Opinions about new softsynth
Hi.
I've heard about and downloaded a new software synthesizer made by a new
company (www.applied-acoustics.com). Being new in the softsynth aera and
thinking about buying one, I was wondering if someone already download
and tried their "Lite Demo" ? Any comments or suggestions vs other
softsynths are welcome.
Thanks for your answers!

MP3 file format - does anybody know?
does anyone know the format of the MP3 frame - I know all about the header, but what does the 'data' part look like? How long is each frame (I know the header is 32 bits). I am doing a final year project involving mp3s, and need the information urgently!
Thanks,
JP

ANNOUNCE: Digital Ear [WAVE-to-MIDI] FREE Demo
________________________________________________________________________
PRESS RELEASE: Epinoisis Software Corporation. November 29, 1999
________________________________________________________________________
Epinoisis Software Corporation Announces:
Digital Ear® FOR WINDOWS 98/95 Revolutionary Wave-to-MIDI conversion software.
FREE DEMO at: http://digitalear.iwarp.com/
Customers: Get your FREE upgrade now! E-mail us at: sales@digitalear.iwarp.com
Your customer ID is necessary.
________________________________________________________________________
» What is Digital Ear®?
Digital Ear can analyze a recorded solo performance (e.g. a singing human
voice, or any musical instrument) and convert it to a standard MIDI file. That
file can be send directly to any synthesizer, or can be imported to your
favorite sequencer (e.g. Cubase VST, Cakewalk etc. ) for mixing with other
tracks, or further processing. Digital ear reads standard PCM wave (.wav)
files.
» Beyond «Pitch-to-MIDI» Conversion
Unlike conventional so-called
«Pitch-to-MIDI» converters, Digital Ear will send high-resolution pitch events
closely matching those of your original sound. Any vibrato, tremolo,
pitch-bend, or portamento effects of your recorded sound will be faithfully
converted and reproduced into any voice of your synthesizer.
» Pitch is Only the Beginning…
A unique capability of Digital Ear not found elsewhere, is that it can capture
and send to your MIDI synthesizer, detailed envelope and timbre dynamics
(brightness) events. Those features can boost your synthesizer's voice realism
and enhance your musical expression. Think of Digital Ear as your ultimate
MIDI controller!
» Digital Ear® Key Features
* State-of-the-Art recognition engine. Based on the latest
psychoacoustical research on human pitch perception. Captures
with incredible accuracy instantaneous pitch, volume, and timbre
dynamics, with minimal errors.
* Full-featured build-in Voice Features Editor. View your voice
features as evolve over the time with an advanced graphical
representation (virtual keyboard, chart, sliders). Edit the pitch,
volume and brightness of the sound at any time-slice with
unmatched accuracy and ease.
* Completely customizable to match every musical instrument or
human voice. Store an unlimited number of user-defined engine
settings.
* Ultra high time resolution (10 ms frame size minimum).
* Two types of MIDI files ensure full compatibility with all known
sequencers.(Such as Cubase VST, Cakewalk e.tc.)
* Power Tools:
* Auto Correct. Will clean up for you most tracking errors
automatically.
* Pitch Quantize. Quantize your track to the nearest
semitone values.
* In-Tune Wizard. Will tune for you automatically a
de-tuned performance, without altering the perfomance
dynamics.
* Integrated MIDI-file player. Sends your file to any user
selectable any MIDI device.
* MIDI controller redirection. Select any MIDI controller to send
brightness events.
* Unlimited MIDI voice selection. Select any of the 128 GM (General
MIDI) voices.
* Full automated for GM (General MIDI) and Yamaha-XG
compatible synthesizers. Also support for MIDI synthesizers that
do not conform to these standards.

ENSONIQ, PC, and ME!!!!!!?
I am sitting here (finally!) in front of my ENSONIQ EPS with It's SCSI 4X-memory Expander cartridge AND My Computer O' 166mhz, Win98, with It's available COM/SERIAL? PORT in back! Only problem is No manual for the EPS and No idea how the two should be interfaced.....and maybe a question as to why they should be interfaced (possibilties!)
I have done some straight recording of some of my old samples into SOUND FORGE and that has been fun. I would like to see what other options there are as far as that goes.
If anyone has an EPS manual or knows where to find one online, I would be very interested, and have several older and harder to find manuals to maybe trade with.
THANKS!

:Too bad Ensoniq is almost dead, but don't give up!Go to www.chickensys.com for any Ensoniq related manuals, software based editors, and user links/forums for the eps.Garth and co. probobly has eps manuals and they are currently working on a "translator" that will let you work on wav files in Sound Forge and save them in EPS format. One of my samplers is a rack mount ASR 10 linked to my PC with an Adaptec SCSI card, and I bought Ensoniq Midi Disk tools from rubber chicken software which is a pretty decent editor for Ensoniq based samplers. My advice, get the translator, edit your samples in Sound Forge, save 'em to floppy,or buy a SCSI card, and transfer 'em ready to play in your fossilized EPS.To interface with PC based sequencing apps, buy a soundcard that has a joystick port,if yours doesn't have one already, and purchase a Joystick/Midi cable to control your eps via midi.Good luck!

Try ACID from Sonic Founfry. Great software to make mixes.
Re: New to comp mixing need advice
If you want absoulutely perfect mixes, try Sonic Foundry Soundforge 4.5c. The beat calculation there is to 000's of a secon, and the crossfade function is perfectly sufficient for nice long, smooth mixes.

What media shoud I use for music mixes? CD-R or CD-RW
Hi,
Can anyone advise me on what type of media I should use for my music files. I've put a bunch of songs from my cd collection to mp3 format, and my brother just got a CD-RW on his new computer. Now I want to be able to put my mp3's on disk so that I can play them on my home stereo and in my car. I've tried by converting some mp3's to wav files and then burning them onto a CD-RW. However, when I tried to play it on my car stereo, it gave me a cd-error. Same on my home stereo. The funny thing is that the disc works on a dvd player and on a dvd-rom. Is my problem the cd-rw disk or something that I'm doing. BTW, I'm using Adaptec Easy CD Creator.
Sorry for the long message. Thanks.

Hi
ordinary cd players dont work very well (if at all) with CDRW media. Always use write once only media. Also burn on a slow speed (2 speed) and avoid the mp3 conversion altogether for optimum audio quality. Just rip it straight to .wav format from the audio cd and then burn your compilation. The mp3 step will decrease your quality to less than hi fidelity.
Ciao

Looking for music education/notation software
I have a Roland FP1 keyboard with MIDI, MIDI interface, and a MAC Powerbook G3. I have rudimentary piano skills, and am a songwriter. What I'm ultimately looking for is software that will give me music theory and practice, piano instruction, and music notation. I'm particularly looking for notation that is not only hand done, but will be typed on the score directly when I play the keyboard. Is there a software program that does all that? Or, are different ones you could recommend? Thank you. - Carla
