Can anyone send me a copy of this file?
I cannot seem to download this file. Does anyone have a copy of this file, compressed, installer, or in any form that you could send on a floppy? You may be helful in saving my marriage. If I cannot save my wife's DR5 files, she may leave for someone who can!

Try www.rubicsys.demon.co.uk/paul/dr5faq.h
It's not exactly the manual, but it seems to be pretty informative on how to use the unit. I bought my DR-5 used at a pawn shop and of course they didn't have a manual for it. So, I looked and found this and it's the closest thing to a manual I could find. Hope that helpeld. Later!
Re: DR5 manual
I lost the user's manual, and I need the same to remove some mainly doubts in the MIDI way.

dr-5 program
I've created enough patterns to fill the memory on
dr-5. Do you know of a program that would let me back
up my patterns on to my PC so that I could free up my
memory and later restore some of the files that I want
to keep.
Thanks

Re: dr-5 program
Jonathan,
There are several programs around to do this kind of save/restore function. Cakewalk does a reasonable job, Dumpster and Dr5Doc.
Check out:

for the latter.

DR5 & VG8 MAC Hookup
Let me begin by stating that I am a complete MIDI novice. I am looking for the easiest & least expensive way to save the information on my Roland Boss DR-5 Dr. Rhythm Machine onto my Macintosh Performa 6400 computer. Please specify 1) What cables are needed as well as 2) what software I will need in order to transfer the info on my DR-5 to the MAC for archiving that will also allow me to transfer from the MAC to the DR-5.
Will I be able to send just the patterns and songs I want to save on the MAC or will I have to dump the shole damn thing and vica versa.
I also have a Roland VG8 COSM guitar system. I would like to upload and download patches off of the internet. Please tell me what 1) cables I will need and what software I will need in order to do this with my MAC.
OR is there a stand alone device onto which I can log all of this information?
I look forward to your advice and thank you in advance for your assistance.

guitar synth info
I have been using a BOSS DR-5 for all my sequencing as it has a guitar fretboard style interface with which I'm comfortable as I am a guitarist.
Recently I have started storing my work on a PC and am now finding that I am being limited byjust having 4 tracks as the DR-5 is 4-timbral. I am considering upgrading my equipment and would be extremely grateful if some of the tech wizards on the Net could address my doubts. I am thinking of buying a guitar synth so that I could play straight into the computer using my guitar. From my limited knowledge I gather that guitar synths are 4 timbral and I want to know if there are ones which can support 16 tracks or more.
I would not be using the synth for live playing but only for sequencing and downloading onto tape. Should I go in for a guitar synth or should I go in for a MIDI pickup and a sound module so that the combination would give me 16 or more tracks to play with. Please keep in mind that I am based in India and have to be extremely cautious with my limited budget.
Could someone please recommend the good models which would meet my needs and what the existing rates are. Thanks in advance and any help would be greatly appreciated. My e-mail address is ericsamuel@aworld.net
Re: guitar synth info
I recently bought the Roland GR-33 guitar synth. It is unbelievable!!! The in-built sounds are very good and the response to my guitar playing is excellent. It costs about £420 (English) so I don't know iof it's in your budget, but it's worth every penny. Great piano sound, lovely double bass, organ, saxophone... even a sitar!!!
DR-5 drivers for a PC
I have been using a BOSS DR5 for the last 5 years and am now using it to sequence music on my PC. Does anyone know of any software drivers for a PC which would do the job for me.Please mail me at ericsamuel@aworld.net if you know of such a resource on the web.

Re: BOSS DR5
I have not found anything specifically for the DR-5 as regards PC software. However, I am a C++ programmer, and would like to create such software for my own purposes, and would be willing to share the results. If you can wait a week or a month, let me know what functions you want, and I'll take a whack at it.

I realize this tool was made for Mac's.
