: When I load protools, the plugins load, then it says "scanning program memory," but then it freezes when it says, "DAE loaded." Does anyone have any clues? This computer has 156 Meg RAM. Does this problem have to do with RAM or processing power?

Not sure how it works on a PC, protools may need to be uninstalled then re-installed you won't loose any of your sessions.

Protools crashing...
When I started up protools and make a new file, my computer basically instantly freezes up and reboots by itself (or just freezes and can't do anything, no altctrldel or anything)... any suggestions on how to fix this?
Weird audio import results... PT?
I am a very experienced audio editor on PC, having used Cakewalk extensively (made an entire album with it). Recently I decided to try other programs such as Cubase, Logic, and ProTools. Initially I was getting errors with all those, including Sonar, because I had also just switched to a laptop (another test), and errors were due to the lack of a reliable laptop sound card. The price of purchasing a good pcmcia card was the same as a brand new P4 w/ 256ram.
Since I got a new P4 I cannot say 100% for sure that I am not getting errors with Cubase and Logic because I have not spent enough time there. But so far these seem to work well, all of them...
EXCEPT ProTools!
Minor issues ->
*When I drag and copy a wav file, ProTools SOMETIMES creates ANOTHER wav file and SOMETIMES NOT. No rhyme or reason to this, I've tried using the 'first' file at the start of a track, to no avail. I can copy the same file twenty times and then, oops, one of these times suddenly ProTools creates another file. ??
*I can find no dedicated window for MIDI editing (unless I missed that). Instead you have to zoom on the track itself, and then un-zoom to see all your tracks again. Click click click.
*Stereo tracks are seperated onto two tracks, which is like going back to Cakewalk 6.0 in 1997, totally ridiculous for a 'pro program' in 2002.
Major issue ->
*After exporting an entire song from Sonar one wav file at a time + MIDI, I proceded to bring all of this into ProTools to reconstruct the song. MIDI was flawless. Then at first the wav files seemed also in perfect sync. Then as I continued to import more wav files and organizing them very well, about three quarters of the way, FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER ALL THE TRACKS WERE OUT OF SYNC!!
Now it would be awesome if someone had an answer to this last major problem, but I must insist I have used digital audio sequencers and editors for years (also; Cool Edit, Wavelab) and I have never run into anything this weird (without heavy processing).
ProTools FREE feels like walking on egg shells. In comparison Sonar feels like you can get rowdy and drink all you want with your buddies in the loudest of surroundings. It's the only way I can describe this. It takes a lot of messing around to screw up Cakewalk (Sonar) from my experience.
-Is it because of my new system?
-Is it because ProTools doesn't like something else installed?
-It is because of how I imported the last wav files (just 4 stereo loops)?
I actually need to work in ProTools because I have to do PC & Mac session exchanges with pro musicians who use the Mac version, but after trying ProTools a number of times I can find no alternative. I will try to post this elsewhere to see if maybe there isn't a solution.
Oh and finally, for those claiming the need for dedicated ProTools hardware, that is like saying we need a Mercedes to drive across town. Remember, THIS PROGRAM IS PROMOTED AS STANDALONE.

I*ve just downloaded ProTools free für Win98. Though i don't have 128 MB RAM and a PII it run's quite well, but the midi output doesn't work anyway. I have no problems with wave-Output but MIDI Files doesn't work though everything seems to be ok. Any Ideas?

window 98me, and try to max out you memory 256mb or higher, your processor speed will be the main factor so anything over 700mhz will do you good. if you really want to move things go with the digi001 or 002, and get a mac G4 733 to a dual 1 gig, i have the 800, and every plug-in known to man, two internal hard drives, and 1.533mb of memory, and i'm using the pro tools 5.2.1 32track beta upgrade, in other words everything is maxed out, i sometimes have problems when i get plug-in happy on every track but hey, i'm getting what i paid for, and i'm loving life, if you need my help e mail me at jefferydigi001@yahoo.com
having trouble installing
iam using Window 98, pentium 4 processor, but i can't install the pro tools both the 5Mb and the 10Mb versions. i got a message saying "installer cannot locate a valid installation of pro tools?free on this system, please install pro tools free and rerun this installer" what am i doing wrong?? So then i downloaded the demo version, but after installing the demo version, i cant even find the folder where i can get the program to start! Can some one please give me some advise??

i aasume that you are using a pc..........if you dont mind loosing your song files, you can always start from scrach by rebooting your entire system, and then reinstall pro tools from a to z, the second option is to delete all installations of pro tools "only" then reinstall it, also before you install it try defragmenting your hard drives, and then checking to see if your computer has the required memory to opperate pro tools, and if you are using plugins, you'll need even more memory to opperate the DAE,and Pro tools. if all fails, BUY A MAC G4 MANNNNNNNNNNNNN.

record button for stereo AUX input?
why is there no record button? they only tracks that have the record button for me are the midi tracks. but i want to record an audio track from my line in.

You record to audio tracks, not aux tracks. Aux tracks are for bringing up effects and midi sounds & such.

Look at all you fools pulling yourselves off over a peice of over rated recording software as long as there are sheep like you lot singing the praises of this over priced and over rated software that none of you will even get to look at let alone own the full version the developers will cotinue to keep the price up.
There is other software that would shit all over pro tools with the right i/o card and cubase 32 or similar prog you can create just as good a product for a fraction of the cost.
If you expect one peice of software to make you sound better because of its price your a fool.

i'm living proof that cubase VST32, cakewalk, emagic, and all the other wannabes dont cut it, you can mix, and match all the cheep softwear, and expensive sound cards together until the end of time, and never have the sound quility that you want, the vst32 is cool i have it somewhere in a box in my garage under some other boxes full of old shoes. my only gripe at one point, and time about the tool box xp, and digi001 was the 24 minimum, but now digidesign is giving the full 32 track version download away for free online to registered owners, all the other companies out there give you more tracks but it will beat your computer down trying to use them, and if the program is basic, expect the plugins to sound basic, i'm not trying to sell pro tools to anyone but they do offer a free 8 track version, so if you will try it! and see for yourself, and if you like it i'm sure that soon you'll love it, i think that it's totally wrong for anyone to be called a fould for buying what they want so my final word is for "bull" calling all of us fouls.....yo punk ass mama bitch!!!!!!

this program looks really cool, but when i try to record audio it says, "could not allocate space for recording" ive got 500Mb left on my HD do i need more free or is it a different problem? help!
