Re: Midi files will not play on Media player or Cresendo
Try re-installing your soundcard drivers, if you have them handy. or else, you might need to select a different midi output driver/port

Re: *** organ-SF2 ***
Hello. I found a really nice SoundFont of about 15 different theatre organs packed in one.
Go to http://www.pvv.org/cgi/thammer/soundlink.pl
They have SoundFonts, well organized, of most any musical instrument. This is the first place I look for the things. I recommend the Theatre Organ (7.1MEG) Soundfont

Question..
Alright I just wanted to know is there any form of music software that can do what I'm about to ask. Me and a couple of emcees/rappers are going to be rapping in a voice activated chatroom. I wanted to know was there a software that could record this session without me having to put my microphone by the speakers?

The program Total Recorder can record everything
that goes through your sound card directly to your
hard disk.
Let me know how it goes on the chat room - I've
never thought of doing that before!

Burning CDs
Have tried copying audio cds from my pc's cdrom to my cd burner(HP7500). I have 192MB of ram on a PII 400mhz pc. After the 1st track is read and writing is attempted, I get an error message that says "error in output device".I have yet to be able to copy an audio cd. Please Help!!
Re: Burning CDs
You need a program called a "ripper"
no, it doesn't hurt your CD's, but it copies the audio data in wav format or MP3 format.
If you have the free space on your hard disk to hold the whole disc (650 Megabytes maximum) then go with wav file, as the ripper will not need to encode to MP3, which takes a while, and some CD burning programs are not compatibke yet with MP3's. a few suggestions ofr rippers are audiocatalyst and musicmatch jukebox.

buffer underun
when copying audio cd's, writer rejects after (differing times) with message 'buffer underrun' cannot copy to hard drive as system crashes. Am using Adaptec software. Any ideas?
Re: buffer underun
I think it's usually that you aren't getting a high enough sustained data rate from your hard drive... most new ones are ATA66 (66MB/s) and 7200 RPM disk speed, instead of 5400, but the RPM speed shouldn't be a factor.
: when copying audio cd's, writer rejects after (differing times) with message 'buffer underrun' cannot copy to hard drive as system crashes. Am using Adaptec software. Any ideas?
Re: buffer underun
Try recording (simulation) at the slowest possible speed (1x), if you haven't already. I know it will be time consuming but it might help. You may need a faster proceessing speed on your computer, the reason I say that is when I first tried recording, I used to get that buffer underrun message also (Adaptec) but I was using an older, slower computer, so I had to go from 2x to 1x to get it to work. Since then, I've upgraded to a much faster computer and haven't had the underrun problem since.
Re: buffer underun
I have done simulations with Neroand adaptek I still get underuns if I attempt to burn at anything higher than4x although I am supposed to be able to go to 12x.I have 98 megs of memory and 550 mh pentium III. I wonder if the problem is not caused by the memory in the source and destination drives. 128 Kb in source and ?in destination drive.

Did you refresh the plugin list? does that version of Soundforge support DX?

i've been sitting in front of my computor for 3 days trying to figure it out, and now i'm frustrated

Re: frustrated
You need a CD burning program such as Easy CD creator or Nero. Once you are in there, it should be easy.

convert Liquid Audio to mp3 or wav
Are there any programs to convert Liquid Audio to mp3 or wav files?
Re: convert Liquid Audio to mp3 or wav
: Are there any programs to convert Liquid Audio to mp3 or wav files?
I've been looking for a way to convert the Liquid Audio into another sound format. The only way I've found so far is to set my Creative recorder to the "record what you hear" setting, play the liquid audio file, and record it as a wav file. The sound quality is the same, practically speaking.
Re: convert Liquid Audio to mp3 or wav
did you ever get an answer to your question? I want to know also.
Thanks!

how to change sampling rate of file to 44100 mhz???
I have some killer mp3s that i got off of napster, but the sampling rate is something like 48000 mhz, and i cant burn then onto a c.d. is there any free/shareware
program that would allow me to change the rate to 44100mhz after decompressing to a wav file? big time thanks to anyone who can help me out.-damon

Re: how to change sampling rate of file to 44100 mhz???
CD Audio is 44 Khz, 16 bit, Stereo.
if it's 48Khz, I would use Winamp to conve4rt it to a wav file, and re-sample in Cooledit.

CD audio is at 48 khz i assume that is what these files are at. this is the right resolution to be burnt to CD, if you downsampled to 44.1 khz, you would only have to upsample again.
thanks,but...

actually, i am pretty sure that c.d. res. is
44.1, but either way, IS there something that i can do to change the frequency(downsampling or upsampling i guess??)these files are definately not on the right sampling rate.is there any software out there that can do this?
i got d software
there is a program called cool '96.just search for that in a search engine and it will tell u where u can download it from.it can downsample and upsample which is very good cause i ave some lethal mp3s off napster that didnt go on the cd cause they were at 22khz instead of 41khz or whatever it is supposed to be.hope u found this useful

Sampling Rate Conversion
CD audio is actually 44,100Hz 16bit, just to clear that up. It is _always_ this value.
As far as converting your files, check out Shuffler Music Converter ( http://www.illustrate.org ). It can convert audio files between mp3, wav, and wma files as well as convert the sampling rate at the same time. SMC is also very simple to work with.
Have some great CD burning fun.

sound mixing
I have a couple of mp3s and wav files that the snare drum is too loud and the
guitars and vocals are too low. Is there any software to help mix the sound
the way i like it and then re-record it? Help?

You can't seperate the individual sounds (tracks) at this stage as the audio document is now 'a mix' of all the original sounds and can't be treated seperately. The only thing I could suggest is using a parametric Eq program and try and establish the frequencies you want to reduce in volume. You may find that reduction of the frequencies related to the snare drum will assist in bringing out the guitars and vocals The 'snap' sound related to the snare can often be found around 2.5khz. Have a look around there and some of the lower frequencies from 400hz to around 1.5khz. Basically, have a fiddle, you might be able to roughly acheive what you want. If you have little experience with parametric EQ's then follow this short guide.
A fully parametric EQ will allow you to select the frequency to adjust, the amount you want to adjust and the size of the frequency range (BandWidth, or 'Q'). You could say select 2.5khz, adjust the 'Q' to narrow. (0.5 say) and adjust the volume. The smaller the 'Q' the narrower the frequencies either side of the selected frequency will be affected. I think a 'Q' of 1 equals a bandwidth of 1khz which translates to 500hz either side of the selected frequency therefore if you select 1khz as the frequency to be affected and have a 'Q' of 1 then you will be adjusting the volume of frequencies between 500hz and 1.5khz. (this is how I remember it, I could be wrong).
A 'notch filter' is sometimes provided which has a 'very' narrow bandwidth (Q). This allows for removal of say 50/60hz (depending on country) mains hum or any other problem frequencies. Worth a try though in you situation.
Cheers
Steve

Re: Voice tuning
Hello
Antares Autotune ( http://www.antares-systems.com )does a pretty good job of Vocal Tweeking. It is however rather expensive.
I know there are other programs, but I just can't think of them right now...
hmm... maybe I need to think "harder".
