Can you give us more information on this please. I'm trying to use a 128Mb card but with no joy - can't run the programs on windows 2000! they say they are designed only for win95/98. Can you help.

Hmm how odd. When I used the old rio stuff in 98 along with music match, I was one day saddend that my internal and external ram went bad (Started having bad sectors and wouldnt play right) Rio Diag showed this. ANYWAYS I formatted with rio institute and using win 2000. BOOM all of a sudden its working again, (Played without errors) Like WTF! Anyways wondering if this was a Music match error, 64kbps error or WHA? Anyone get some insight on these?

Rio 500 wont start up

After adding tracks on to my player the lcd display just went black. The only way to turn it off is to take the batteries out and when i put them back in again i get the same black screen. The player is no longer recognised as being connected by audio manager.

I there a way to reset the player?

Check out Rio's webpage: riohome.com, clicking on "support," then "rio" then "legacy rio products" then "rio 500 pc." under "firmware," there's a restoration program "rio 500 recover utility" that should fix the problem, which is a persistent gray screen (or black screen) or checkerboard.

this likely happened while trying to transfer mp3s when the battery went dead. hope this helps.

Rio 500 & Windows XP IT WORKS!!!

Those who have windows xp

1) Disconnect Rio 500

2) Download and install following driver:

http://www3.rioport.com/Software/3/010125a_RioSupport_All.exe

3) Download Rioport Audio Manager (English Version):

http://www3.rioport.com/Software/3/001212a_HS33_RioPort_E.exe

4) Restart your PC only after you download and install both

5) Plug your Rio 500 into an USB port and turn it ON

6) Start Rioport Audio Manager and ROLL :)

It's EZ like that. Software is easy to figure out

What I meant to say is musicmatch offers a free jukebox player that runs on XP. This software is capable of downloading files to several portable players including my Rio 500

Hey you know how on Audio Manager you can compress files, so you can like put 16 songs on the 32 MB internal card for the PMP300. i would like to know if there was anyway to compress files using RIOsitude 3.11 Thanks

I found by trial-and-error (and liberal return policies!) that the Diamond Rio PMP300 will accept up to a 32 Mb SmartMedia card. I tried 64 and 128 Mb (optimist!) but neither was recognized by the Rio 300 unit itself or by the software (rioport v.3.2).

Connecting to PMP300 on Windows ME?

I am trying to get my old Rio PMP300 to work on my new PC with Windows ME, but nothing seems to be able to connect to the device.

The standard Rio software (versions 1.00 and 1.01) fails to detect the Rio, as does RIOsitude. RioShell and Dreaming of Brazil appear to connect, but show the capacity as zero (Dreaming reports "Rio looks strange" when clicking on hardware info).

The Rio itself works fine and still plays the songs I last uploaded when using Windows 98, but I can no longer update it!

Is there any way to get the PMP300 to work in Windows ME? Any advice appreciated!

The problem you explain may be prevented by ejecting any memory card you might have inserted and using RioShell. Mine works fine with that configuration. using Win ME on my 1200 mhz amd md of course the rio.... =)

I haven't found 'Drivers' per say, but I have found a program called 'RIOsitude' that works great for me on Windows XP! you find that one and more other programs at http://www.rioworld.org/rio300.htm

The program supports the Rio500 too.

I just found win 2000 driver on rioport. I too am looking for XP driver for PMP300

So do I! Why does not run this rio 300 under 2000? Or- Why can not the Diomand-Company ("Rio") develop a driver for Win2000 or Xp!

I will wait 1 Month more- and then I will never by a Rio product!
