Software Description

Please note that the development of DreamStation I has been terminated 8 years ago, therefore it may lack of features (such as plugin support) you would expect from a workstation today. If you need a more up to date host please try DreamStation II

DreamStation I is a standalone software synth workstation which consists of an analog synthesizer module, a 32 tracks step-time sequencer, dual stereo FX processor and an eight channel stereo mixer. We made DreamStation I free with the release of its more complex second version.

Up to three oscillators can be used for each voice, where every oscillator is generating sine, triangle, sawtooth, pulse (OSC2&3 square) or noise waveforms. Linear frequency modulation, ring modulation and hard synchronization are available between OSC1&2. You may replace the traditional waveforms with 16 bit mono samples, and use them as the source of ring and frequency modulation. A multimode filtering architecture is responsible for eliminating/exciting specified frequencies of the generated signal by supporting 2 pole lowpass, bandpass, highpass, 4 pole lowpass and formant filter modes. Three ADSR envelope generators (each one individual for the amplifier, filter and a user defined EG for general purpose), one LFO, vibrato and portamento are the modulation sections.

All this is controlled by the built-in 32 tracks step-time sequencer. The composer can easily track any actions/events (such as filter sweeping, retriggering, mixer programming, instrument selecting) step by step. This built-in sequencer is synchronizable to external MIDI clock.

The effects processors provides programmable effect types such as delay (mono, stereo, spatial, Ping-Pong), chorus (single, dual voice, mono, stereo), phaser (mono, spatial), flanger (mono, stereo), and reverb (room, hall, plate). Up to three different effects can be used simultaneously, two of them are linked serially and form a separate effects processor.

Just like on a real mixing console, you have eight channels which you can group any number of instruments to, controlling the pan, volume as well as individual sends to the effect blocks. The final material can be downmixed and rendered or captured into a stereo wave file, then burned directly to a CD.

DL is working

I just tried the website and the free download for DreamStation and it worked fine.

would i be able to assign a wav

would i be Able to assign a wav file with this program?????

if you know, email me

Re: would i be able to assign a wav - Of course you can

Of course you can.
You load waves into the PCM button of the ossilators.

In otherwords you can have at 3 waves assigned
to the indivdual OSC's of the 1 instrument.

This proggy handles waves brilliantly.....
You can even create sample splits where the wave
that triggered is based on the note you key

eg C4 = Sample1
D4 = Sample2 etc.. etc..

Re: would i be able to assign a wav

Nope - just "standard" analog synthesis. I use
it with CakeWalk SONAR. But there is a VSampler
(maz-tools.com) Cakewalk sells for $49 that does
just that. I tried it last night but don't really
need it. I have GigaStudio but was looking for something lightweight.

Yeah. It's pretty cool. It makes airy and weird sounds. The only way I'd compare it to Reason or fruity loops 3 is the price. Dreamstation cost about $50 and you get a whole bunch of goodies. It's worth it. I use this and rebirth and this does the job quite nicely. Don't get me wrong, Reason is a good program and I want it but the price vs. features on this thing is outstanding. :)

bIg Delay from midi controler to dream station

im getting about a one second delay from my midi keyboard to dream station but all other programes work fine

Check your soundcard settings via perferences dialog (Options/Perferences...). It is better to select DirectX driver in "Audio Driver Box". Then check "Test signal" box and move "Response time" slider to the left until you hear sound clipping. Then return it back a bit. OK, "Play ahead" must be somewhere in 20-40 ms range and you shouldn't hear any clipping. Hit "OK" and you're on the way...

well....

No midi out....

Re: well....

: No midi out....

Just use it with external sequencer like Cakewalk, it will be fine. Internal sequencer suxx anyway... DS itself outputs synth kbobs tweakings only.

Its Good Without the facking popup

Its a really intelligent synth and there's is a lot creativity hide in it. You can find by just practise and practice But it's very annoying with the upcoming popup and to buy it is nit a good option because it's too expensive

A Great Little Softsynth!!!

Judging by the demo this is a really great little softsynth!!!
Its very simple and intuitive to use and the sounds are very impressive from classic mini moogs to scorcing FM leads.
Its a really shame my computer is too bulky and fragile to take to gigs.

Hopefully the likes of DreamStation, VAZ 1.7 and SynC will enventually force the likes of Native Instruments and Seer Systems and even perhaps (as Laptops get cheaper) Clavia, Roland and Korg to drive their prices down because its a fact that you don't have to spend a lot of money to make great sounding music.

Dream Station

The only thing i hate is that i cant control volume from my midi controller on dream station. Other than that its a fun toy for the price, i guess.

better than fruity?

Hey all

just wondering how Dreamstation compares to the might of fruityloops...

it's not in the same class

last time i checked, fruity loops is simply a drumloop editing software, dreamstation is a full synthesizer with built in sequencer

it's awesome, but lacking some key features as far as i can see..such as sequencer-programmable note release values and sample volume via the sequencer, right now you can only change the volume of the track, not the actual sample

You can change the pan/volume/filter cut/res/fine tune per triggered voice. Fruity also gives you 4 envelopes (vol/filter res/cut/pitch) & 5 LFO's (pan/vol/filter cut/res/pitch) per channel.
(& the TS404 is a full synth)

Re: it's not in the same class

well it must have been a long time since you looked, cos fruity has a built in synth (ts404), full sequencer, it gives a full envelope to all samples with att, dec, cutoff, res etc , plays an unlimited number of samples together at the same time, has full midi and mp3 support and its own file format the flp kicks ass. having had checked out dreamstation now to me it looks like its good, it has a nice synth that is coparable to the ts404 or simsynth, but overall the options and ease of use let it down.

ill check it again in 6 months to see how its been improved, but until then im a fruityloops man- theres no contest coming from this software

Re: it's not in the same class

Now that Fruityloops 3 takes VST instruments (yay!) it has officially buried software like this.

Re: it's not in the same class

yep, theres no argument now- fruityloops rules

need explanations?

I'm fairly new with that kind of things...
Will that dreamstation let me do some kind of trance/techno music like we can find on mp3.com?
Where can I find the basics, theory etc... to know how to do that and to use that dreamstation?

thanks

Re: need explanations?

You connect up any keyboard with a midi-out to the soundcard of your PC and play dreamstation like a synth. Dreamstation functions like a Moog or Prophet producing all the wacky synth sounds you'd expect (this ones shithot) and is multitimbral so it can play diffent sounds simultaneously in a composition.

If you wanted to make full musical compositions you could either use the basic appegiator that comes with dreamstation or better still control it from a sequencer like Cakewalk or Cubase.

The sequencer lets you select different channels to record diffent tracks of midi performance data (like a multitrack recorder) - each channel/track can have a diffent synth sound (including drums) from dreamstation, the soundcard's own instruments and external gear. You can also record audio tracks (vocals, guitar, etc) and apply effects (eq, compression, reverb).

To produce the MP3, the sequencer lets you mix all your tracks to one track, if youre serious you may then apply some mastering effects (e.q., steroisers, ultramisers, etc) and finally encode the final output wav file with a freeware MP3 encoder.

MP3.com will let you set up a site for nothing and put up as many MP3s as you like. (if Universal don't kill it all off for their own profit and greed)

Most of what you need to make great sound music is dirt cheap and even freeware.

Recommend to get started:
Dreamstation
Cakewalk Home Studio 9
Blue Line Plugins (effects)
SCMPX MP3 encoder

I agree...

I agree, dreamstation is great. As soon as I get the money, I'll buy this.

best generator yet

Possibly the most intergrated and powerfull electronic music composer to date. Better than rebirth, I love it!
