Re: Mac User...

Thanks for your suggestion, but I think that just connects different software synths on your computer. I need something that has a catalog of my keyboard's sounds and allows me to access all of them.
I guess I'll keep looking.

Beginners nightmares!

I am very new to music software and recently bought a carillon ac1 vst songwriter to start writing. I am having a great deal of problems getting the computer to start any more than one application at a time. I would like to be able to run cubase, acid and fruityloops/rebirth/rubberduck at the same time. I have a yamaha sw1000g sound card. Duplex mode? How/where do I enable this?

Many thanks
Chris

Re: Beginners nightmares!

What spec computer have you got?

Andy

Re: Beginners nightmares!

P3 833HZ 128MB RAM 133HZ
Excuse the delay in answer (I am at work)

Re: Beginners nightmares!

That means it's not the computer that's the problem. Unfortunately, I'm not very familiar with the SW1000G. I've had a look at the Yamaha site but they only cover the 1000XG, and there's no mention of duplex in the manual.

I'll keep my eyes open, see if I can find anything that may be of use. In the meantime, pop over to http://www.3dsoundsurge.com/ and have a look in the forums there.

Andy

Re: Beginners nightmares!

Thanks Andy,

I came to the same conclusion last night. I think the problem might be that the card does not support directx. (I THINK!)

Convert Quicktime to mp3

Is there a way to convert quicktime to mp3?

Re: Convert Quicktime to mp3

: Is there a way to convert quicktime to mp3?

Not directly.
Quicktime can play mp3s but it cannot export a file as an mp3.
What you'll have to do is export the quicktime file as either a WAV (for windows) or AIFF (for mac), then use whatever mp3 encoder program you would normally use to convert it.

First you have to convert the midi tracks to audio tracks.
Activate an audio track by clicking on the enable button, you have to enable that same track in the monitor mixer.
Mute all other tracks exept for the midi track you want to record.
Right click on the little speaker icon in the bottom right of your screen to open the volume controls. Then click on OPTIONS/PROPERTIES.
Now tick the RECORD option.
Then tick MIDI in the list underneath, then OK.
Back to Cubase.
Set the left and right locaters to the begining and end of the section you want to record.
Press RECORD.
Cubase should then record the midi to an audio track.
Repeat this process for each midi track.
If the record leval is to low or high, you can adjust it by going back to the volume control by right clicking the speaker icon.
When youve converted all of your midi tracks to audio you can EXPORT AUDIO.
Open the MASTER mixer and make sure your levals are hot but NOT CLIPPING.
Then click on EXPORT AUDIO.
Youll soon get the hang of it.
See ya.

PLEASE I NEED TO KNOW WHERE DOWNLOAD WINDOWS XP

[The body of this post has been lost]

Re: PLEASE I NEED TO KNOW WHERE DOWNLOAD WINDOWS XP

As well as being illegal, Windows XP isn't due for release until this fall.

Also, how are you going to get around the on-line registration what XP requires?
As soon as you try, Microsoft will know you've got an illegal version.

help finding an appropriate software for video production

I need help! I would like to know the difference between MediaStudio Pro 6.0 and Adobe Premiere 6.0. Which program is better and why? What about Matrox RT2500 - I know the Premiere is included but does MediaStudio also work in Matrox RT2500?
Are there similar packages as MatroxRT?

Thank you for the answers!

: : You need to express your problem more clearly, it is difficult to understand what you want... however...
The number of bytes is irrelevant. It is dependent on the size of the file, i.e; the longer the audio track, the more space (bytes) it takes.
If it is a normal audio file, then practically any cdr software will be able to transfer it to disc. What format is it in to begin with? e.g. wav, mp3, aiff etc. They will all be converted to .CDA format, which is the correct format for an audio cd to play on pc or regular hifi.

MP3 Jumper I problem

I have this problem about my Maxell MP3 Jumper I
(parallel port version). The parallel port has
different modes. When I transfer ordinary PC files from
player to PC (ex. *.exe files) the files get corrupted.
This problem occurs at standard mode of parallel port.
When I use ECP mode, the problem disappears(problem is
I work in some computers w/o ECP). When I use
Bi-directional mode, the player does not even work
because the red LED goes off. When I use EPP mode,
there are more instances I have errors downloading MP3
files to player and the computer says the error.
I'm trying to find out if the problem is in the MMC
(multimedia card). I hope you can help..or do you have
the same problem?

Thanks,

music editing

I trying to find a music software that will allow me to take a song apart in layers. Meaning that I can turn down the vocal and just have the instruments playing and maybe then cut out one of the other instruments until I'm left with just one instrument. Can someone tell me an audio editing software that can do this? Thank you

There are no programs capable of sorting out certain instruments in a wav or mp3 file. It is just not possible. You coul use an equalizer supporting many frequencies and you might be able to filter away sub-bas or hi-hat or other frequencies much above or under the others.

