I also could not allow users to burn cds. I tried all of the aforementioned fixes without success. However on a whim, I reinstalled Nero v 5.5.7.2 (I didn't remove it first - just installed over itself) and succeeded in getting access for the
users group. I think the key is modifying the security setting on the CD device (Control Panel/Admin Tools/Computer Management/Storage /Removable Storage/Libraries/[cd rom]) by right clicking the device, then Properties/Security. Be sure the
user group of interest (e.g. USERS) has permission to "Modify" files. After this is set, then install Nero.

I used to have the same problem, but i found out how to stop it. Whenever i burned a dreamcast game only the ripper logo such as echelon would pop up. I figured out that this was because i burned at a speed higher then the cd-r's capability. i have a 20x burner and tried burning at 20x with a 16x max cd-r. if u had done this then burn only at the cd-r's max speed (unless your burner is slower than the cd-r's max speed). If this doesn't solve the problem, or if this isn't the case then i can't help you. Can you give any good Dreamcast Iso or Nrg sites with good ftps and games? Thanks.

You must be kidding.
There's almost nothing in that "manual" that is of any use. It looks more like a sales pitch.
I was really hoping for something more detailed. Something that might tell me what I'm doing or not doing so I can get rid of the skipping, squeeks, pops, and the music that just stops 10 seconds into the song.
I'll keep reading this board and see if there's a clue I can get.

What Nero don't tell you in the manual or website or anywhere else on the web is that there is an inf file on the CD inside Nero55\Nero\Misc\NeroCD2k.inf. Right click this and install then reboot.
nero vcd-nrg woes
when i try to convert a vcd to nrg format for burning, it shows 2-3 nrg per disc of vcd. is this ok, if so in what order do i burn them.

Has anyone encountered problems with Nero 55.. deleting winsock after a cd burn? Twice this has happened and Explorer kept causing illegal errors as a result.

I had theie InCD program completely corrupt the system. I was getting the blue screen of death and everything. Now I can't even access the CD drives through MS at all. I have to copy a CD
to am image file and then mount it with their

Win 2000 & Nero vrs EZ CD
I got a Dell a few months back and it came loaded with Roxio's EZ CD (4.02). I have had problems performing full CD to CD burns, or even saving single track to my hard drive, without getting some popping, skipping, "scratched" files...Bottom line is the quality is poor. A dell I had last year with the same version of EX CD had no problems - and it was running Win ME. I need to resolve this, but I didn't want to just run out and pay $90+ for the 5.0 Platinum version of EZ CD Creator without checking into alternatives. A friend at work recommended Nero, and I'd like some feedback from anyone who's experienced my problem, and if Nero came through for them on a WIN 2000 machine. TIA

This is funny but at the same time not funny at all. The reason I came across your question is I had a cd burner installed in my computer and they used nero 5.5 software. I am having the same problem, as I have used Roxio's ez cd creator I knew I could get pictures from my floppies and put them on a cd. No such luck with Nero. They came and got computer to check it out and I had forgetton a cd in the tray, they told me I was using the wrong cd's for music and that is what was wrong. Good answer, if I was trying to record music. I have been reading on all the software out there and any messages from people that have had problems I found a site yesterday that I lost, it said you couldn't do what we were trying to do. Great that's the basic reason I got the cd burner. So now I'm looking for it again to print and take to computer place so we can get something done. I believed that some junk software install junk,old important file or when you uninstalled the junk program it remove some useful file cause this installation problem.20 minits ago I even can not open cd-r or cr-rw.

I've installed a NR7800b 16/10/40 cd-rw. My cd burner is performing every other task except burning a disc. the drive is not recognizing blank discs when prompted to insert these discs after copying to hard drive. i tried various brands of discs but to no avail. i am using nero burning rom 5.0.

I have experienced the same problems with my 7800b.Got nero 5.0 and it didnt work,i have tried all other software and there is always the same resoult. It is acting like a ordinary cd-rom.
the software cant detect cdrw drive,only image recorder which is the same like Im using ordinary cd rom.
If someone know anythyng about this please let me know.

How do you normalize mp3's that vary in volume of sound? I don't get the maximize feature. Is there something that can just take the average sound of all your music and raise and lower all the rest? I've yet to see a program that does a good job of this...thanks

I saw this function on NREO and I have been trying to do this now for a week. I've got 100's of CD to make and thought it would be great if I could just buy another CD burner and use both.
I bought a Plextor 24X and already had a sony 12x. (I dont know if i was suppose to have 2 of the exact same recorders.???) Anyhow. I just plugged it into the 1 last ide spot on my cable and fired it up! It would burn them seemingly fine until after the plextor ended at 100% the sony would stop at 99% and give me an error leaving me with a shiny coaster... :( I then rememberd how I read something saying with 2 burners on the same contoller you could only copy at 8x and since I was out of room with my current controller anyhow I bought a Promise TX100 Ultra UDMA.. NOW! I cant even get to 1% with the sony. at 12x before it buffer underruns me... bummer
PLEASE HELP, ANYONE!!!
My machine should be pleanty fast - p3 38megs ram 7200rpm ultra ata drive...

I used to be able to test and then burn as a burning perameter (comes up using the wizard); but now the option shows up, but I can't click on it. How do I change it back?

I intalled a creative cdrw 8438E last april. it operated favourably when i was using windows 98 2nd edition. i have since installed windows me. my cd burner is performing every other task except burning a disc. the drive is not recognizing blank discs when prompted to insert these discs after copying to hard drive. i tried various brands of discs but to no avail. i am using nero burning rom 5.0 and cd creator 5.0.
please help/advise.

i am having the same exact problem as you. and i have no idea how to fix it. i am so frustrated. SOMETIMES a CD-R will be recognized but the burn process still fails. i am so mad right now at this thing. i spent all this money for nothing.

I am experiencing the same problem. I am running it under Win2K. Spent the whole weekend trying to solve it and just realized that that I got a 8438E in a 8432 package. Called Creative, was on hold for 30 minutes and since I was using my cell phone I could not hold any longer. I will give them a call tomorrow.

I know that feeling, mine really gave up the ghost when I installed Windows XP. I've already had a replacement from creative but that was faulty aswell. They're supposed to be sending another but I don't hold out much hope...if this next one is useless I'm going to have a bit of shout and scream at them and see whether I can get an upgrade. Good Luck

Is it possible to...
Burn DVD's from say .avi format or even .mpg format for use in a DVD player? I am new to the whole movie burning thing so im sure some of you might find that a stupid question.

Yes, it can. Go to GameCopyWorld at http://gcw.abs-x.com/games/gcw.shtml and search for your game. I had to change almost every setting and burn at 1x, but it worked.
