I have installed two cd r/cdrw internal drives. SONY, and RICOH. Both work ok except both cause the computer to freeze when using the abCD software to format. I have a windows 98 1st edition system. After spending 4 hours with SONY's tech rep we still have not found a solution.

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Man, I have the exact problem when installed the Ricoh 32x16x10 burner together with my Pioneer DVD drive. It freezes the screen everytime when I run a on either drive under Win98se. However, it works fine under my Win2000 server. I guess the real problem is that some Ricoh burners are not compatible with win98. For this reason, I actually abandoned my win98se operating system.

Jimmie,
Of course Nero can do this.
Open Nero,
Close the wizard (if it starts),
Click the FILE tab,
Click CD-Copy,
Close the wizard (if it starts),
In the 'Copy options' tab, select your CD-Writer and set the read speed,
In the 'Burn' tab, select the burn speed.

Remember this:
ALWAYS burn to image from your CD-Writer first when trying to create back-ups of PSX games (read speed of 2x). Then write from image to a blank CDR at 2x (or 1x if allowed).

Just a quick follow-up.
After about ten minutes of research, i found that the Phillips CDD3610 is a flawed unit.
A) Try cleaning the lens.

I have other problems but sounds the same.
When i try to burn audio CDs I try to test and burn.
The test is good, but when it start to burn cds after 20 minutes the burning session stop itself.
An error occured.

I'm going crazy.

Mi quemador es el Philips 3610.

tengo lo mismo problema con el cdd3610... en las premeras veces que eso acontecio, yo abrí la grababora y limpié las partes que hacen la lente mover-se con alcool, despues yo lubrifique esas partes... la grabadora volveu a trabajar, pero ahora yo continuo a limpiar e eso parece no funcionar más... se usted encontrar la solucion, por favor contact me.

i had the same problem with the cdd3610... in the first times that this happened, i opened the recorder and cleaned the parts that make the lens move with alchool, then after i used oil in these parts. the recorder worked again, but now this cleaning seems to be not effective anymore... if anyone knows how to solve this problem, please contact me...

Here the SOLUTION:
Open the Drive case carefully whit a screw driver.
(Thor type screws in mi recorder)TRAXDATA 2260=
equal that philips 3610.
whith a brush for lens (foto type)clean the laser
lens and all be succesfull, the recorder errors
disaper and the CD recording finished OK.

i also have the 3610 and i had the nero "calibration area full"-error

i did this... i opened the 6 case screws, then there are 4 screws inside, which hold the electronic to the housing...
then you can carefully pull out the little white plugs. i didnt sort out to pull out the flat bus, but moved the electronic to a 90° angle.

then you see the gearwheel and the axis i did both lubricate and then i kind of reassembled the whole thing, then i put in a audio cd in and switched to the last track (to make the laser move)

and then it all was ok again...

i used an awful smelling contact spray to lubricate... now my room stinks awful..
you better use a kind of silicone oil.. something fine ....

That stands to reason... CDR translated means CD READ ONLY, you cannot write to them. CDW translated means CD WRITE, you can write to them.
Hope this helps, sounds as if your CD burner is working properly....

I've had a problem finding installtion software for a CDD 3610 recently bought on E-Bay. A very nice person in the UK sent me a web site to download software.

Try going to www.cequadrat.com
It is a German site. Click on SUPPORT then ENGLISH then DOWNLOADS then
DRIVERS. Then under PRODUCER highlight PHILIPS and click SEARCH. Here you will find the driver for CDD 3610.

I suggest you upgrade to the latest version of NERO 5.0.3.8.
According to my sources, your writer is ok.