I write my own music using MIDI and soundfonts.
How can I create MP3 from this.My soundcard has digital out

M

Re: creating MP3

Sup Mark.
Well like you guessed it digital out won't help that
much unless you have a digital mixer and after that
you send your signal back to the computer.
About a year ago I used to write music with only
soundfonts and midi with an SBlive.
I suppose you have a sequencer. So let's say you're
using Cubase VST( No I swear, I don't work for Steinberg.
I just grew up with them!)
Well your first step is to record all your midi files to Wav or
IFF if you use MAC.
How you do that.
Well 2 ways:
1. You take the output of your soundcard and route it back to its
input and record your sequence as an audio file.Just like a real
midi gear.
WARNING: make sure you mute the channel you record on
or you might have some ugly surprises.
2. The best, IMO! If you use soundfonts i bet you have an
SBlive. In this case. In the SB mixer, choose the midi synth
as source of recording. And record the result into your audio sequencer.
You can do that for every single instruments or just mix all of them
at once. But I won't do that.
Once you have your instruments recorded to audio trakc either ways,
mix it and export it as a stereo wav file.
Then with a mp3 converter such as Music Match or any other one convert it to a mp3 file.
There you go.
BTW programs like Cubase now feature mp3 conversion inside the program. So you don't need to get an extra
mp3 encoder.
Hope that helps.
This subject can be very confusing especially when it comes to convert midi to wave;
which are two different concepts.
So if you have any questions hit me with an email,
I'll be glad to help.
Peace,
Claude

Help finding an appropriate sound recorder program!!!

I really hope someone can help me. I have been searching diligently, for some time now, to find a recording program that is simple to use but complex enough to offer specific recording features.
Everything I have found is either so complicated I would have to spend hours of my time figuring it out (and the tech documents aren’t any help if you know nothing about recording). Or so simplistic it isn’t able to record the way I need it to.
I need a program that I can record separate tracks for the left ear and the right ear. Along with being able to overlap up to 4 track at a time at different sound levels (I am not musically, or technically inclined when it comes to this type of program so please forgive my inadequate verbiage). I was recommended Pro Tools by Digidesign, but after several hours of frustration I am not much further than when I started with, (to some I am sure this is a somewhat simply
program, on the contrary, it is way to high tech for my limited experience). I also tried WaveCreator by Bazeaudio. Easy to use and pretty close to what I need except it doesn’t allow me to record separate tracks for each side (left and right).
Please I need some help finding an adequate program without spending an arm and a leg on something that isn’t going to be used for advanced music recording, and isn’t so high tech I waste hours trying to figure it out.

Savana have you tried Cakewalk? or even acid? acid lets you input samples and has easy mixing capabilities
they all can complicated based on how far you get into them
i use (well playin with) cakewalk home studio 9
but there is always the size and configuration of the machine to deal with
i suggest as an afterthought acid easy and not machine intensive

Re: Help finding an appropriate sound recorder program!!!

Hi Savana
If you need something simple to use and to do separate
mono tracking like you mentionned, I think Cubasis is the way to go.
The new version is really intuitive and the interface is user friendly.
Also it lest you create your music, record to CD or export to mp3.
And plus is really cheap.
Pro Tools is definitely not what you need .

Thanks for the suggestion, I will do a search and try the demo (if available). I am almost at my wits end as I have been exhaustively searching for hrs almost nonstop.

Re: Help finding an appropriate sound recorder program!!!

Hi Savana
I think you best bet would be
N-track Studio its very simple to use and will let you do what your after the other program to try is Quartz Audio Master
once again simple to use but will let you do what you want to do.

Re: Help finding an appropriate sound recorder program!!!

After downloading way to many demos, a lot of trial and error and even more frustration I just
wanted to say thanks for the recommendation of the Quartz Audio Master, I tried all of three that
were recommended above and I felt most comfortable with it. (Still a lot of frustration ahead but at least the help files and support are pretty good with it). That along with the fact it is still technical enough that I can expand and it should suffice me for quite some time.

HELP!!

Ok, here is the deal. I can play bass, guitar, sing, and play the drums, and I want to begin recording my music with my computer. I have no idea where to begin looking for software that I can use to record my guitar riffs, bass lines, drums, and vocals seperately and put them all together to make a song. Is there such software out there? Is there a way to plug my guitar into the computer and then record? Sorry if I sound stupid, I don't know jack about this kind of stuff.

Re: HELP!!

Hi there

You're not stupid and you're not alone on this question. If you're just starting out, I really recommend N-Track for recording. You might want an audio editor as well. Cool Edit 2000 does a nice job. As for guitars, I play drums and samples. I can't recommend anything. But the software you are looking for is at http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/GUITAR/.

Re: HELP!!

Hi, Talena!
You not only a software but you also need a soundcard
without which you won't get any sound in even with the best program
out there.
Since you play live instruments you need a soundcard that has
an input/output box that allows to connect guitar jacks,
Mic XLR and so on.
Check out the Omni Studio by Midiman it will give you an idea of what i'm
talking about.
Software wise it's a little bit harder because everybody
feels different about them although I guarantee you that they
pretty much all do the same thing.
If you just need to record audio tracks get the free version of Pro Tools.
That's probably the best thing around for free.
If you need more advanced midi functions to sequence MIDI stuff get Logic Audio or
Steinberg Cubase VST. If you feel like it's too complicated
get Steinberg's Cubasis. It's really easy to use and the sound quality is excellent at this price.
Plus it accepts VST plug in's so you can apply effects to your tracks in real time.
The best thing to do before buying is to download the free demo version of all this programs
and try them. It's only way to find out which one you feel better with.
Hope that starts you up,
Peace,
