NEW CUBASIS AV (aka VST jr.)-check out the specs @ http://www.steinberg.net/products/musicmac.html - this retails for $100+, it come unregistered with all the original stuff. It makes very good start for a beginner.

$40 and it's yours.

Basics on Cubase Studio Setup

I just got a mac-G3 with cubase software Can anyone: a) send me a manual or titles of resources and manuals for cubase? b)Give me some basic info on how to set up a studio-audio and digital? do i still need to run all my components through my mixer etc?

I own logic audio 3.7, but my mac isn't that fast. Is there a way to "print the effects to tape" like a traditional recorder? Perhaps mixing it to quicktime and then bringing it back into logic? I'm trying to free things up.

in Logic you have the possibilities to listen
to the plug-ins' effect in realtime and to
resample your tracks including the effect.

I don't use Logic but there must be an option
to prevent realtime-fx.

Isis Maxi Studio & Trax

Any opinions on Isis Maxi Studio by Guillemot and the software (Logic Audio pro Isis) it includes?
Does that combination understand the stuff I´ve done with Trax and Korg Audio Gallery?
If it doesn´t, what should I do to make my old Trax-stuff work also in Isis. (Trax is under win 3.11)

Very good value for money.
Too few effects (the GS set)
Very quiet inputs outputs.
No ASIO 2.0 drivers for cubase.
16 channels only playback capability of the Logic
Audio it comes with.
A bit primitive sample making and synthesising
interface.
Overall a very good buy.

Do you know whY?

I've worked with the free version of ProTools and made some nice pices. Meantimes I have uptated the OS of my Mac to Version 8.1 and ProTools doesnt run .Any solutions?

I can't help (sorry!) but I'm wondering where you got your copy of 3.4. I'm a graduate student working on an audio documentary project & I'm desperate to get my hands on a copy. Any suggestions? (& I've got OS 8.5... did you ever get your copy to work or should I expect future misery?)

This version was distributed as free version with no restrictions on a cd-rom frm a german macintosh magazin two jears ago.

I posted yesterday the same Question the discussion forum http://www.maccentral.com/forum/ and got the answer: the drive must be formatted normaly and not in the HFS+ format. I installed a second drive and look it works! Thanks a lot for the quick help. The digidesign support database has the answer that it will not work with systems MacOs8 or higher...

there is a really cool new mp3 player for d.j's
it has only been out for about a week and from what i read the future release will have scratch capabilities. the really cool thing about this software is the automatic gain control and the very cheap introductory price of $59us. that's right, i'm not joking. go check it out and let me know what you think.

Convert audio files

Encore 4.1 install problem in Win 98

I'm attempting to install Encore 4.1 onto
my new Win 98 machine. It works fine on my
old Win 95 machine and seems to install
properly on the Win 98 machine; however, when I
launch it, it stays greyed out and won't perform any
tasks. I've called and written to tech support
at gvox.com, but gotten no answer. Anyone have any
suggestions? Do I need a Win 98 upgrade, perhaps?

Turns out I'm posting my own followup:

I just got my Encore problem straightened out.
The issue was that it wouldn't install properly
on my new computer, and I couldn't get it to
run if I just copied the old version over,
either. So I installed it and then copied some of
the files over to the new machine from the
old one and *poof* it worked. I copied all the
files from the main Encore directory EXCEPT the
.exe and the .hlp files. Thought I'd post
this in case anyone else has this problem.

Creating/engineering new sounds

I want to be able to create all those amazing sounds I hear in my head. Lots of them are too far out to create by sampling and re-sculptering other sounds with what I've got. What software do I need to engineer or create these totally new sounds, to then put on a keyboard?. I'm getting limited with my resistors and transistors with effects pedals and sampler. If you're into it please tell me the score

Need the best editing program for a MAC

I'm trying to record from a DAT player to the computer
and then put the files onto a CD using JAM. What is the
best editing program to edit the beginnings and ends
of the tracks? I've tried SoundMaker and I've had
trouble with the auto-gain feature seemingly not ever
shutting off and giving me bad levels and a lot of hiss.

These types of amps can not be "piggy-backed" in the conventional sense without dangerous consiquences. If you're running multiple speakers you can run 2 with each amp, reducing the power drain on the individual amps. If you have seperate component speakers, running the more powerful amp thru the woofers and the weaker thru the mids/tweats will give you the most umph.

I tried to run before I could walk in this computer based music business and am now going back to basics! What I NEED to know is how compatible the soundblaster live is with my pc, no peice of info would be to small. I was also thinking of purchasing the REAKTOR 2.0. Will this set up be compatible? Please give any answers in easy to follow Englaish as I really havent got this computer jargon yet! Also how easy or hard is the soundblaster to install? many many many thanks in advance

Re the SBLive!If I can install it anyone can.
Remember, however, if you have existing on board
sound rather than via an existing PCI card you will
have to disable the sound in Bios before the new card will work.
It's definitely value for money.
For it's a grand old team to play for....

The SBLiveValue is the best of the inexpensive cards. Clean sound, lots of options. It is not a Turtle Beach, but for under $100 you really can't go wrong. Installation is without complication, I am running a SBLive along with the onboard SB PCI64 on a GW 333. I've run into very few conflicts with software, and when I have the Software companies have had fixes for the conflicts (I believe there is something with Seer, but there site has a fix posted.) Reaktor works fine.
