yer thats same with me.... at the moment, my matshita cw-7585 is only being recognised as a cd-rom, not a burner. i need the device drivers to regonise it as a burner if neone can help. I found 1 at the panasonic home page. www.panasonic.com , but i am not sure how to install it... any one help?

You dont really need the software if you're installing the bare drive. All I did was set jumper to slave and connect it to the primary IDE slot and it auto detected/installed the drivers upon booting Windows. To burn, you need Adaptec Easy CD Creator, Nero Burning Rom, etc. That's it.

That normally crashes my comp. WIndows ME 384MB Ram Duron 800 Mhz. Having twerrible problems burning a data file!

Version 4.02e does and you can download free from Roxio (A spin off from Adaptec)

Actually the latest version of CDR-Win DOES support it. I use it myself. But make sure you don't try using it with a stolen serial number or it will burn coasters (NAsty protection eh?) I know it's a pain using 1x. Don't like it.. Register it. ;)

Another excellent package is "Fuerio!".
It's a lot more advanced than CDR-Win and even tells you who made your CDR. ( It helped me find no-name TDK-80Mins for a STEAL! (: )

Currently I use Ahead's Nero and it "seems" to work ok with this CD writer, BUT, I have come across many Clone CD image files CCD that Nero can't do properly. So I tried Clone CD and it failed miscerably. Half the times it detects the writer as just ordinary CDROM, while rest of the time it can't burn successfully and crashes, sometimes taking Windows with it. I emailed Clone CD, but so far no response. It's been really difficult finding drivers for this CD writer.

Go to www.adaptec.com and download updates for your Directcd version and also Easy CD Creator they both work with drive.

I have the same CDRW, have anyone solved the problem on finding a software compatible in CDRW mode with it?
