Personally, (and I, too, have one of these) I think that the whole CDR/RW is a piece of junk. I recorded probably less than 50 CDs with no problems at all, other than trying to cram more MB on a disk than it could hold. Big files, lots and lots of little files, you name it. I mixed audio with data, all kinds of things. Gradually, I began to notice that it was NOT performing up to it's normal standard. I didn't expect it to wear out before the computer did! My first BAD experiences was with the RWs. Boy that was great! Unlimited 550MB storage disks that kicked the ZIP drives ass all over! Next thing you know, it starts hanging up my system in an endless loop that can only be stopped with a power off. Needless to say I grew very tired of that, but the good thing was it would still give me perfect CD-Rs. It also destroyed what data I DID have on my RWs. I tried cleaning it (carefully), and that had no effect. Now it just functions as a second CD-ROM player. Hate it..

Re: Help! CDD 3610 and NERO problem
: : Hi,
Same thing happens to mine, but it does not limit itself to Nero. Screws up the computer with any CD burn software. Only a power down will restore the computer to normal if you get the disk out while it is booting up.
Looks more like a drive problem more than anything else.
Works fine as a reader.
I'm off to by a new one. Probably not a Philips, even if they invented the technology!!!!!!

Re: Help! Could not perform Fixation- NERO problem
I am getting the same error and have gone thru many disks. I am only writing data(or trying too). I use BTC4012 and Nero 5.5.9.16
It had been working fine for a while
It seems some other programs I have installed have made virtual drives and one is also a CDRW
so I have two (one Physical)
Hope you find out your problem and maybe could let me know Thanks

Re: Help! Could not perform Fixation- NERO problem
I have just bought a cd-burner 48x24x48x and still have my old 32x4x8x.
i have experienced the problem you have described but only when I simulate and then burn.
It only aborts after the simulation and before the actual burn.
If I uncheck simulate and just burn it straight-up, it works fine and have had no probs yet (cross fingers).
I am using nero 5.5.9.14 and have just set up my PC to use my burners to their maximum efficiency.
Maybe try slowing the burn speed down, or maybe you will have to look into doing some hardware changes (ie. do you have an 80 pin IDE cable, are your BIOS setting correct, are you windows config sttings correct.)
Have a play around see how you go, if I find out anything I will reply again.
Have fun :)

Toshiba DVD ROM SD-R1002 and NERO problem
Hi,
I have a Toshiba DVD ROM SD-R1002 combined CD writer and DVD ROM drive and I’m getting the same problems as Inigo when I try to burn CDs at any speed (command sequence error, could not perform fixation, burn process failed)
I have Nero 5.5.9.14 and Windows 98 Second Edition.
I’ve tried following Etan’s instructions but can’t seem to find the dialogues that are being referred to. When I right click on My Computer I get 4 tabs: general, device manager, hardware profiles and performance.
Under the device manager tab, there is no listing for IDEATA/ATAPI controllers, the closest I can get is an option for CD ROM drives.
The settings and the settings tab for my CD ROM are:
Disconnect – checked
Sync data transfer - unchecked
Auto insert notification – checked
Removable – greyed out
Int 13 unit – greyed out
DMA - checked
Am I looking in the right place and does anyone know what settings I’ve got to change and to what?
Thanks,
Tony

Dear people,
CDD3610 is a strange thing. I have firmware 3.09.
All those messages are gone when I open the device, clear the lens and put lithium cream (for cars)to all moving parts inside. It smells but it works. I had to repeat the process every two month.

Nero Wave Editor / NT trouble
I am running Windows NT 4.0 Workstation with Service Pack 6a. I have a new Yamaha CRW3200 drive and Nero 5.5.5.1 that came with it. My trouble is that after a few editing steps with Wave Edit, I get an Exception: Access violation (0xc0000005), Address:0x10018f89 and Wave Edit is aborted. Has anyone else experienced this? Can anyone offer a suggestion as to what's wrong. The other parts of Nero seem to be working fine. And Wave Edit seems to work fine for a short time.

