SAMPLING as in to steal! i know exactly what you want to do because i want to do it too. Take a drum beat or 1 sound out of a song and load it into your drum machine / sequencer and use it in ur own track. sounds bad but everyone does it especially if ur an amature. what you need to do is locate a program that will chop up a recording into its basic elements. now there are two ways of doing this either find a sound that is isolated record it and chop it to length, depending on the quality of equipment ie needles cables ect or the original recording quality (mp3 will sound shit straight from vinyl is best)
you can get away with wav. although still pretty poor. The other way is to use a specific program to really break down the sound then isolate what you want now this is involved and difficult and i cant remember for the life of me what the program was called so i havent been much help but what im hoping is, is that someone will read this and know what im on about.
plz help

Im guessing your over 30 right? MICROPHONES DONT COME INTO THIS what our friend wants to do is sample a track, a pre recorded piece of audio that obviously contains a paticular sound that he likes and thus want to use in his own musical creations. one thing however as you are completely right u will need a decent sound card with inputs and outputs direct into the card or any true quality will be lost (trust me ive been trying to use a laptop lol)
Now im assuming that the original poster does not have much audio equipmennt or knowlege most likely a half decent computer a midi keyboard and a copy of fl studio. so will not have a good original recording to work from or the means to transfer it. The only way to do it properly is to get a powerfull computer a real good sound card and read a book on sampling and sound synthesis also use a better program than fl try reason 4 and read the tutorial books maybey go on a course. i went on an ableton 5 day course for 550 and got free ableton software bed breakfast.
