What do you think of the new site design?
Hey all,
By now, you will have noticed Shareware Music Machine is currently getting 'renovated'. What do you think of the new software categories, visual design and navigation?
Cheers
Geoff
Re: What do you think of the new site design?
Hi Geoff,
It's nice, a bit more friendly on the eye and less clusttered - more designerly, I suppose. The extended category list is marvellous, a far cry from what it was three years ago. It might be a good idea to make the music discussion group more prominent in the design, and as that other guy said, advertisements to a minimum, but I think there seems to be fewer adverts now than there were before the renovation. Anyway,m keep up the good work,
Cheers,
Simon O' Connor
Re: It kinda BLOWS!
Well this site could be a lot better it has no non-bias reviews and it just links to all the products like a giant advertisement the decent area is the discussion sorry I think you need a new site design with REAL content no just a bunch of click thoughs to other people commercial sites just saying it like it is. It has no tutorials nothing :( boring You should have a music section hopefully not with not a lot of ads and real content
playboy-banner looks very cool...
hi geoff
I'm mainly looking for software on your site and
now I can find things much faster than before.
the categories are great!

OK, when I download some of these programs I get a file that boots Microsoft word when I click on it. What gives? What am I doing wrong? Any assistance much appreciated.
Re: Need assistance downloading
Hello,
What programs are you trying to download? Email me personally if you want and I'll see if I can help you out.

This is an easy one!!!
I'm looking for a small, simple, QUICK LOADING, .wav player. It doesn't have to do anything but playback .wav files. I'm looking for an easy way to browse thru my samples without having to have a full blown player load.
try OLI!WAV. you can get it from me...
oli!wav even hasn't a gui, so you double-click
on a wave-file and hear it.

Here's something to do the job - AudioSampler v1.1 for Windows 3.1
USE THIS ONE INSTEAD - Re: This is an easy one!!!

What's the best software for burning MP3's on CD??
Is there a download?
Re: What's the best software for burning MP3's on CD??
I find "HP My CD" the best software for burning any type of CD, whether it be data or audio. I've tried Hotburn, Adaptec, Nero, Musicmatch Jukebox, Winamp, Soundforge, and Etch 24. The two best by far are "Musicmatch Juke Box". Which is available for download and is not only great for CD burning, but for ripping as well. You can create the best sounding MP3's I've ever heard. Sounds better than the actual CD. And there is "HP MY CD" which as far as I know is only compatable with Hewlett Packard burners, but by far exceeds all other software. I hope this information will save you the trouble I went through when I was tryin to choose my cd burning software. All the best from "St.John's, Newfoundland, Canada."

How do I add tracks to wav file
I have a large wave file (from a live concert) with only one track for all the songs. Can you please advise best way to break up file so each song has own track, prior to burning cd? I did not see this option in winamp. Thanks in advance for your help.

RE: You have to save each song as an individual wave file so they will be separate tracks on the CD.
Select a song by dragging the mouse over the wave in the window. The tricky part is you have to find exactly where each song ends and begins.
When you have a song selected, Cut and paste as a new selction, then save under the name of the track.-Dorian Blues
Re: How do I add tracks to wav file
Hello there,
Dorian is right. But what software should you use? Try Cool Edit.
Cheers

Re: Sb16 midi out
ich versteh jetzt net so ganz, wo das problem
liegt. spielst du samples per keyboard ab?
generelles setup:
keyboard midi out -> SB midi in
SB midi out -> keyboard midi in
dann hörst du auf jeden fall dein keyboard. aber
was meinst du damit, "cubase kriegt die daten und
die SB spielt es?"
beschreib ma genauer...

Ripping from Cassette
Is it possible to rip songs from a cassette directly to an MP3? I know I can record it as a wav, then convert it to MP3. But, I want to do this all at once. Is there a program that will take it straight from the tape and convert it directly to an MP3?
Re: Ripping from Cassette
I only am aware of soundforge 4.5c with mp3 support:
You record and then you save as mp3.
I think that the same goes for wavelab with external conversion.
MIC: how to get soundforge mp3 support?
I think you're talking about a plug-in, right?
where can I get it?
greets,
sniffa

I would give you links but I found that CCS killed
them yesterday. :-(

Help
Help!! I'm software and computer "illiterate" ! I need to know if I can compose music on my computer without a midi keyboard and, if so, will it sound like instruments or like a casio kid's keyboard. I would like to spend my cash wisely and I've been told I need to have at least a Roland XP 30 to write and do "pre-studio" music. What can I do and do I even need the keyboard to print out or play the music I'd like to write?
you even don't need a midi-keyboard...
if you just want to make some melodies or some
music that hasn't to have studio-quality try a
tracker-program like Fast Tracker 2 or Impulse
Tracker. tracker-programs use (wav-)samples as
instruments and you can play them on your
computer-keyboard like a synth. Fast Tracker 2
is shareware and Impulse Tracker is free. just
look around at www.hornet.org or www.maz-sound.com.
there are lots of free trackers to find...

sending MIDI data to a PC...
Hello,
please can you tell me how to send a MIDI sequence from my MC-303 Groovebox to my PC? In fact, I'd like to send, by MIDI connection, Track by Track a musical sequence (for example a playing Bassline)from the MC to Quartzaudio Master (a multitrack as Cubase).
It will avoid me to re-record track after track all the MC-303 track's Patterns directly in QuartzAudio Master.
Thanks for help

Check your manual, if your device can do MIDI dumps, if so do it! If not: try to get an editor for your device which can reqeust a MIDI dump

Virtual Midi over lan
Hi
Is there any software available, that would provide virtual midi ports, like Hubis, that can be used to connect sequencers and synths, running on different pc's, over a lan, without having to use physical midi cables.
What I want to do is have a sequencer (VST) running on 1 pc, controlling a synth (say Reaktor) on another, communicating via virtual midi ports on each machine, using the ethernet lan to transfer the data. So as not to actually require any physical midi hardware.
Anyone know if this is possible?

in the past i worked with a progamm that do midi over a serial port. it was faster than midi.

it is possible, but who is the programmer, who do it ?

Re: Virtual Midi over lan
Don't know much, but I'm looking for the same thing.
I haven't figured out how yet but it seems that a protocol called RMCP is supposed to do just that.
Check out the address below and tell me what you think
Thanks,

Re: Virtual Midi over lan
Or MidiViaNet.
Same applies, tell me if you get it to work or not.
Re: Virtual Midi over lan
YES! This is the ultimate app. You can control Virtual Synths on PC's from MAC or Linux boxes. And with Bluetooth you could have Wearable midi controllers. Let me know if you guys see this app. It shouldnt be that hard to program. A sound card is essentially an ethernet card for midi...think about it.
