If tried several solutions to access my PMP300 with my Windows2000 Machine. After hours I found a solution that actually works now:
Download http://www.mp3mogul.com/MP3_Software/RioShell_30.exe and install it on your machine (installs a parallel port driver). Boot your PC. Now you can access your RIO with the RioShell Application or within the MusicMatch Jukebox, if you have added the normal RioPlugin for the MMJukebox.

I'm using dreaming of brazil with PMP300 on XP. Utility seems to work fine but detect RIO as 24MB(3 memory chip of 8MB) instead of 32.
Free memory is effectively 32MB and I can upload 32MB of MP3, but when I use RIO I noticed that some files are randomly cutted after few seconds of playing... I tried to inizialize memory and re-upload files, but every time about 2/3 mp3 of 10 are cutted. Is this issue connected to the wrong memory detection(24MB)? How can I solve it?

Sorry but the Rioport Audio Manager is bullshit !It's far to big and some tests show that it can destroy you smart memory cards.I had the same probs with 'dreaming of brazil' and it really pissed me of... I searched the whole internet and found only two working progz ;-)

i have the same memory problems (cut off mp3s) as you described but my the utility detects 4*8MB. i'm keen to get a solution for clean mp3s, too!

I found software that will work for rio 30 and 500 for Xp. it works great! Its on Shareware mucic machine.com and its called RIOstude. THought I'd share my knowlede as I hve been searching FOREVER for sodtware. ITs prety easy to use too! Hope it helped!

YES!!! RIO Situde is a very small program but it works just fine for the RIO 300. And I thought I was going to have to junk the thing...
