard. I'll probably be using sonar.
Since all my recording is going to be direct (IE: no microphones, so no feedback) I'd like to hear all the previously recorded tracks out of my speakers, as opposed to having to wear headphones... I realize I can do this with an external mixer (IE: 2x8 mixer), but is getting some sort of multi-input sound card a better way to go? Any suggestions for model, price, etc, etc?
Thanks in advance...
Re: mixer?
The general drill is to listen to what has gone to tape but on a computer system, this means being able to monitor (with very low latency) what has gone to tape (okay to HD). This is a function that is generally offered by a Midi/Audio sequencer (software) although you will need to monitor from the audio output of the card. In this way, you can add effects to the mix that you can hear whilst your all playing...
In a large studio with a bohemeth mixing desk, you would plug all the intruments into the desk and then they would be assigned to their own tracks on the multitrack. The output of those tracks would be run back to the desk where you could send them out on headphone mixes to the musicians via 'Auxillary Sends".
What you can do is run all the instruments into a desk and then send a little of each out the Auxillaries on the desk and send that to the amplifier for monitoring. This will eliminate latency on bad computer DAW's. The tracks themselves could be assigned to 'Group' outputs on the desk and then to a multi channel input Audio Card on the computer. If you ever see an in line mixing desk quoted as 18/8/2 or 96/24/2 then all this means is that the first number (18 lets say) is the physical amount of inputs to the desk, in line usually. The second number is the amount of Group Outputs which is very relevant to you as you would need to send each instrument to it's own input on the computer. The third number refers to the master outputs.
This 18/8/2 desks group outputs can be assigned to from the 18 input tracks (depending on the desk) and come in the form of a little button above the fader. If I pressed 4, then it would be sent out of group output 4... Simple...!

Re: mixer? Sonar?
Thanks Steve. Perhaps my problem is specific to Sonar - when I'm recording it seems to automagically switch the output from speaker out to the headphone out... any ideas?
I'm moderately familiar with mixers & analog recording. I was wondering if people generally preferred an outboard mixer or some kind of higher end sound card with some sort of software mixer (do these things exist?)
Re: mixer? Sonar?
That would depend on what you are doing and who you are. I prefer an external mixer although I use a software one more often than the external one. Kind of a necessary item for me. You can control a software mixer via midi messages or MMC (midi machine code).
I can't comment on the Sonar problem though although it sounds like one of those preferences things. I suspect they are trying to assume that you would want to only listen to the monitors when your not recording. Maybe they have selected it by default that when record is pressed, as the headphones are considered the safest monitors (due to possible live mics in the studio) and changed the output automatically. Can't imagine they don't let you change that though.. Only a guess..

logic help...audiowerk8 system overload -10011
hello i get aerror in logic. audiowork system overload -10011 the audio engine was not able to proces all required data in time.
i am on a g3 450, with a gig of ram.
this is only happening when i am recording threw the audiowerk8 card in Logic 4.81
what can i do to fix this?
Re: logic help...audiowerk8 system overload -10011
How many tracks and effects are you using at the time??? How many effects are you using??
The best thing to do is get the CPU performance window up and run the track to see if the computer/HD is struggling with the amount of tracks and effects... Check the hardware and drivers window and check that you have the Audiowerk selected.
If you are running hardly any tracks then I would recommend locatiing "Logic Preferences" (use Sherlock on the system folder HD) and delete it.. Check you have the latest drivers for the Audiowerk.. I doubt that the ones that come in the box are remotely up to date.. Get back to me if you need some more help

Take noise out of tape with SoNar!!!!
Hey does anyone know an audio effect/method that will take the noise out of a tape with Sonar????
Cubasis
I've got a copy of Cubase 3.11. Executed some of my own (classical)compostions. Did'nt see possibilities of sound tricks like echo, reverberation, asdr etc. Maybe because I've got no documentation (help) files with it. What do you advise me? Where can I download free manuals, or another version of Cubase (or other)?

Music Writing Software
I have a friend who writes music lyrics and has the tune to the song in her head, however she doesn't know how to write the score. Is there a software that she can sing into the computer and it will write the score for her? I have heard that there is, but don't know anything about this. Please help.
