Look on the net for a midi file of the song you want. there are a lot of midi composers out there that post their versions of songs. Sometimes they have an instrument sound playing the melody line. If you don't want this you can remove that track with any midi sequencer application.

I think that you would love Acid by sonic foundry. i Use Acid 3.0 pro, and it can do all of the things you want. also, it is extremely user friendly. check it out.

I need a pro solution to get music into my laptop. Can't use Roland UA-30, because the USB isn't compatible. I have a VIA tech usb. Want to know if I can use the new Audiosport Duo or Quattro from MidiMan, or the Onkyo SE-U55 (which are also USB). If not, what do y'all reccommend as the best solution for a poor grad student to get? Can I use the Midiman Audio Buddy? It doesn't really say what the outputs are on this. I really wish manufacturers would give us all the information! Help, please. I also am considering the WamiBox and the Digigram pcmcia card products- but these are way expensive. If that's my only choice I'll take it, but......

I too am looking for a cheap solution to get proper audio in and out of my laptop - Midiman make great stuff in my experience, so the Duo might be a good choice. As to whether it would work or not, perhaps you could find a quality music store near you with a Duo or Quattro in stock for you to test with your laptop? Or e-mail their support people direct.

Are you sure the UA3 and UA30 wont work with via? I remember some other manufacturer called Aardvark who's interface wasn't compatible with via USB hubs tho.

May be work double checking with Roland or Edirol if u haven't already.

Out of curiosity, is the Duo available yet in the states? I can't get a price from anyone in Europe... Hopefully under US$200.

Have you looked at the Roland UA100? or 100G? Inbuilt effects are nice, plus there is the odd secondhand one on ebay.

BTW I heard EGOsys are releasing a new version of the WAMIbox early next year. This might be really cool (hopefully with windows 2000 drivers which the present one does not have). It'd make the existing model cheaper too.

Anyways, good luck with your choice -

I think I'll wait to see how much the Duo is and get one if it's cheap enough.

This is adressed to all of you people out there in need of serials, warez etc.

You don't have to post messages about stuff like that here. You should know that anyone who break site's rules, could be easily traced and reported (that's bad for ya). Like you Raamond who reside near a square in sweden. You see tracer programs are so cheap anyone can buy them.

If you need ILLEGAL warez, serials etc, use a search engine & you'll find almost anything you need. You see the warez sites almost beg for you to find them. Most of those sites survive because you click on their vote buttons.

Try to remember one thing though, programmers deserve to have a life too, so if you like the program, buy it.

The sound in Reason worse than Fruityloops?!

I create electronic music and I have compared Reason and Fruityloops soundquality. Fruityloops have much better soundquality. The sound is more clean and dynamic, the effects is much better than Reasons delay, distort etc. Still I don´t want to use Fruityloops because Reason is sooo much more fun and creative to use.

When i do songs in Reason the sound is kind of... flat. No dynamic. And it does not help to program the delays to pan left and right, it still sounds flat. It´s not that i don´t know how to use it or that i use bad samples or anything.

Does anyone know why the sound is so much better in fruityloops?

Is there anyway that you can use VST effects or other better effects in Reason? I think perhaps the problem is that Reason doesnt have good effects.

Every program sounds diferent. Fruity has its own sound an the Reason has its own sound. So You must learn both of them.

Yes, I know that every program sounds different and that they have their own distinct sound. My question is why fruity sounds better and cleaner than Reason and if there is some way to make Reason sound better? Its not that I dont know how to run the program.

I know people that have relesed records with songs made in Fruityloops and they sound great. The same person doesnt think Reason has the good sound that it needs to be a really good program, and I agree.

Do any of you know why Reason sound is so much worse?

No free way to do it that I can find
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ - may be able to do it for free though but i haven't tried yet

stream box ripper is only good for .rm & .ra files
and thats only on the versions put out before the law suit.

Most people do not know this, but there is a way to convert
ram to mp3. Going to cost you some though.
1. go to http://www.highcriteria.com/
and download a program called total recorder. it will cost
you about $11.95 for the Total Recorder Standard Edition V4.0
After you have installed it, run it, then click on the red dot
to record. Nothing will happen untill the sound starts coming through
your computer. (in other words play the RAM RA file. When Total Recorder
senses this, it will automatically record the audio. Then save the file. It
will default to a wav file. (if you want to convert a wav
file to a mp3 file, get musicmatch at musicmatch.com
and get the basic download. (Free) then it will convert wav files
to mp3 files for you.

Hope this has helped you out. Enjoy.

I burn images on the Cd.
If I then try to open them on the CD or copy them from the CD on my PC, my system crashes...I tried it on another PC and had the same result.
I work under windows 98 and the pictures are in JPEG format. (taken with a digital camera) I've tried to burn them with and without using the option to first put them in a NRG file. Who can give me a solution.

It's hard not to recommend "Reason" in these circumstances as it's such a great software achievement. There is a demo that you can download as well, go to it and then get back to us if it doesn't suit you.

If you have a midi keyboard, it will address that through a midi interface and allow you to use the massive amount of given keymapped samples in the built in sampler.

wav to cda

i have several albums on one cd all saved as wav file
each album is one wav file anyway to separate the tracks
want to burn each album separately onto cds as cda so can play
on home player

You don't need to convert to CDA unless you have a CD player that reads CD Text.
If not, use something like Cool Edit to chop the WAV file down into shorter
segments then burn the smaller WAV files onto a CD.

Whether someone would have to convert to CDA or not I have a question about that, is CDA a smaller format than wav and if so I'd like to know how to convert to fit more on a disc. I record interviews and the wav files are unruly to save to disc. Is there any program to do this out there. I've got both sound forge and cool edit but admit to being a novice with either piece of software, for all I know they may do this but I don't know how.

CDA is no smaller than WAV. When you burn WAV files onto a CD and look at it with
Windows Explorer, the file type is CDA, so they're basically one and the same.

If you still want to convert WAV to CDA, Blaze Media Pro should do it.

A follow up question. If wav is the same as cda does this imply that I can take the low voltage output from a turn-table playing old LP albums, run this as line input to my pc's wav recorder
then burn these saved wav files on a CD and they will play in a standard audio CD player say like the one in my car??

try sonic foundry's acid pro 3.0...it lets you cut and mix mp3s (or wav files) and burn them on CDs...it's real expensive, but if you look hard enough you can find a free copy of it online somewhere.
