Re: help !!!!!!!!!

: could someone please tell me how to convert mp3's to cda format so that i can listen to them on a normal stereo

Hello Cozer.

You can burn audio CDs directly from .wav files. If you need help converting mp3s to wavs, check out my tutorial -- http://zeroworks.org/tutorials/mp3_wav.shtml .

Good luck.

Cilanntrus

Re: help !!!!!!!!!

If your burning program supports MP3 to be used in making Audio CD's, then you can select Audio CD in your burning program and drag the MP3's into the window... if it doesn't support MP3, then you need to convert your MP3's to wav files. If you get Winamp ( www.winamp.com ) it's free, it plays MP3's, and it has an MP3 to wav converter built in.

trouble with .wav files from vinyl rips

I am trying to transfer my record collection to cd. I have been able to record .wavs to my hard drive, but when I play them back, there's a problem with the file. At certain points, the file gets stuck on a particular part of the song for a second, so that it sounds like it's stuttering, then plays regularly.

Example: If the song lyric is "there's a fine lady"
it comes out like "th-th-th-there's a fine lady"

How can I fix this problem? Is it that I don't have enough memory to record the vinyl output smoothly? My computer has 160 MB of RAM and a 3 gig hard drive. Is there a program I can get to fix this?

Thanks,
B.

Re: trouble with .wav files from vinyl rips

First time I gotta CD burner, I recorded from an analog source on a Pentium 133 MHZ computer with 64 RAM and windows 98. I used a PCI Yamaha sound card that's 15 bucks and my hard drive was a 10 gigger. Had no problems recording with that. Just kept all the programs off. Also, I use Media Jukebox to do the recording. I think it does GREAT. Try that.

I think your computer is multi-tasking, I get the same problems with Win amp playing MP3 files, close all unnecessary applications from the task bar.
You can also increase the buffer size, I don't what you are using to play back the wav or MP3 files.

Re: trouble with .wav files from vinyl rips

A good possibiltiy is that your Hard drive is not fast enough to maintain the data rate, a wav file is about 10 megs of data per minute, sustained.... most drives are only bench marked by the mfg by maximum burst speed. You have plenty of RAM, in fact, if your using Windows98, chances are everything above 128 isn't really getting used for anything.

Dungeons and Dragons Rocks, don't knock it, and Warhammer, and Magic cards and Star Wars cards and Star Trek and electronics and I wear thick glasses, I've got red hair, I get nosebleeds, and am allergic to heaps of stuff, so I have to wear gloves when I play D&D because I am allergic to the paint.

You realise if I was a hell fucken geek, I could fuck you up at 195.92.67.38 but I haven't met enough hackers on the D&D circuit, so it'll have to wait.

Mixer - isolating vocals or isolating music

To remove vocals there is only really one way, the "karaoke" method. if you have any programs that have chennel mixing, sum the 2 channels to mono, and invert one channel.. it doesn't matter which. However, this does not give you perfect results, most of the time..it ponly really works if the vocals are in the centre of the stereo image. as for the other way aroound, there has been some discussion of how you can do it, but it can't be done with a PC, due to the fact that most of the programs are non-destructive. you migh want to check to see if your sound editor has a destructive mode, and it might work..

Can't get soundfonts with SB Live to work

Howdy all,

I've got a Soundblaster live card, and can only get what i think is the onboard midi sounds to work from seuencer programs. I can load in other soundfonts and here them through the software associated with the card, but not through any really useful sequencers. I think i lack a basic understanding of how it all works - and have struggled to find any good docs in the net to expllain. If youy know what i'm talkinmg about and can assist, please email me.

Thanks

Regards
Paul Duncan

Re: Can't get soundfonts with SB Live to work

Hello

I think you need to select the proper port to
route the MIDI through. On my system,
its set up so that Port A for the SBLive!
]is port 1, the Creative S/W synth is port 2, B for
the SBLive is port 3, SBLive MIDI out is port 4, and
port 5 is the MIDI Mapper. DON'T USE THE MIDI MAPPER!
It has caused me a lot of trouble. Email me what software
you are using and what font you are loading, I can
probably help.

sheet music! help me out!

is there any program that can give me the sheet music for hit songs? if so please tell me

Sheet Music...

