Recording Analogue audio onto Hard drive
Does anyone know of a way that I can record the analogue output from my Mixer (2 x Technics 1210s decks through a mixer).
Real time HD recording? - I can use the sh*&ty sound recorder in windows - so there has to be some decent software out there. If this software could go through a DSP first it would be even better.

Recording onto a hard drive is very easy - have a look in the
software section under Audio Recording. As for the DSP bit,
you'll be lucky to find something that does it on the fly,
most will only do it after the sound has been recorded.
As a starter, have a look at the Cool Edit range.

Voice
Hey,
I play guitar, and i really really really want to be able to sing and play, but my voice really isnt that good at all, is it possible to actually improve it, or is it if your voice isnt good you just have no chance?
if it is possible coould you tell me what would help?, and a rough range of how long it could take?

In a word, no. The biggest problem is the environment. Just sitting
in a room singing is a non-starter - the accoustics are terrible, and
there's always something in the background (traffic etc.), hence the
proper music studio - properly soundproofed, accoustically correct.
To coin an old phrase - garbage in, garbage out.

I want a program for my laptop...which has windows Millenium....that will let me record music off of CD's onto blank CD's and be able to play them on Sterio systems? what do i need?

As long as your laptop has a CD-RW drive, then there is no
problem. A program like CDex will allow you to extract files
off a CD onto your hard drive in WAV format. You'll then need
something like Easy CD Creator or Nero to burn which ever WAV
files you want. If you look in the software section, you'll
find other similar programs that will do the same job.
Just be aware that unless your stereo is
fairly new, it may not be able to read CD-R discs.

U Want to convert CD+G to a VCD? ... Here's how...
If you have ripped and converted a DVD to a VCD, it is now possible to convert the CDG (just the graphics) to an AVI. Get the shareware here:

After conversion, you have to recompile the video with the audio:

Then burn with a suitable program, either Nero with the proper plugin, adaptec, Disk Juggler, ect.
It takes a while to recombine the file, but it really does work :)
Cubase Recording Dropout
When feeding MIDI from Cubase MIDI tracks into my synthesizer and trying to record the synthesizer output back onto an audio track in Cubase, I get constant pops and audio dropouts in the recording. I've changed buffer sizes, sync settings, everything. Nothing corrects the problem.
I do not have this problem when recording audio (wav files) straight into Cubase from any other source.
Is there just too much conflict between trying to send MIDI out and recording audio in at the same time?

changing wma. files bitrate, is it possible?
I convert most of my mp3's to wma. I am told the wma format is much smaller, but many of the wma. files end up with too low of a bitrate for my mp3 player to play. Can i change the bitrate?

Dear sir,
firstable I thank you for your great site, I want to ask about mp3 encoding
We encode wav to mp3 by AudioActive studio, but the problem that we face now is that some people download the mp3 songs and upload it to their sites, as if they were the publisher.
Is there a way to add the songs information to the same files while encoding it, ot after that, like in the RAM files in the Real PLayer, they add the publisher which are shown while you are listen to the song.. please help me.

You could use what's called a MP3 Tag Editor, which allows you to add info such as track title, album, artist, music genre and so forth to an MP3. Go to www.analogx.com and check out Tagmaster.

hi jack,
wow something not to say on a plane these days. i used MCP and it's great. After install Direct X it crashed my PC + refused to play back a note without blue screening. If u have DX8 try dumping it. You can reinstall windows98 from CD to do this if u have upgraded. If u on later OS try lookibng around to see if u can uninstall DX8 for 7.1

HELP! Just purchased a CD burner/software
Hello!
I purchased my first computer from a local computer guy and just before Christmas. I askedhim to upgrade my computer to run more faster and with RAM. So I went with 40 gths htyes, 1200 mgh, 256 ram, new video, new audio, and new modem for $490.00. I also purchased a CD burner-24 spd cd burner for $85.00. I have been trying to burner a cd and have been unsuccessful. The funny thing is that there is only one ROM on the tower. This maybe a stupid question but is there suppose to be two?? I have the NERO 5.5 software version with the Nero Burner room, Nero Toolkit, Nero Editor, and Nero Designer. I think this is all software and I do not have the actual burner. Please advise!
I would appreceiated a quick response so I can call the guy back if he cheated me. Thank you!

It sounds as if you've got just a CD rewriter in place of the normal CD-ROM. That's nothing to worry about. Nero IS a CD burning program. The best bet is to take it back and ask the guy to demonstrate the software. Diagnosing software problems like this is difficult because it's often only obvious when you see it.

Andy: Thank you for your advise! I called the guy I purchased my computer and explained my problems. I first tried to walk me through the steps and when it went to burn. A message cam up that said D: was not ready. So he tried other things and we finally came to the conclusion that... I had the Nero CD Burner and the wrong software. There are two versions that he uses 12 or 15. I have the version 15 burner and on the computer had 15 version. So I just reinstalled the new he gave me and it worked!

First, use StreamBox Ripper to convert real audio to wave files.
Then, use the software that comes with your CDBurner to burn the wave files into audio CD.

It's not down to just a single piece of kit. There are lots of things that affect the final quality of a singer's voice - the accoustics of the studio (very important), the microphone (not a cheap one), compressors, filters, graphic equalizers - all can be used to modify the sound of the voice.

Burning a continuous mix!
If I've downloaded a trance mix and then use mp3 trackmaker to seperate it ot tracks, and then want to burn a cd, but want it in a continuous mix, and still want to select my track no., what shuld I do!?
ie. When buy a continuous mix cd, we can select a particular track, I wnat to do that with my downloaded version.

Some Cd burning programs, such as Easy CD Creator, allow you to burn tracks onto a CD without switching the laser off inbetween, removing the usual two second gap between tracks. I haven't used it myself but it sounds like this is what you're trying to do.

Burning an audio cd
I am trying to make a sound quessing cd for my little 2 year old class. I have downloaded some wav, mp3 and mpeg format sounds of things like animal sounds, doors closing and the like. The cd burner I have will only recognize mp3 format. It distorts the wav files and refuses the format altogether of the mpegs. Unfortunately, most of the sounds the little ones can recognize are in the wav and mpeg formats. Any suggestions? This is not for commercial use by any means. Just a teacher trying to be a little clever.

If you want the CD to play in an ordinary CD player, then the files will have to be in WAV format. Burn an MP3 file onto a CD and you'll only be able to use it on a computer or a CD player that can read MP3 files.
