Re: napsterdown loading

You don't really give enough information for anyone to go on!! We are not psychic!

To listen to music on PC you need a player. Now Napster has one built in under'Library' OK? Now try to play your downloaded songs from here OK?
Or u could download a mp3 player like 'Winamp' for free.

You also need a 'soundcard' - got one? If u hear any sounds form speakers then u have one. Open up Settings>ControlPannels>MultiMedia - then select an 'output' port then click on the 'playback' icon and ensure your volume settings are unmuted and at max. OK?

Maybe this all OK and u just have prnlem with Napster?? See I don't know! If songs are downloading then get another mp3 player and try them in that.

Sorry Alf!

er, format X is whatever, as in not a specified format - I just wanted to know if it is possible to encode audio to LA - i found a russian website with a hacked encoder, but my russian aint so hot - init

Cubasis VST bundle with Soundblaster-disabled instruments?i

I have just installed the Soundblaster Live! Platinum soundcard in my pc. One of the reasons I bought it was that it came bundled with Cubasis VST. However, it appears to have VST instruments and fx disabled! Is there any way that I can copy the Cubase 5 VST's instruments and fx accross? If not, why is it called VST if it has no bloody VST functions?

Re: Cubasis VST bundle with Soundblaster-disabled instruments?i

try down loading the demo version, search for cubasis vst demo. Down load it, then copy the dll. files into your purchased cubasis vst plygins folder. Don't stop there! there are tonnes of vst effects on the net for free downloads: ie. vst compressors, limiters, distortion, etc. simply copy those vst dll. files into your vst plugins folder.

post your results.

Re: Cubasis VST bundle with Soundblaster-disabled instruments?i

Lee,

If you haven't fixed this yet, reply to this email. I had the same problem and fixed it. I can now play VST instruments in Cusbasis.

Let me know and I'll forward the appropriate files and instructions.

Cheers, Dean

Re: Cubasis Enquiry

Hello Dean, Im having the same problem that Dean had and don't know how to use VST instruments and effects with Cubasis VST 3.7 bundled with the Sound Blaster Platinum Live! soundcard. Could you please tell me how to fix that?

I also have version 5.1 of Cubasis VST, and I can't set the Midi output to be the soundblaster sinth rather than the interface MIDI out. So I can't actually hear any MIDI files playing with this version! Do you know why?

Thank you very much

Vasken

Re: Cubasis VST bundle with Soundblaster-disabled instruments?i

Thats right, they are disabled..... hehe you haveto turn then on :)
Easyest way is to select a track you've recorded
then in one of the upper menu's you can add an effect.

where I can find an RMX to MP3 converter?

SoundBlasters and Cubase vst 3.6

I have 2 different pc's that have the same problem....the audio on the sound cards can not be opened when Cubase starts up. Exactly the same problem with two completely different machines running win98. one has a SB AWE64 value and the other a SB PCI 128, both full duplex cards and no other programs running on the machine at all. I have sucessfully run my version of cubase on other machines. Could you please help me with this as it means cubase is midi only for me and my studio is useless.

Program to pick out specific tracks from audio CD's?

I'm trying to find out if there are any reasonably priced programs that allow you to extract specific tracks from a CD (a voice track, drum beat, or lead guitar for example), and rearrange them in addition to other audio sources (wave files, MIDI, etc.). Is this even possible? If so, what is the last expensive program that does a decent job with this? I've been trying to find such a program, but as I'm not familiar with most of the techno-jargon associated with this stuff, its rather confusing. Thanks in advance to anyone who could help me out. late

no way!

It's just not possible Rob! There ARE only two tracks on a CD - the left and right channels. All the instruments are mixed to two channels in the studio and after this process the sound signals are inseperable Im afraid. If u got your hands on the master tapes u would have no problems!

Midi tracks often are saved in multi track formatt which means you would be able to separate them in a midi sequencer. You can find millions of versions of 'pro songs' on the web.

Re: no way!

So then how can there be a PC program that supposedly takes the lead vocal track out to make a karaoke version of a song, and why do home stereo recievers play effects and certain parts on the rear channels that exclude other aspects of the music being played on both right and left channels? Just wondering.

It's simple to remember...

There are many so called 'Karaoke' programs across the platforms that badly attempt to remove the main vocal by phasing out the centre of the mix where the vocals usually reside. There is no physical way to completely remove "anything" from a mono/stereo mix as steve says, due to the fact that you are dealing with a 2 track mix. If you want to split it up then you will always end up with, err... 2 tracks.

