This should allow you to firstly open the song you want and the next paragraph tells you how to save as a SMF
Loading Files: S-MRC or Standard MIDI Files
Insert DOS- or S-MRC-formatted disk with S-MRC Files or Standard MIDI Files (SMF).
Hold SHIFT, press MODE, #2, then ENTER.
S-MRC: Press ENTER two more times.
Standard MIDI Files: Dial LOAD [MIDI FILE], then ENTER twice..
Dial a song, press ENTER, then LOAD.
Hold SHIFT, press MODE, then ENTER.
Saving Files: S-MRC or Standard MIDI Files
Insert DOS- or S-MRC-formatted disk.
Hold SHIFT, press MODE, #2, then ENTER.
S-MRC: Dial [SAVE], then ENTER twice.
Standard MIDI Files: Dial SAVE [MIDI FILE], then ENTER twice.
Create song name with the DIAL or 10-key pad.
Press ENTER, then SAVE.
Hold SHIFT, press MODE, then ENTER.

Is there software for a PC that will allow it to load MC 50 files and have the ability to convert them to Standard Midi Files?

Just convert the song from the MC-50 machine itself, then put the "converted" disk into the PC
