I am trying to acheive a certain background effect produced by reversing some sounds I recorded in the Andes last summer. I used a cassett recorder. I would like to transfer them to the computer and reverse the sound with goldwave. I use my computer for word processing and emailing. This is all new to me. Can any one please advise me.

Distortion using Gold wave

I make recordings from piano and voice using low impedance mic. I add organ
with direct connection. Goldwave works very well for me.The CDs I make sound great
to my ears (I'm kind of old) but my younger friends say that there is distortion. This
happens even from the files where I keep the P-P level down to less than 1 on the
Goldwave graph. (2 is supposed to be the limit)

I have tried noise reduction but that doesn't stop the problem.

Any suggestions?

Maybe the level of recording is very loud: although the P-P level is less than 2, maybe your wave have trimed peaks (the wave is right, straight at the peaks, it isn't curve). Use a great zoom (Shift+Up keys) and look the peaks of the wave. Possible solution: record at less level and later maximize volume with Effects->Volume->Maximize or Effects->Volume->Change. Other solution: record as always, and use a filter to make disappear the distorsion. Maybe it is difficult to find the frequency of distorsion; this is a tip for it: Select a part of the file with distorsion (1 or 2 seconds) and use Effects->Filter->Noise reduction; there you can see a spectrum: you can find the frequency that produces distorsion (use the Help button to understand it). Now you have two ways: 1. Use Noise reduction with Current spectrum or 2.Close the Noise reduction dialog and use Filter->Bandpass/stop with the options Bandstop, Static and setting the Frecuency range that you finded out at the Noise reduction spectrum. help with pops/clicks

i have a serious problems with digital pops, clicks, and skips when recording wav files. it doesn't matter what sound editor i'm using; they're always there. this is a brand new computer, so i don't really know what the problem is. could someone (or everyone) give me a comprehensive list of ways to stop these clicks from happening? i can't get rid of more than half of them using a pop/click filter and it's annoying the hell outta me.

In some cases, this is due to inferior software. We use Goldwave for professional broadcast production and find it excellent in this regard.
But, with any audio recording/editing, especially WAV files, it's important to remember that large amounts of the computer's resources are required
for satisfactory results. Assuming your system is at least a 200 MHz Pentium with 128 MB RAM or better, you should be able to eliminate the pops/clicks by:

(1) Disable screen saver and terminate any other programs before running an audio recording session;
(2) Increase the Record Buffer Value in Goldwave;
(3) If you use disk compression, disable it;
(4) Specify fixed Virtual Memory min. and max. limits of 64 MB;
(5) If you have two hard drives, specify Goldwave's Temporary Storage Folder in a different drive than your
the C:\ drive;
(6) Experiment between RAM and Disk Storage in Goldwave to see which produces the best results on your system.