I think you comment on home receivers was probably to do with Home Cinema Dolby decoders. If this is the case then, Dolby Pro Logic, Digital etc is broadcast I think in five channels. Main stereo front speakers, rears and then a centre usually used for vocals. The five tracks are seperate when they reach your receiver, where a CD is 2 tracks when it reaches you. I wish CD where 48 seperate tracks sometimes, it would give some good options to remix some old trash into something listenable...!

SteveR...

Re: It's simple to remember...

well what I really meant was theater mode on a nice receiver listening to a regular two track CD.
on newer music, the little sound effects in the background will play by themselves on the rear channels (try Beck's newer CD Midnite Vultures to see what I mean). But it doesn't really matter anyway. i'm out.

another happy customer!

If your still there Rob I'm sorry this remix thing is not possible for u. I think an answer to the Beck thing is that he is a genius and knows how to do things other people just dream about??? Seriously though I think this 'theatre' mode is the answer. It will manipulate the song to make some sounds seem to come from a different place - as if they are bouncing off the back of a theatre wall perhaps? It creates the illusion of a four track source where there is infact only two.

moonflower

has anyone come across the song Moonflower by Santana from the CD Moonflower for Guitar Pro, or is anyone interested in tabbing it?

Cakewalk Home Studio/Scott Garrigus

Mny/tks for your reply. Co-incidence is that I have asked local libr. to borrow Cakewalk Power for me. I bought a copy of Cakewalk H/S but think I was misled by
by a book "Music on your PC" which said it would run on
Wind. 3.2 and a 486. Although up the creek I will battle on. Many thanks again. JE.

Looping in Cubase, Please!

Can someone tell me how to loop a simple file in cubase, please.

Re: Looping in Cubase, Please!

as in any sequencer there will be a 'loop' button on the transport bar (near the play button) which when depressed will loop playback between the two small arrows or markers often found at the top of the first track spread. You can move these markers with the mouse arrow possibly utilising a right click for the right hand side marker

.WAV to MP3

I need a way to convert .wav files to MP3 format...any ideas?...once agian....WAV to MP3...not MP3 to .wav
thanks

Re: .WAV to MP3

You need an <a href="/smm/win95/FORMAT_CONVERTERS/">ENCODER</a> like RightClick-MP3, BladeEnc or MPAction Rip'n'Coder.

Hyundai has a program called Jukebox manager that strips the graphic file off the wav - then converts it to mp3. then marrys the mp3 to the graphic file.

Using midi in a live gig - alternatives to static sequencing

I have an Ensonique KS -32, playing in the live circuit with an electronic project, I need alternative sound storage, sequence storage and realtime midi tempo masters. i.e - midi triggers that can be determined in realtime by a drummer.

I've looked at the Ensonique hardware and the capacities are inadequate. I require robust and reliable hardware.

Cheers

Try Alternate Mode's DrumKat,which has assignable
tap tempo.See www.alternatemode.com
As far as sequencing storage, probably get a
used laptop with as much hard drive space
as possible. As far as sound storage for the
KS-32, if you mean sysex patch storage, then
the laptop would be ideal as well. You will
need some sort of MIDI interface for the laptop.
See if you can use the one that connects to the
soundcard's gameport(It's around $20)
Good Luck

Burning a mixed stereo track

Hello,

I am a DJ for a non-profit dance event and I am VERY excited about using my computer to mix music as well as burning my mixes on CD with my HP 9110i.

I have used a ripper to extract songs into wav files on my hard drive. Then I have used Cakewalk 9 (a powerful MIDI and audio software for musician) to mix the songs and finally use the MIXDOWN feature to save all the mixed song into one LONG stereo track (WAV).

Now, my problem is that I want to burn my mix to CD but I REALLY need to find a way a to mark where is song 1, 2, etc... on my long mixed track. The reason is that when I will play the CD, I NEED be able to skip to any songs of my mix.

I know it is possible because there are many cds on the market with mixed tracks AND cues to jump to any track.

The real question are:

Do you know how I can do this on my system?
Which piece of software would allow me to do this?
If you don't know how to do this, can you point to other sources that may be helpful?

Desperately hoping for an answer (as I have a big dance event in two days).

THANK YOU!!

Re: Burning a mixed stereo track

So you should split that LONG .wav file into the number and size of each track that you want. Make sure you dont go losing any micro second pieces though.
Then burn your CD using the DAO (Disk-At-Once) method, as this will burn the separate tracks without the usual silence
in between each track.

These CD Burners support DAO -

<a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/FireBurner/">FireBurner</a> - Shareware

<a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Nero_win32/">Nero</a> - Demo

<a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/CDRWIN/">CDRWin</a> - Demo

Best of luck to you.

I have just brought a new comp fitted with the wami rack sound card and running cubase 5. I have also brought the Yamaha CS2X.I can record one track of midi fine but when I try to record another track with a different sound it changes the first tracks sound as well.
