That is sad ! There is no store with guillemot sound cards in Czech republic, where I'm from.

Cubase VST Score; Laptop Audio Card

Running VST Score 3.6 on NEC Latop. Multi Record input split does not work correctly in 3.553 and 3.6. Works fine in 3.05. So I bought a new computer, (NEC 6260 Laptop), but it has an ESS Audio Drive, Sound blaster Pro compatible built in. Cubase VST won't launch. Steinberg Tech Support is worthless!! Does anyone know of a substitute driver to use or a work around?? I don't want to part with the computer.

Download the oldest available ESS1879 driver
w/o Wavetable Emulation - and things should work fine !

I do not see why VST would`t be working with AudioDrive - I saw lot machines that works fine (for that money).

Cool Edit Pro 1.1 has a good one. It samples just the
tape noise (leave some blank space) and then will
remove the noise.

can't get Cubase 3.05 XT Audio to play files through my AWE 64 soundcard (or give me a MIDI OUT option), even though it works perfectly with other applications. The outputs are blank until I click on them and they then display 'MROS' which can't be unselected.

Hey I'm just starting, and I bought myself a PC and the guy at Tom Lee told me to buy the DMAN 2044. So Isank the last of My hard earned cash into it. Tell me is this thing junk? Should I just grin and bear it. Anyway my real question is what's my next step? What do you advise is the software to run with this thing. I want a software driven system (NO MIDI INTERFACE ON THE DAMN MIDIMAN. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Midi to wav works

Hallo,

I´m trying to hear Midi-files on usual CD-Player. Especially classical
piano-musik or organ-musik is sometimes better than than original.

First I have to create wave-files from the midifiles.

I tried to render the midi-files with wavemaker, it works,
but to have all instrument-sounds, you habe to buy the
program with CD (about 50 Dollars).

Then I tried it with audio compositor. You need a soundbank in
sf2-Format, which does not use ROM from the soundcard. I found a good
one in the internet.
The midi-rendering worked, but the wave file sounded much worse then
the sound when playing the midifiles with the wavetablesounds
of my soundcard (Terratec maestro).

Perhaps it is easier to record the Midifile from the amplifier of
the soundcard on tape or Minidisk and then record it back to the
computer.

Has anybody a better idea?

Try a program called Wingroove - It is essentially a software midi wavetable simulator (and an excellent one at that) But is also have a very simple & effecient midi filt to wave converter. Provided you have a decent soundcard & a reasonable processor speed, I'm sure you'll find this more than adequate for what you require

you can convert any .IT file to .wav format in Impulse tracker through a VERY simple process... lay out what you want to convert to .wav, save it... and then when you load up impulse tracker, do it through dos, adding the command /s20... <it /s20> then load up the file and hit F5... this will out it to wav, saving it to the filename it was before, with a wav extension.

I've developed a web page with audio files on it. I have a text file with a .m3u extention. This file specifies the location of the .mp3 file so it can stream it. This file is called from my main page. When I try it, the winamp player comes up but the file doesn't play.

WinAmp will do it. It's buried in the Options menu, like so:
Options, Preferences, (Change window to) Output, Output Device,
(change this from your soundcard to) .WAV file output (silent).
Remember what it was so you can change it back to listen to MP#s.

I don't know if such a program, (converting directly "SON" to "MID") does exist; in that case
it would be useful to me too!
But there are at least 3 solutions:
1) You (or someone you know) still have Atari and Notator: in that case it is rather easy.
Notator can save "MID" files (export); but it saves only ONE PATTERN! Also you have to
copy all the used Patterns into the same one (Menu: "Copy"; "Arrange to Pattern"). Limit:
hopefully you didn't have 2 or 3 Patterns running at the same time in the Arrange window.
In that case you should rearrange the whole song, and it may be rather long, or impossible...!
2) You (or someone you know) have now Notator Logic (Logic audio, or any other sequencing program
from Emagic) running on PC; it's normally working with "LOG" files, it may import and
export "SON" and "MID" as well. Same limits as above...
3) I may help you: I still have Notator and an old Atari somewhere in a garret; I do the job for you
with pleasure (if there aren't too many difficulties as explained at 1). Limit: I would'nt have
time for hundreds of files; but if you wish, let's try: send me one or some "SON" files, I'll
try to "translate" and send you back.