: Yeah i got this message when trying to burn mp3's whitch were turned into wav. format and then make an audio CD. it's Strange because I have succesfully burned many audio cd's or turned mp3's into wave-format and so on. Can anyone help me??
I had the same exact problem, but with every CD I tried to burn, no matter what was on it, or how much info I wanted to burn.
The way I fixed it was this:
I'm using Windows XP, which has it's own internal burning-program for data-cd's. If you right-click your CD-RW drive in explorer, you can choose to turn of the possibility of writing with this disc using the windows-burning engine.
This immediately fixed all my problems, and now I have a ton of cd's I can use, because I've bought probably all kinds there are now, to see if the CD's were the cause of the problem :o)
Re: Medium Write Speed Error - Solution
I had this problem with a WRA-OA40 cd burner, and when I installed a firmware update the burner finally sucessfully burned files to a cd using nero 5.5 and win 2k pro. Try checking to see if your burner needs a firmware update or something along them lines.

Nero 5.5.7.2 Windows 2000Pro
Now that I have installed Windows 2000Pro, Nero won't recognize my HP 8230e full write speed of 4x. Only recognizes at 1x when I try to burn. Also shows in the Image Indicator that the cdwriter is only capable of 1x? I never had this problem before, Nero always worked perfectly.

Auch zeigen in der Bildanzeige, daß das cdwriter zu 1x nur fähig ist? Ich hatte nie dieses Problem vor, Nero, das immer tadellos bearbeitet wurde.
How do I save my changes in wave editor?
Hi – I am using Nero 5.5 updated to the latest version (5.5.7.2), which appears to be working correctly. My question applies to the wave editor function.
Basically, I am trying to use the ‘effects’ section to add reverb to my wave files. I launch the wave editor, open up the .wav file, open up the effects drop down and select ‘reverb’. This brings up a window which enables me to modify the reverb effect, choose presets etc. I can also audition the new sound, all of which works perfectly. However, when I click ‘OK’ I am then returned to the main screen showing the waveform, and the reverb I previously selected and auditioned is now gone – I am back to the unedited sound of the original .wav!
Please please PLEASE can anyone advise me on how I ‘save’ the sound with the effects saved (NB exactly the same thing happens when I try to use the ‘enhancing’ section to remove hiss etc)
Is the software malfunctioning or am I simply doing something WRONG!!!
Many thanks for any thoughts!
Cheers, Bill

Re: How do I save my changes in wave editor?
not sure whether u have a response already, but i know the prob you have and its incredibly simple. You haven't highlighted the relevant area, so that the effect is effectively useless. It is somewhat misleading given that you can preview the sound and it sounds correct before it is added.
To make sure the relevant section is selected, it will be highlighted in white, not black (unlike other wave editing progs)
Re: PROBLEM w/ Windows 2000 Pro & Nero 5.5x
in a followup to my own fix, i finally heard from nero support (i emailed every address at their site). there is a file nerosvc.exe on the program cd that needs to be copied to the nero program folder. from the command line (in the same directory as the *exe file), type
nerosvc -service [user group]
where [user group] is the user group you want to extend permission for using the cd rom burning. you'll be prompted for the admin password. Then reboot. this provides the group w/ rights and also adds the Security tab under File/Preferences in Nero. This permission still comes and goes - seems to be something with using Windows Media Player after Nero - still working on it
: OS: Win XP Pro - stand alone
: Nero v 5.5.5.6 upgraded with download to v 5.5.7.2
: CD ROM: Lite-On LTR-24102b
: I also could not allow users to burn cds. I tried all of the aforementioned fixes without success. However on a whim, I reinstalled Nero v 5.5.7.2 (I didn't remove it first - just installed over itself) and succeeded in getting access for the
: users group. I think the key is modifying the security setting on the CD device (Control Panel/Admin Tools/Computer Management/Storage /Removable Storage/Libraries/[cd rom]) by right clicking the device, then Properties/Security. Be sure the
: user group of interest (e.g. USERS) has permission to "Modify" files. After this is set, then install Nero.
: : i'm using win2000 professional, and nero 5.5x, w/ TDK velocd 16/10/40.
: : i am having problems setting, or actually seeing the SECURITY tab (for user rights) under File->Properties. I just need to assign burn rights to some user(s).
: : please help. thanks in advance.
