I know it's not the same but...
You could try in the mean time, the VST pluggin Theramin for Mac OS and Windows. It's free but you will have to have a VST pluggin compatible host.
Check it out.

CELERON is very good at dealing with floating point
calculations which is often important if you're going
to do a lot of audio processing.

SOUNDBLASTER LIVE RECORD MIKE, MIDI
I am using the SoundBlaster Live on a windows 98 computer, and have a Yamaha PSR-230 keyboard attached.
Before upgrading to LiveWare of SBLive, I would record MIDI and microphone by bringing up TWO mixer control applets. One in the Play mode, and the other in the Record mode.
With the upgrade, only ONE Surround-Mixer seems to be allowed to run. I run the Creative-WAVE Studio as before. At WAVE Studio, I push the red RECORD button and get message "The specified audio device is already in use" and no recording can take place.
At the Creative "help" site, I read that the Mixer applet has a RECORD control mode and a PLAY control mode. However, I am in the dark as to how to flip from one such mode to the other.
The new Suround Mixer applet shows a RECORD volume level on the left, and I can find a "WHAT-U-HEAR" icon above it.
I have not been able to obtain good tech help from SBLive, and would much appreciate starting help so I can record my harmonica on the microphone along with some MIDI files, as before.
Thanks.

I gave an answer to a question virtually identical to yours, two messages below your own. It is worth checking down the list as common questions like this are asked on a daily basis.

Macster won't work
I have tried to get on macster numerous times since i downloaded the new update and when i do it connects normally then disconnects in less then a seccond. I don't know whats wrong please send me some usefull info on how to fix my problem.
Thanks,
Ashley
Try this...
I've had similar problems to you. I suspect it's something to do with how busy the servers are, especially at the weekend. To be honest, I have switched over to Rapster, which uses your exeisting account information (just type it in) and seems to give more options than Macster... I do find though that the 'find best server' option doesn't work quickly any more and I usually list the servers and loggon individually, you'll understand when you give it a try...

turning cassettes into cd's
Just wondering if someone knows, step-by-step, how to record the cassette in the computer and turn it into a cd with the just burn or sonic burner program. Am new to the computer thing so it has to be put quite simply for me to get it.
Re: turning cassettes into cd's
You must check the audio input on your computer and determine what input connector it has. It will more than likely have a little stereo Minijack (walkman head phone size). You will need to establish what the audio outputs on your cassette player are. They are more than likely two mono Phono (RCA) connectors. Make the lead or get it from somewhere like Tandys (radioshack). Explain to them what you want to do and tell them what connectors you have on both devices, buy it and plug them together.
The next bit depends on what computer platform you have. I can only vouch for the Mac fraternity i'm afraid but the idea is the same. You need to obtain a program to record the input of the computer and save it as a .WAV file (.AIF mac but it doesn't matter anyway). This website has a ton of programs for that purpose check the link at the bottom of the page and have a browse in something like audio recorders. The descriptions of the app's are short but clear...
Once you have the .Wav/.Aif's then your CD burning software should be able to burn those as an audio CD. I don't know you program i'm afraid but the all seem pretty obvious to me.
Good luck

There are different ways to save different types
of streaming audio but one universal way is to buy
Total Recorder which will let you copy just about
any streaming audio to disk as a .WAV file - then
your CD Burning software will burn it to CD for you.
Total Recorder is only $11.95 for the full version.
cda conversion
Is there a way to convert cda files to mp3 files?
Re: cda conversion
You can try "AltoMP3 Maker" which does this job very well.
You can find it at http://www.yuansoft.com

