Bass guitar program?

Hi...i'm completely new to computer music production. My brother does lotsa samples and computer music stuff and he's got lotsa programs but mainly for mastering and samples and the likes for creating u know, dance music.

I play guitar and i'm trying to record guitar and hopefully create some music with a 'digital' band.

I've d/l some guitar FX prgrams for guitar, and drum machine programs. The truth is, i have got no midi-keyboard or mixer and any shit. all i have is a 450 Pentium III computer.

the only thing i am missing now is some sort of bass guitar program for creating bass guitar parts. i am not talking abt techno kind of bass robotic sounds...i am talking real bass guitar tone. if u know of any program like that, pls lemme know.

ALSO, if u can help me get started on recording guitar straight into the computer, and what programs i should d/l and get(pirated..i guesshah)...pls leemme knoe.

Fruity Loops does a nice job with Basslines. It supports any Wav sample, so you can get together some pretty good sounding basses. and each note is completely pitchable, so it is fast and easy to lay down a line.

Recording guitar straight thru the pc is a real pain. I am a guitarist and I have had no luck getting a "normal" tone using direct input with effect S/W. A much easier solution is to get a decent mic and record that way. If you're looking for unreckognisable sounds from your guitar, than their are plenty of options, but for a guitar that sounds like a guitar, I've had no luck.

Many plug-ins and programs offer the ability to increase the loudness of a sound piece.
Loudness maximizing is a smart compression algorithm that increases the sonic energy found in a sound piece by reducing the difference between lower and higher level parts of a the signal without altering the shape of its waveform.
It makes everything seem louder but without the dynamic range sometimes needed. Good for dance music or mainstream commercial sounds, bad for classical or solo pieces. Must have for radio and TV.
Better than classical compression that changes the shape of the waveforms rather abruptly on most (cheap) compressors.

I also have used a GEM WS2 for many years. Although it is unorthodox! in the extreme, I don't want to change it.
The way that I sometimes use it is to download MIDI files. Play them on a sequencer program, I have always used Voyetra DOS based sequencer SQ plus III
More recently I have used Passport'm MusicTime, and very recently I have started using Voyetra MIDI Orchestrator Plus.
I must say, that I prefer the DOS based sequencer, but then I'm old fashioned.

I set the GEM clock to external, set to record, and play the file. Once it is recorded, you can then save in GEM format to your disk unit.
You will have one hell of a time trying to get the right drum sounds to play out, cos its completely non GM.
Its OK with the Windows sequencers cos you can remap the sounds using a key map in MIDI Mapper. Before I got that I used to transpose all the parts manually,
don't you just love comupters?

Go to the software section of this site and click on CD-RIPPERS. These will do the job nicely. You'll have to try some for not all of them will work on your system :(
CD-Copy works fine for me...

Sony/Panisonic Digital InterFace

It uses normal phono type connections to transmit digitally between devices that support s/pdif.
As I'm sure you know digital music is far better than analogue, apparently.

I have 2x synthsisers and a drum machine routed thru a mixer then into the crappy little line in jack on my soundcard, can i use the SPDIF ports instead? if so how?

Solero crashes

We have downloaded Solero and have tried to play the music on it nine times
and each time about half way thru it, it throws up an illegal window and if
I don't get rid of that window immediately it shuts down the mouse so I have
to reboot the computer.
