When you burn an avi Nero must re-encode. For some reason Many avi's converted with nero are out of sync. I suggest getting TMPGEnc and use that to convert your avi's to vcd format. Then burn the vcd with nero.

If you have the serial number for your Nero 5.5, download the demo verison of Nero 5.51042 from http://www.ahead.de/en/download/nero-prog.html#download and activate with your serial number. It worked for me.