I doubt that you will find a program like that but I prepared to be proven wrong. There is too many copyright issues I would imagine and it would be constantly out dated. I have, on occasion, been in search of some myself and usually find it by searching for sheet music in a search engine. I haven't explored this result but it might be worth a look...

computer speed, slow music mixing

I am having kind of an issue with my computer. I am using my pc for my remixing, the hook-up I have is mixman studio, which is one of the best in the market. Mixman offers several fx to be added to a mix as it's being performed/recorded. The thing is that a couple of the sound twitching fx keep getting disabled as I perform them, follow me? Say I am I have some tracks loaded and they are playing, I may want to scratch the sound for a sec, sometimes it just sounds like a skip. I am almost positive that I do have enough memory for those fx but I also have some programs running open in the background (icons showing on the lower right hand corner), if I close these bastards, would that speed up my mixman and would my fx stop disabling themselves? Is it possible that open running programs that are not being used could affect the overall speed of my pc? The rest of the process is working just fine, in fact, some really cool mixes are being produced in my small but skilled shack of House Beats! How would I close these things without totally deleting them from my hardrive? Thanks for any suggestions and check out radio mixman for some phat joints.

Re: computer speed, slow music mixing

What are your PC's specs?
speed, amount of memory, how much Virtual memory do you have? what soundcard?

anyways, if you kill some of those drivers and TSR's in the right hand side, it should free up some memory, but it's not going to guarantuee better performance.. but it';s definately worth trying. I noticed that with my 300Mhz 64Mb ram SBlive machine, I had Mixman skipping also.

cd recording

Can somebody please help me on how to copy cd tracks on a hard drive? I am trying to make an audio compilation on a Sony CD rewritable but the software that was included on the package only support .WAV and MP3 files. I need some suggestions on downloadable CD rippers from the internet which can copy a CDA format.

Re: cd recording

Most if not all rippers will copy CD Audio files to a wav or MP3 file on your hard drive. THere are some in the software section on this site.
A few pretty good ones are Musicmatch jukebox, Audiocatalyst, and they cost a bit.. but they do the jobs.

One tip for you though, you say you want to use a re-writeable disc. This will NOT work for audio unless A)You plan to use it only on your computer or B) you have a DVD player which will work with re0writeables, such as some Pioneer models.

THis one, tells you more, but it's at the bottom of the page.

Digital Home Studio

I'm looking to build a digital home studio through my home computer. I do not play any musical instruments. I need assistance on purchasing the software that would be able to take the melodies that are in my head and help me to produce a track. Hopefully I've explained this to the best of my ability. Everyone that I've contacted has given me the run around.

My question to you is what would be the best program to purchase? Some say it's ("Home Studio 9" or "Groovemaker" by Cakewalk and some say ACID DJ 2.0,etc.)

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Re: Digital Home Studio

My best suggestion is this: Minimalism. Get equipment and software that does it all for you. There's a ton of programs and hardware out there ranging from cheap to rediculously expensive and you want inexpensive but good. These are my suggestions: Program: PowerTracks Pro Audio ($29.00, a full-featured MIDI sequencer that allows you to record as many digital audio tracks your computer can handle, it also has all the digital effects you need and more; read about it at www.powertracks.com). Soundcard: SoundBlaster Live (the full version, don't get the cheaper "value" version. With the full version, you'll get a program called SoundForge which is a very serious audio editor and a few others, get the Platinum version which comes with a front panel to connect everything, including your keyboard and speakers). This soundcard I've recommended to you is capable of using SoundFonts, which in short are samples you can buy from a million and one sources out there (a million and one instruments and sounds, you get it?) or you can make your own using your soundcard ( the soundcard costs around $200.00). All you need then is a MIDI controller or you can use your existing keyboard's MIDI in/out to connect to the soundcard. I'll tell you this though, nothing beats researching things yourself. Do yourself a favor and research the things I've mentioned and then research some more.

Locating Midi Sequence "Arrangement/er" Soft Ware

Hi:
In the past, I am positive I have come across software pages that said they had software that could assist (or take over even) with setting arrangements for midi sequences, etc.

I am also looking for software that can act as an "add on" support for creating intros and tag ends for existing midi sequences.

Can anyone help...I would really appreciate it if you could.

Mboom

I've got Mboom and I'm having trouble locating the source sounds to start looping a track. Whe I follow the instructions, I can't get any sound. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks, Jason

I was wondering if anyone can suggest a piece of software that I can use instead of spending thousands of dollars on a keyboard. I'm looking for something that allows me a vast amount of editting capabilities also.

Can you be more specific about what you want to do?
Sounds like you need at least some soft synths and
a sequencer but I can't be sure.

Alf.
