ISO: audio mixer w/ realtime plugin support

woudn't it be great if there were a simple little program that would let you apply all your audio plugins to your audio in real time? no recording, no midi, just using your computer as a mixer/effects rack.

for example, i have sonic foundry's excellent vinyl restoration software. i'd like to just run my turntable signal, which is routed through my computer, through the plugin (which works in realtime). Then I could record my outputs to minidisc. you could just have a little graphical signal chain router with room for as many plugins as your processor could handle.

i think you can do this on Pro Tools 5, but i'm just thinking a cheap little virtual mixer/processor. this seems so simple that i must already own something that can do it. don't know what that is though...

I saw on the listing of good books that "Midi for the Professional" is supposed to be an excellent guide. However, the description doesn't say what the book contains, just how great it is. I'm looking for a book for a new musician that explains how to use effects and instruments to create moods. What's best for given situations, etc... Is this the book to get or can someone recommend something better.

lot of good descriptions of Midi books at

GD+G PLAYER FOR PC????

..Anyone know where to find one? They can't be that hard.
I tried to use cdgplay.exe but it is in a dos format
and my cdrom is not setup for dos and I don't want the hassle.
There must be one for W95.....
one would think so wouldn't one.
Maybe a plug in for Real Player or Media Player?

I have a MMX PC, a SB16 compatible card (C-media)
Can anyone tell me what is the best way to set up for VST24? or is my gear too crap??!!

Basically,
1) do I run on DirectX or MultiMedia set -up.
2) How about the buffer size and stuff in audio set up?
3) I get a view glitches in the sound when it (sometimes) works ok.
and finally....it's very temperamental on starting up in that it tells me it may not have full duplex but it definitely does. I have to turn duplex off before it allows th eprogram to kick in with the main screen.

SORRY TO GO ON BUT I'D REALLY APPRECIATE ANY HELP. IT'S SO BLOODY FRUSTRATING!!!

Fuck da .WAV though... Those is for Wintel Pieces of SHIT. This here utility makes AIFF's which you can burn regular Audio CD's with.

I don't know any programs that will convet mp3 to
wav in a single step on a mac but if you go to the
Macintosh Format Converters page on this site at
<a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/mac/FORMAT_CONVERTERS/">http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/mac/FORMAT_CONVERTERS/</a>
you will find a range of programs like SoundApp
and MPEGAud which will convert to mac audio formats
then you can download programs like Ultra Recorder
or Mac2Win which will then convert your audio into
.WAV files.

Winamp Media Files

I recently downloaded Winamp to convert mp3's to wav files. I also have
Ra2Wav on my PC to convert Real Audio files to Wav files. Before I had
Winamp when I used Ra2Wav it would convert the real audio file into a
wav file, now when it converts a file it converts it to a Winamp file
and I have already removed the Winamp software. I do remember the
software asking me if I want to make Winamp my default program for all
audio files. How do I change this so that Winamp media files are no
longer extentions for my audio files.

The easiest way is to just install a different
program and let it become the default for your
audio files - I like <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Cool_Edit_2k/">Cool Edit</a>

Organising Classical music - software

Can you please tell me which software for this purpose is the most versatile. I would also like to be able to write some notes about the music and print off a catalog with all the information I need.
I am very concerned about downloading these programs. Can you please be honest about how safe this is...Viruses etc.

Burning Audio files

I've just started using my new HP burner and the sound quality is poor when I replay it in my Car CD. Is this a common problem and how can I fix it?

PS. It sounds fine on my in home stereo and the car CD plays store bought CD fine. I have tried burning at slower speeds and that doesn't help.

S-1000 Sample Transfer

I'm looking for some software to transfer samples between my Mac and my aging, but still functional S-1000. TransferStation won't install on a non-floppy machine (e.g. my G3 Powerbook).

although the free version of this program will only
give you 10 seconds of clean audio before a voice
is placed over the top - you can remove the voice
by registering the program.

well i've been attempting to convert a .RA file into a .wav, but it keeps giving me the message that i have to download real audio to install codec and i don't know what this is supposed to mean because i already have real audio.

Saving your .mp3 files as .cda files won't work.

You need to convert your .mp3 files to .wav files
(specifically 16 bit stereo at 44.1 Khz) and then
use your <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/CD_BURNERS/">CD Burning software</a> to burn the .wav files
onto a CD-R. You will then be able to listen to
them on a normal CD player.

Hi!
I don't know how to get the internal metronome (Click track) to work. Once it works i need to make the click pan to left and the midi sequence to the right so when i burn it to CD for live applications i can assign the click (left) to the drummer and right(sequence) to the P.A. Can you help me!!

You should be able to but if you can't then just
download the file as it is and then change the
extention to .mp3 after you've downloaded it and
you will then be able to listen to it.

The program Ra2Wav isn't available anymore so you
will need to get <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/TotalRecorder/">Total Recorder</a> which will let you
make a .WAV copy of any audio you are listening to
including RealAudio.

or just Cubase.net and from there hit transmissions.
This will take you to a forum page, and there is a
post on the Mac side that talks about OMS 2.3.8
I believe it is on the download page of Cubase.net.
