Starting from Scratch -- A Beginner's Dilemma
I play guitar, strumstick, banjo, Chinese Ruan,
navive american flute, and various other instruments.
I want to set up a system for recording and sequencing
and I want to lay down some background tracks with
drums, and various "ethnic" world-beat sounds.
I want to spend my time making music, not futzing with
manuals and computers. What software and hardware would
you suggest?
What is the simplest, least expensive, most expandable,
high quality sound system/software?
Do I need everythng to be VST compatible?
Do cheap SoundBlaster cards work OK?
There are so many options... Help!
Re: Starting from Scratch -- A Beginner's Dilemma
The audigy 2...by creative...is well known to be an excellent soundcard for the price. The sound quality is studio quality and more!
If you buy the platinum version you get a module that fits in a drive bay with all the plug-ins for your leads at the front of the computer.Check out www.creative.com for more details.
You get the excellent 'cubasis VST' as well as a whole stack of software with the platinum...infact its 4Gb of software in all!
Cubasis is perfect for your needs as it is a simplified version of the extremely professional (and complicated!) 'Cubase VST'

I want to copy audio tracks from a video cd but can't access them. For exampe, songs from Avril Lavigne's album. How do I do this?
from PC to Mac . .. ..
i junked my pc. it was crashing non-stop, producing fisher-price-like quality sound, and i had to bring up the quality.
i bought a mac. and already my recordings are a million times better then the pc could ever manage!!! only i'm having a hard time finding "the right" software for sequencing, sampling, synth etc. . .(ie. . theres not FL for mac. thats stupid)

Re: from PC to Mac . .. ..
Have you used Reason?? There is a new version just out..
You could consider something like the Logic Audio BigBox which has a few virtual instruments included and will run tons of Virtual instruments as well. Lots of which are available free..

Re: from PC to Mac . .. ..
hey.
i have used reason. (a new-ish version). but it doesn't seem to be that friendly towards me.
i've been looking for emagic products, but. . unfortunately, i'm looking for the immoral versions -that can simply be downloaded.
thanks for your reply.

mp3's
is it possible to convert a mp3 to a file that can be burnt to play on home or car cd players? if so how do you go about doing it?
Re: mp3's
Yes it is very possible :)
There is a whole host of software that will make audio CD's from your mp3's
The most comprehensive software I have found is 'Nero burning ROM' for the price an excellent piece of software all round and very easy to use with a step by step multiple choice format its very easy.
There are dedicated mp3 to CD burners but you may as well get Nero for all its other exellent features for burning any type of CD.

Installing Fatar Studiologic CMK49 on W98 or XP
Installing Fatar Studiologic CMK49 on W98 or XP if necessary.
Does anyone know how to do it? I bought this keyboard and I'm not able to get any sound from PC, I have in my Pc the soundblaster live 5.1 card with bus for media input devices or joystick.
Thank you very much for your kind information
Re: Passport Encore and XP
Yes it is possible. Manually installing the files to a folder of your choice will work. But the only problem is that you have to add the font files you your "System32" driectory folder.

Re: Passport Encore and XP
Passport is not compatible with windows XP :(
Re: Passport Encore and XP
: I think you will need to upgrade to 4.5.3 as the upgrade IS compatible...I think perhaps the older versions are not...
Re: Passport Encore and XP
I am unable to use Passport Encore with XP.
I am getting the message that the Anastasia Font has not been installed. I click OK and the screen goes back to Windows, closing Encore. The Font is installed when I check MY COMPUTER and CONTROLS.
I need an answer. This program has not been (to me)
worth the money invested. I also need to purchase a midi interface to use the keyboard with this program.
I am at a loss as to which one to buy.
Help!

Yamaha SU-10 not tight?
I use the su-10 as slave drum-sampler but realized that the playback per MIDI isn't tight. the sounds always play with a delay of some miliseconds.
Did someone experience the same thing?

I use a powerbook g4, with this I use cubase SX and a Motu 896, this setup cost about £1,400 not including the laptop and it works for me.
Re: Guitar recording on Mac
if you're looking to buy: go with logic.
cubase is cheap: but you sacrafice quality, and patience.
pro tools is good, if you can handle all it has to offer.
the sound card that comes with your g4 is going to be better then anything you can buy under 2 grand. (and already way more advanced then anything by sound blaster. . ... )
the best thing to do (unless your going totally untight professional) is to buy a cheap 6-8 channel mixing. use your built in sound card. and get logic. install the logic drivers. and you've got yourself a reasonably cheap setup.
hope there was at least a little help.
