Hi
Im new to all this and have no idea what Im doing. I have a digital video that I would somehow like to post on my web site. The video was captured by a mini dv, I was told it is way to large to host and needs to be converted to a WMV. So my main question is does all that sound right?, which encoder do I need for windows xp? Where can I get them ?, how much do the usually cost?
I've been trying to get this done since december so any help would be greatly appreciated!

For XP, your looking at windows media encoder 9.
Do a search on google. The software is free, and easy to use. It will covert your video to .wmv format and dramatically reduce it's file size while returning good quality. Suitable for uploading to your website.

Dude - do you have to use Windows Media????

There are much better ways to set up an internet
radio station. Check out the <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/STREAMING_MEDIA/">Streaming Media area</a>
of this site.

I suggest you check out Shoutcast on the link above.

streaming a lot of channels

hi...I am setting up a server to stream the TV channels with one TV tuner card in my pc. Can my clients choose to watch different channels at the same time? Are they restricted to watch the channel that I've chose?

I would like to stream audio from my website. I can create the audio file, but am confused as to how to link the file for streaming. I used the directions on the MS site, but I think a windows server is needed for that - am I right? How can I stream without a windows server?

Good news is you can:
For example create your sessions (could be screen grabing or video) but select live broadcast, once this is taking place simple go to a remote machine (assuming you are connected to the internet), and then at the remote machine/machines type the following:
mms://YourMachineAddress
and this will bring up the media player.
The downside:
There is a 10 second delay in the broadcast, I hope this is of some help regards John Proctor

Copied music from Drv C to D - License Problem

Hi

downloaded Windows Media 7.1 from the web site. I copied all of my CDs to hard drive. Loved it! I bought a bigger hard drive and copied all of the WMA files from the 10gig disk to the 30gig disk after installing Windows Media on the 30 gig disk. I cannot play my music and have a license problem. I had backed up my licenses as suggested and restored this to the new drive. I then get a message that I need to connect to the web site to authorise the license restore. This happens automatically but I then get errors. 1st time I was told that my license files were corrupted. Restored these again and still get an error message from the web site when trying to restore licenses.

Is there anyway around this when adding a new and bigger hard drive to a machine.

OR

Is there another freeware player that I can use to play my WMA files. I don't want to sit and copy all of them again. Typing in the titles, album, category and artist was a mamoth task!

Can anyone help.
