what is the best software midi keyboard. I want to add a brass section to a song but I want to record the section on a software midi keyboard and convert it to a wave. Thanks.

Step-Entry Blues?

Hey all. I wonder if anyone can recommend a good pro-audio program for someone who prefers to do a lot of step-entry, and then add real-time components after the fact. I know, all programs offer this functionality, but most of them seem to have extremely awkward step-entry routines. I used an older program "Master Tracks Pro5-6" for a long while which had handy step-entry functions.. something similar, with a non-nauseating piano roll step-edit function is what I want. I've looked over CuBase and not even seen a piano roll, and over Cakewalk which has a noxious-looking version.. any tips, folks? Please email me directly - teknoboy@nwlink.com if you have them since I am unlikely to catch a response here.

Anyone using Yamaha MU10XG Tone Generator with Laptop PC?

Before shelling out $200+ for Yamaha's MU10XG Tone Generator to use with my Dell laptop PC, has anyone had any negative experiences with this connection? Supposedly the keyboard connects to the tone generator which connects to the PC. I need this MIDI link-up to interface with Musicware Piano software. Thnaks from a newbie ...your site looks great ..I'll read and learn alot from you all.

I don't know if there are tutorials for rebirth
but you could search for a TB-303 manual at
roland's homepage. should be located at
www.rolandcorp.com
otherwise I only know the german site:
www.rolandmusik.de

but you could also ask some people here if you
have questions. rebirth isn't as complicated as
you may think.

vinyl record to cd conversion

How do I covert a vinyl recording into a cd format
that will play on a conventional hifi system.
Not MP3 format - that's ok for the pc, but not the hifi.

Someone said save it in .avi format and the cd player
will play it?

you'll have to record your song as WAVe-file (or
as MP3 and convert it to WAVe) and then you'll be
able to BURN it on cd. there's no format that
can be read with "normal" cd-players. they ONLY
read AUDIO-CDs.
some even have problems with reading burned CDs.

i'm aware of certain ra to wav cnvertors, but they all involve recording as opposed to converting (as far as i can tell). are there any programs which aren't 'real time'? programs which convert realaudio to wav in a few seconds? Thanks, Tom

maybe you could look for a RA-player-plug-in to
save files as WAVe. or you may download the
RealAudio-plug-in for WinAmp and another plug-in
to save files as WAVe.
I'm not quite sure but it should be possible.

Logic +Unity/Retro

Same old problem, new App. When I start Logic 4.04, the Unity and Retro engines start to load and everything goes to h@#l. If I disable these two drivers in WINDOWS, everything works fine. What I would rather do is change the setting in LOGIC that loads these engines (as I do with Cubase). If any one knows if (and where) this setting is hidden, any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

it's a light version of cubase.

MIDI IN and the synths' MIDI IN into the pcs'
MIDI OUT.

The sound card doesn't have midi ports, that's why I'm confused! The sound card has a plug that would *receive* a plug with two rows of pins (one row = 6 pins, next row = 7 pins) In other words, the receiver has 14 holes.

This is nothing like the normal midi IN and OUT & the MIDI leads I currently have, which I used with my old computer (ATARI 1040 ST).

You need a simple midi interface that will connect to the game port of your soundcard. They sell these at most of the music stores or computer stores.

depends on the micro you use for recording. any
software should record in the quality you have
chosen. but why do you want to record music with
a mic?
however, you'll need a professional mic and a
mixer or amplifier with a mic-input.
