Read on to find out how you get your free CD(s) of
Britain's best underground band!

tRANSELEMENt are a difficult band to describe. After 8
years together (they formed when they were only 14!)
they have developed a unique sound which somehow
combines all the best bits of psychedelia,
electronica, punk, dub and melodic pop (to
name a few). Their 2 John Peel sessions were highly
acclaimed (Peel himself described them as
'Magnificent') and their 2 home- recorded albums, Sour
Blaster and Ouaqui Paetes, blew away critics who
struggled to describe or compare them.

On the 22nd of February 2002 tE played at
The Bivouac in Lincoln and their performance was
recorded onto a Hi-8 digital multitrack recorder
before being mixed down to CD; this is one of the CDs
that we are offering to you for FREE! The 8 tracks
come in at just under 40 minutes and the sound
quality, as well as the bands performance, is superb.
It has cover art too!

This is being freely distributed along with the (also
free!) tRANSELEMENt Video CD 'From The Video Incubator
Phenomenon' which features live footage, promo vids,
stupid stuff and footage of them playing live on John
Peel. This VCD will play on most DVD players as well
as ALL computers with a CD-ROM/ DVD drive.

All you have to do to get a copy of one (or both) of
the CDs is send a BLANK e-mail with JUST YOUR HOME

Brief History

Began in 1994 in Pendle, Lancashire

Released their first 7" single 'Lord Aparts' on Creeping Bent Records in 2000. Followed by their debut album 'Sourblaster'

2 Peel Sessions for BBC Radio 1 in 2001

2 BBC CHOICE appearances in 2001 on 'The Beatroom'

Released 'Ouaqui Paetes' album on MP3.com, now unavailable.

Released their third CD album 'Pendletones' on Soviet Union Records in 2002. Well received by NME = 8/10

The fourth album, '8 Songs about Travel' released 2003 on Eli Records

Currently finishing their FIFTH studio album for 2004 '(_____) is Missing'

newbie Mac MIDI questions

Can anybody point me to a website that might have some up-to-date information for "newbies" getting started with MIDI music on a **MACINTOSH** ???

Too many variables, too much technolological changes happening too fast, and not enough CLEARLY presented "broad brushstrokes" information to get me going....

I'm getting nothing but bafflegab from the various music-store sales people I've tried to talk to.... All they want to do is SELL stuff, without any regard for whether it will actually WORK properly with my existing equipment (Mac G4 450mhz Cube) or if it's "appropriate" to somebody who wants to have something "fairly basic" (without painting myself into a corner, by being TOO simplified!)

---I'm unsure if a plain MIDI "controller" keyboard is the way to go, or if "hardware modules" (???) or a dedicated Synth-keyboard are best..... and have totally insufficient clear information/understanding on how to make an "informed" purchase decision either way.

One factor I've already tripped over is the HORRIBLE state of most documentation (poorly translated from technical japanese) that comes with many synth-keyboards.... Hence the need for some "overview" documentation on how all this junk is SUPPOSED to fit together....

My budget for all of this (software, hardware, USB (?) MIDI interface, and sound-modules or sound-synth software) is circa $500 USA (I'm in Canada, so that's about $800. Cdn..)

My particular interest is in being able to put on the headphones, sit at my computer with a musical keyboard plugged in, and play PIPE_ORGAN music---along with a certain amount of "weird" Sci-Fi sound effects.... but mostly classical J.S. Bach...

Please advise! !! :-)

You should check out books from your local library. Also, college libraries are great, even if you're not a student there. Just go in and look at the books and leave them there when you go. good luck.

By the way, sometimes you can buy used organs for about 30 dollars to 100 dollars in the US.

Burning CDs

I'm trying to burn 150 CDs for my wedding. It seems everyone of them that I burned so far has a "clicking" noise in one or more of the tracks - but never the same track on all CDs and the original is fine. What am I doing wrong?

I would suggest burning the songs at a slower speed of possible and seeing if that helps.

Is your CD Burner very old? It might be faulty or the software your using with it may not be the correct one for that particular brand. Of course try burning at a slower speed also, that could do the trick.

if you're using a laptop, you're going to have to get an external usb compatible burner. if your plan is to download music from the net and put it to cdr, then really read speed/write speed need not be an issue. It's up to you how much to spend, but you can get an external cd burner that will do what you want for around $100. For software, the burner should come with it's own, but if it doesn't, Nero's burning rom software will do the job.

protools with roland vs1680

Sure do!! If you are using only the optical output not the S/PDIF then just run your optical cable to the ADAT Optical INPUT, on the PCI card installed in your computer. Make sure it's the Input (If you see light from the card, its output!).. The trick here is that, the stereo optical signal is actually input through Analog inputs 3/4. Select Analog input 3 (left), 4 (Right), and you should have signal.

P.S. On your 1680, make sure that in the MASTER OUPUT section, you have DOUT2 set for MST or MON ouput.

What settings do you mean?? MTC is Midi Time Code and you will need to sync both the computer and the VS using MTC. This involves sending MTC from ProTools and then having the VS in MTC Slave mode with the correct FPS settings (the same on both machines)..

Help me! Midi instrument (using soundfonts) in cubase VST/32

My problem seems to be farely simpel. I've got cubase VST/32 and I´ve got a soundblaster AWE soundcard with a GS bank as my midi sounds. But I just can't find anywhere to change the MIDI instrument. Therefor I can only use the first instrument in the instrument list and one more. So my question is, could anyone please tell me how to set other instruments for the different channels in cubase VST/32.

first make sure your midi in is set to your awe midi in and midi out is set to creative s/w synth in the midi system setup window.
then choose a midi track and show the extra track options window on teh top left of your screeen.
(little button with a triangle on it)
Use right mouse on output.choose your midi bank.
now use right mouse on patchname and choose your instrument! have fun...By the way..how can I switch the octaves of midi-in in cubase?

You are ripping CD and burning them as wave files, using the CD player in your car as the standard playback device? Mike does this CD play differently in your computer or other CD players? Sometimes it is the age of the player, the burn speed, and the quality of the media used for your recordings. Your CD player in the car might play originals CD fine, except for the latest releases with copy-protection.

If your burned CD have the same error in another player, then it is your burning speed or media. If they play good in the neighbor’s portable player then it might be time to have your car unit cleaned, or replaced. If replacing the unit in the car always upgrade to a MP3 unit. Then you can use one CD for MP3s, holding all the music you like this week and burn another mix later in the week as your taste changes.

Quality, and better Quality is a function of money spent to accomplish a task, remember I have a tin ear, but wanted better quality than the downloads available on line. To accomplish that task, I purchased many CDs and still scour the used music stores for CDs and LP adding to my collection of music. I spend the time, to rip or record at a quality that my billfold can afford. For the moment, I am happy with the sound quality I have achieved, but know that quality could improve if I acquired better equipment.