help with digitalizing voice recordings
Hi,
I am looking for some advice on how to deal with cassette recordings of voice. I'm an anthropologist, and as part of my work, I analyze extemporaneous conversations between indigenous and non-indigenous people in Guatemala. I now would like to be able to (1) store copies of my conversations in a digital format and (2) work on these files on my computer.
Presently for storage, I have a cable that I connect from my tape recorder to my computer and then I use Recordit to convert the sound into MP2 files. I thought MP2 files would be best because they take up less space. I need the file to be small as I am going to e-mail them home for storage, and the telephone lines in Guatemala are so poor and slow, that it's difficult to have long periods where I can send data.
In terms of working with my data, I need to be able to make transcripts. This involves playing back small segments over and over and over. I basically just need to be able to understand words, and time pauses between speakers and overlap of speech. Ideally, I am looking for software that allows you to easily back up 1 second or 2 second intervals several times, that measures time in milliseconds, and that allows you to slow down and speed up the speech as much or as little as you need (preferably giving you more choices than just "reduce speed by 25%").
Finally, I have a program that I would like to use that allows me to type in my transcripts, click the line and hear the audio of what I have written. It only seems to work with WAV files.
So, it seems to me that the best thing to do is to create digital files in WAV, convert the WAV to MP2, send the MP2 home and archive it, and then work with the WAV files on site.
Questions:
(1) Is this a good idea? Does anyone have any better suggestions?
(2) How do I convert WAV to MP2? Can I convert MP2 to WAV?
(3) What is the best software to use to transfer the analog speech into the digital format?
(4) What is the best digital format to use for my purposes?
(5) What program should I use to listen to the speech that will allow me to manipulate it in the ways that I need?
If it helps, I'm on windows use windows 98 and have a laptop with 166 processor and 63 mg ram.
Thanks,
Nicole
Re: help with digitalizing voice recordings
: Questions:
: (1) Is this a good idea? Does anyone have any better suggestions?
I would recomend either Sound Forge XP or Cool Edit 2000
as both of these programs are easy to learn and they can
do some pretty neat stuff with time stretching which alows
you to slow down the audio without changing the pitch.
: (2) How do I convert WAV to MP2? Can I convert MP2 to WAV?
You shouldn't bother with MP2 anymore as MP3 is a
better format - both programs I mentioned above can
work with MP3 files.
: (3) What is the best software to use to transfer the analog speech into the digital format?
Both the programs above can do this and also both have
facilities for reducing tape noise.
: (4) What is the best digital format to use for my purposes?
WAV files are the best for editing because all decent
editors will work with it. MP3 is the best for transmission
over the Internet. Although I know Cool Edit can actually
edit MP3 directly but I'm not sure about Sound Forge.
: (5) What program should I use to listen to the speech that will allow me to manipulate it in the ways that I need?
Either of the two programs above will work fine.
: Thanks,
: Nicole
Good Luck!
Jason...
Turn up here more often Jason. You answers are clear and informative and you could take some of the weight of me in the absence of most of the known regulars for answering the same old questions again and again!
I sometimes feel that I do this for a living, but everyones gone home and i've had to work late.
take care
Steve...
Nice job...
Hey, fancy swapping jobs? any way, now for some extemporaneous typing...
Sounds like you have the connection from your tape machine to your computer sown up. I'm sure you could consider a portable DAT or MiniDisk machine at some point as they usually come with a digital output, you should be able to get a digital compatible input to your laptop from somewhere, just planting a seed..!
If I were you, I would consider a Audio editing package that will not only allow you to record from the computers input, but will provide you with some outstanding editing capabilities. You mention 'small segments' for playback. This would all be possible as you would be able to cut and paste selected areas of the recorded material and save and name them individually. The possibilities are endless. Most editors provide facilites like Eq and time stretching so you would be able to slow down a portion of the material without changing the pitch, (great for learning fast guitar solos, <ahem>).
Questions:
(1) Is this a good idea? Does anyone have any better suggestions?
The editor will work
(2) How do I convert WAV to MP2? Can I convert MP2 to WAV?
You should be using MP3 by now.
(3) What is the best software to use to transfer the analog speech into the digital format?
The audio editor will do this and is as good as any.
(4) What is the best digital format to use for my purposes?
MP3, it's small and the quality suffers little
(5) What program should I use to listen to the speech that will allow me to manipulate it in the
ways that I need?
I'm a Mac person and know little about the windows world. I have used SoundForge (Windows) which is excellent apparently.
Your in luck as well because this site has a demo of some excellent audio programs. Below is a link to the main file menu. Try the "Audio editors" page, then "MP3" page for the encoders, then "Format Converters" to convert from MP3 to Wave and the other way around.
Good luck

Help!!
Can't get cubase vst 3.7 to run on my HP laptop.

Re: cubase/laptop
Check the specs of your laptop to the min specs of Cubase
It maybe worth while to format your laptop then install cubase, that way should run into less problems

First off...
First off, I'd like to thank Deceptikon's mother for letting him stay up so late, however, the little tikes got all hot under the collar, nothing that a nice warm cut of coco and a nice paper airplace mobile wont sort out I suspect.
Secondly, would anyone like to take bets on what Deceptikon is going to be when I grows up? I suspect he may be fireman or a fisherman or maybe an airline pilot. I bet the little thing is so full of ideas he probably doesn't know himself, ahhh...
Go to sleep sweet Deceptikon, night night dear...

p.s. quick note to mum, keep him off the ribena... it does something strange to their mood swings. Wrap him up warm now!

Actually we have a whole area on this site dedicated
to Audio Restoration software which does exactly
what you want.
Have a browse around and download any of the programs
you're interested in to try them out - you might like
to try a couple of programs as some seem to work better
than others depending upon the type of noise problems
you have.
