sound and video cards

can someone please tell me why my sound and video cards will not accept the proper drivers...in the device manager, I get a message that says. this device is installed but not working properly. This could be due tothe driver not being installed. When I go to install a driver, it says I have the best driver currently installed....any help would be great.
