Problem with reason (cant play 2 instruments)

i can play the first instrument on the first device that i use on reason, but for the second device i can edit the piano roll and all, but when it comes to hearing that particular instrument or set of notes from that device i cant hear it, i only hear the first device and not the second, ive tried everything i can think, ive fooled with the volumes, filters etc. and i still cant hear it, maybe its a software error, or the computer is just **** ed up, what can u suggest i do.
