Re: wav file to CDDA (burning a audio CD)

: When I burn a CD (Audio format, CDDA) from a wav file(wav file recorded
: using sound card, recording from LP) I'm losing high tones and dynamics.
: The resulting CD sounds "flatter" than the original wav file recording
: (44,1 kHz, 16 bits, stereo, PCM format). Can anyone
: explain what is going wrong here??
: Also I noticed the following:
: CDDA to wav file (digital audio extraction), high tones and dynamics are enhanced
: (sounds terrible in comparison to origianal CD).
: Going back from wav file to CD sound is restored and sounds the same as
: the original CD.
: I have used different recording software e.g Adaptec easy CD creator/Gear
: audio & cool edit 96, all with the same result.
: Can anyone explain this phenomenen, thanks in advance!!

What type of media are you using?
if using generic, try switching to a higher end GOLD cd-r.
also try normalizing the .wav file (music only)
hope it helps

Yes I can explain. When audio cd's first came out the people who were used to the sound of vinel noticed a loss of high tones as you put it. This is true on all audio cd's. The recording methed they use can not record over a certain frequency so they is a loss of high tones. That is the trade off. Cd or vinel? Cd's are smaller. people took to cd's. So in closeing, put up with it, we have no choice. Cd's are here to stay even though they lose the high end of the sound spectrum. Oh, and there is really nothing you can do about it. Sorry. :)

I'm using Philips Gold/Gold CD-R. Normalizing the
.wav file doesn't help either!!

Don't concentrate on getting a clean burn if you can't even rip a clean wav file.
I have used winoncd to burn a direct copy of an audio cd without any problem.
I use audiograbber to rip individual tracks, soundforge to edit wav files, and winoncd
to burn. Try switching between sampling (recording) and ripping tracks. See if you get
different results. The type of media won't make much of a difference. You probably don't
need to normalize if you rip tracks (most cd's are set to similar specs.) Try playing
audio CD you create in a stereo entirely separate from your computer and see how it sounds.
That's about all I can think of with the information you gave. Hope you can figure it out.

Digital Audio Extraction problem

I've downloaded MusicMatch MP3 software. I'm trying to extract song files from a CD. The software says that my CD-ROM appears not to support Digital Audio Extraction. However, the manufacturer says that model, CyberDrive 32X, does support Digital Audio Extraction. What can I do to determine whether the digital outs on my CD-Rom is fautly, or whether the Digital Audio in on the motherboard is bad. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks. My e-mail address is mpompey@gte.net

WIn98, VST 3.5/3.6, SoundBlaster Live & SoundFont

I Have SoundBlaster LIVE and Cubase VST. With my old AWE64GOLD all soundfonts I load in the card appeared in VST too, but the same is not true with SoundBlaster Live... So I can not select patch names/ song names with VST/SBLive.
Any Help?

Yeah, i have the same problem, but here's my solution,
Wav synth in sound font= 0-127 Bank ( VST)
bank 1 = 127- 234.... and so on
hope this helps

Thank you, dear MIP!
Few days after posting this message to this msg board, I imagine such a connectivity between the number of banks and VST banks. In some way, this can be a temporary solution until someone (or even steinberg, but I can't belive this) write down some .dev file (as you may know, this are descriptive files for using studio equipment, even if it's in the PC). I need a .dev file (in VST known as StudioModule file) because of a need of much more precise control over the SBLive, as, for example, viewing and editing of banks (and their names, of course) from within VST. Such file can be developed by DMaker, a program that you can find in your VST's CD in his root ('\') directory. For doing this, you should have deepest knowledge about MIDI, SysEx-es, SoundFonts, VST and SBLive. There are some examples in same directory, so if someone knows the little differences about programming AWE32 and SBlive should succeed.

Hope, peace and favourite music to you,
Sincerely yours,
ShavyDog.

Cool edit pro recording problem

I have cool edit pro 1.1 an was doing a recording from the radio as many times before. I now had a breakdown on the computer. The CEP 1.1 should be able to restore a ongoing recording on a breakdown. The next time i started CEP 1.1 it came up with a box that said, will you restore the unfinish file, an i said yes. It then restore the recorded file (1.8MB)everythin looked okay by there was no music. only a 1.8mb long loud screming sound. Is there anybody who knows haw to restore the music or if the file is koruptet = delete it. I don't know what to do with.
