: Protools is the most used pro editing and recording system. If you got problem with it it´s not digidesigns fault, it´s your computer!!

: I´m sorry to tell you, but you´ll need a real computer. Celeron may be good for playing games. But if you wanna do music for real you gotta get a P3700 or AMD athlon 800 or more!.

I've just recently finished a cd, completely produced at home. For editing I used cooleditpro,for the rest plugins fm cakewalk, antares, timeworks, etc. for mastering I used timeworks. It sounds great and we are even negotiating with emi. So, sure protools is great if you have the money for the hardware to go with it. If not, then those 'silly little programs' do the job anyway. So you should better climb of that mountain of yours and shut your mouth(really; good hearing, good mics and even better hearing actualy do the job!)

You show your ignorance with these comments, Eric. Many professionals use Cakewalk and Cubase. Being loyal to Protools is fine, but don't deceive people who do not know better by making ridiculously biased comments.

PT Free doesnt support digidesign hardware so you are dumb

: From most of the Messeges I've read it seems like its crashing for you guys is because you aren't using a Pentium II/III/IV based processor. Understand that there's a world of difference between Celeron, AMD's, etc, and the Pentium II/higher. Pro Tools LE and FREE experience problems working with those processors, It doesn't matter one bit that you have 1G of RAM and 1Ghz speed If its not running on a Pentium II/higher based processor.

In addition, Your CPU clock speed should be at LEAST a good 500Mhz(on a Pentium II/Higher) 1G-Better and at LEAST a good 192MB of RAM, Minimum requirements are just that, barely squeezing by with likelihood of problems.
But if You guys are really serious, you should be looking toward a Pentium IV 1.5G workstation, with a good 1G of RAM, and using the MIX line of Protools Hardware(full version of Pro Tools LE 5.0.1 software is included) But then again very few people can shell out near 6-figures(ouch!) for home recording. But hey, Its top of the line Pro-Caliber gear.
