You haven't said much about what instruments you play or how you want to record, but <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/n-Track_studio/">n-Track</a> is a good start.

digital radio - help!
Theoretically, what is involved in setting up an online digital radio station. Would I need any specific hardware or just software (what?). How is the music played - streamed? Is it an expensive venture?
Thanks, any help appreciated!

I'd go to <a href="http://www.live365.com">Live365</a> and take it from there because they make the process quite easy for you. There is also <a href="http://www.shoutcast.com/">Shoutcast</a> but I wouldn't recommend it to a novice.

Request for advise on what to use?
I want to tryout an filter applied on Streaming IO Audio, like a Bandpassfilter algorithm. Would you suggest CSound, or C++ with an ASIO or DirectX sdk.
I would truly appreciate your advise and motivation in this matter.

MP3 / WAV extraction
Hi people,
I have a Beatles MP3 disc that I bought for my wife. It has an auto-play/front end menu thingy which is annoying but easily cancelled using task manager.
However, in explorer and Easy CD-Writer, the CD only seems to have 1 large WAV file for each album, not as I expected loads of MP3 files either in 1 long list for all the albums or split into folders.
If I double click on one it plays in media player (not split into tracks though) but if I try to drag and drop it to burn onto an audio CD the program says the .wav format is not supported and won't add it to the list.
There are 22 albums on the CD so they are def. compressed, I just want to extract them, even if it was in the form of 1 file per album/CD.
Help!
I'm New. I'm Looking For Simple Software To Make My Own Beats (
After hearing numerous techno songs with good beats (Landmass by Timo Mass in a favorite) I want to make my own techno song with beats and some rhythm to it. I don't have any physical instruments except a guitar, but I don't need it for techno music. What software could I download or try that would let me just make a beats song from scratch and do effects with it and make it into a WAV or MP3 file?
Thanx
Re: I'm New. I'm Looking For Simple Software To Make My Own Bea
Hey Geoff,
Download a trial of any Cakewalk or Sonar and read the turorial files. For techno use you could freely download the oscillator of ???... or much better if you could download a trial of the Fruity Loops 3.0 and use it's many effects. No instruments needed but it is good to hear if you add your own instrument..... You could even record your guitar sound and make it a sound from outer space... Multitasking is very useful Fruity Loops 3.0, Cakewalk and Sonar 2.0 XL their files can be easily used with each other......wave files should be used with 48 khz stereo not an mp3 'coz it is a compressed file....
if you could please send me a letter and your picture... and I will share my music files for you.....

Well m8y, I can help u there! I had the same problem.
To resolve the problem, you must do the following with
each track...
1-> Select the Track
2-> Open the EVENT LIST window
3-> Add a PROGRAM event (see help file), and set it to
the instument you want for that track
Once repeated for each track, save your song and export
it. It will now play the tracks with your chosen
instruments...
Email me at masterytyrantfuture@hotmail.com if u have

.sng file
My friend has a Korg N274 keyboard that uses floppy disks.I have a couple of these disks with .sng files saved on them. When I put them in my computer they won't play in any of my media players. It comes up saying that the file is not supported.I was wondering if you know of any software that I can use to play these files on my computer. If there are any FREE downloads or trial downloads those would help too. Thanks a lot and sorry if you're tired of getting this problem sent to you.

Thanx a lot.Ya'll don't know how much this means to me. I'm downloading some stuff now to see if it works. I'll get back with ya'll.Thank you again.
Re: .sng file - maybe, or maybe not....
You have to be careful with .SNG files as they are not
always standard, and I can't remember what the exact
format of your Korg .SNG files are.
I would recommend you <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/MidisoftStudio/">download the demo of Midisoft Studio</a>
to see if it works before buying it or the new version.
Post a message back here when you've tried it to tell
us all if it did work.
Jason.
Re: .sng file - maybe, or maybe not....
Reason uses .sng files, you can download a free demo version from the propellerheads website

Help
Is There anyway to remove the beat of a song, so you can make a diifent song.
Re: Help
If you're talking about a song you might rip from a CD, there's little or no chance of doing this to your satisfaction. You'd be removing sound frequencies of bass drum, snare, cymbals and toms - in the process removing anything else which occupies the same frequencies. Basically, the best way to do it would be to get the master tapes. But that's not something anyone can do.
If the song is a MIDI file, you can remove the drum track in your MIDI sequencer.
: Is There anyway to remove the beat of a song, so you can make a diifent song.
Re: Help
As Geoff says - nothing's really going to work very well
for a pre-recorded song, however as snare and kick are
often panned to center a <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/cgi/htdig/htsearch.cgi?method=and&format=builtin-long&config=htdig&restrict=%2Fsmm%2Fprograms%2F&exclude=&words=vocal+remover">vocal remover</a> program may
reduce the prominence of these two drums (but not their
stereo reverb).

killer software player ...
HI all - I'm new to mp3-land. I really like the realplayer media player & how it automatically rips CDs in the background while you're listening (finds the database, sets artist & title & everything automagically). However the rip settings are very limited until you "upgrade" and spend about $120/year!
Any recommendations in the sea of sw for an inexpensive windows player with similar features?
Thanks

There are many free <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/CD_RIPPERS/">rippers</a> out there, but <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Cdex/">CDex</a> is widely regarded as the one to beat.

Problem with sound feedback
Hello,
Every time I try to record vocals on my computer I get a feedback with alittle buzz noise. If I record it without any backround instrumental, the sound is fine. I use a condenser mic and the mic works fine. I've even used a computer mic before the same problem would occur. I checked my sound settings and everything seemed fine. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Re: Problem with sound feedback
A few things are needed before we can help...
Firstly, what is your operating system, sound card,
and software?
Secondly, what do you mean by "feedback"? Are you getting
a high pitched sound that seems to get louder, or are
you getting some of the music from the other tracks
recorded onto your vocal track?

Easier Cakewalk Editing with the Scroll Lock Key
DFreqTIP - Easier Cakewalk Editing with the Scroll Lock Key

** Visit DigiFreq for more great music technology tips & techniques:
http://www.digifreq.com/digifreq/
One of the nicest things about using a sequencer (like those
available from Cakewalk – Sonar, Home Studio, etc) is how easy it is
to do editing tasks on specific parts of your music while you listen
to it. The best way I've found to do this is to loop a section of a
song over and over while making changes. This is accomplished by
doing the following:
1) Drag your mouse in the Time Ruler of one of the Views (such as
the Track or Piano Roll view) to select a certain section of your
song.
2) Click the Set Loop To Selection button in the Loop toolbar. This
will automatically set your software to loop this section of your
song.
3) Press the Spacebar on your computer keyboard to start playback.
4) Use the zoom tools to zoom in on the section of the selection you
want to edit.
5) Now you can do precise note editing with the Piano Roll view or
audio editing with the Track view, etc.
As you start to edit, however, you'll notice something annoying. If
your selection is more than a few measures long, the Cakewalk
software will scroll the screen as it plays through the loop. This
makes it very difficult to do any editing.
As your Cakewalk software plays through the looped selection, press
the Scroll Lock key on your computer keyboard when the section you
want to edit is displayed. The Cakewalk software will continue to
play, but it won't scroll the display. Now you can easily edit your
data while your looped selection continues to play. This allows you
to instantly here your changes. Isn't that great? To start the
display scrolling again, just press the Scroll Lock key a second
time. Happy real-time editing with Cakewalk!

Removing reverb from a vocal
I recently recorded a whole session with a singer and unknowingly left a reverb plug-in switched on. The results are unusable, I was wondering if there was software available that could remove the reverb otherwise I'll have to get her to record it all again.
