Import at Timestamp - Pro Tools

Posted by Steve on Mon, 03/31/03 - 15:29:17.

I am a member of a band that recorded with a studio that used Sonar. We are sending the files to another studio for additional work. This studio uses Pro Tools and is trying to import the original tracks, but all of the tracks are starting together at the beginning, rather than where in the song they were originally intended. It is our understanding that we need to import them based on their 'broadcast timestamp', but the technicians cannot find this option anywhere in Pro Tools. Can anyone share some insight as to how to do this without returning to the original studio and having them reburned?
Thanks for your assistance.

Re: Import at Timestamp - Pro Tools

The most fool proof way to get the mastering studio the tracks from the record section, is to bounce each one individually, for the time of the project.
That way all the audio clips are the same length, and have the same start time, so no matter what software the mastering studio is using they can play the tracks the way you originally intended them to be heard.
Using Pro-Tools bouncing will produce absolutely no loss of signal quality because everything stays digital.

Re: Import at Timestamp - Pro Tools

Unfortunately we already received the tracks without being bounced the 'ideal' way. The original studio made the assumption that the software we would be using would be able to import and recognize Sonar's timestamp. I am beginning to fear this may cause us to go back to the original studio (again!) and pay for him to bounce each one individually like you commented. If there are any suggestions to avoid these additional costs, it would be greatly appreciated.

OK - thanks for all of your help. I just spoke with the original studio, they admitted fault and are giving us credit against time already paid for and will burn us off copies with all of the spaces in so all tracks at 0:00. Let's hope we can get this project underway before I'm gray!!

Wow, I see. Well, you could find a less expensive studio that can import from pro-tools, or you could get the demo, and hope that the trail software allows you to bounce down the tracks...

Good luck
