Quartz Studio Free is an easy to use multi-track digital audio recorder, perfect for quick creation of music tracks or audio assembly and.... Free ! (no limitation - this is not a demo version !).

Moreover, it features the basic functionalities required to use the Digital Sound Planet Virtual Studios - also Freely available registering on the Digital Sound Planet site.

The program also includes, among other features, 4+2 audio tracks, real-time processing effects (Reverb et Chorus) on each track, along with volume and pan, audio track data editing functions, a spacialization interface, Skin change, etc...

Just let me tell you, this thing is just so cool. Especially for those with XP - just crank up those speakers for the awesome sound as your computer crashes with a sonic boom like heavy metal. I was so happy to get alot of support with this program too. Especially with the plugins. UI was practically begging for more power as I was plugin in the computer constantly hoping the power would come back on and my sister-in-law let me pump my plugin into her while my wife was away to relieve my stress over the program. Thanks Quartz for the greatest night in my life! My sister-in-law is the greatest love maker ever! Whoohoo!

Just jumped through all the hoops to get registered, and select a user name, and then a nickname, in order to get to the Quartz Audio site to download the free recording software,
and Surprise!............................
when I hit the official "Download" button, it comes back
"Sorry, I'm out of the office till May 11th", or something like that.
In other words, don't waste your time going through all the requirements. These folks aren't "all there", if you know what I mean?

Mixing Studio

I have been able to use this multi-track mixer and was having a lot of fun but burnt out the slave drive . This is the second drive that has gone down suspiciously . The operating system of another drive didn't like the fact that I had installed the proram in the D drive with the other hard drive , the one that I fortunately was setting up before this one went down . Today , the tech fellow at the Best Buy said that it was probably just general wear and tear and not the program after I described what had happened the last three weeks . I will start all over with another new file of waves to go to the mixer where I can add piano later . Too bad I lost so much , including the documents and newer photo files of my paintings .
I have been unsuccessful in registering and could have used a little help in the past . I have written to the Quartz people at the addresses they suggested and got no response at all . The initial recordings , if recorded in another program are clear while the over dubs are very se
nsitive issues but the problem can be gotten around . It is possible that my computer was too slow though it has 192 Ram and is Pentium 350 and well whithin the system requirements .

Many things about this program were fun and usable . I didn't keep any of the mixes but the export wave was very useful and easily put on Cds afterward . I only was able to d one CD before the hard drive broke down , this time , and it was the slave at that , go figure .

I did finnish one Cd but now I continue to get a message that my current disc doesn't have the room for the wave files that I am importing . I didn't change any settings and the wave files are not any longer than the last twenty or more . I have since uninstalled twice and reinstalled with the same results . It is a shame as now I am suspicious of some form of curruption to my disc . Hard disc are really not a dime a dozen so I will probably slow up for now . It made me wonder if this program was actually shareware instead of freeware , that is on a timer like the Mp3 files on the program that stop working fairly quickly while it is promised on the buyable program . It was fun while it lasted . RMB

I cant figure the stupid thing out! I am using my guitar as the recording source. Very fustrating-I cant get it to play back what i recorded-all i get is silence. It played back once, but i cant figure out how i did it! Aaaarrrggg! F%*#!!!!!

Say can anyone help me to set this up so I can here what I am recording or playing I am runing my guitar thought a M-Audio usb pro, and if I plug my headphones into the usb pro I can hear it but I can't get any sound out af my computer speakers and I've messed with the sound proporties on my pc from m-audio back to the sound card and neither well give me sound out of my speakers what the hell I am losing my mind here please help if you can thanks

This is probably a very powerful piece of software, but it's the worst interface design I've ever seen, and the help is nothing more than a collection of tool tips. All the default settings are the opposite of what would allow you to record anything, so you have to fumble your way thru discovering how to set the recording track, then how to hear what you've recorded, then how to set the recording time so you get more than 5 seconds. Good features like the waveform display are hidden in menus that are difficult to get to, and forget editing.... Awful, awful piece of design.

I have used in actual studio. Very easy to use, but bad background noise. You will need something like cool edit to clean up the tracks. Of all the software I have, I keep comming back to this one. Regestration was such a hassle, I wouldn't recommend it. Use the free version. (Don't forget to reset the right stop every time or you only get 5 seconds)

i have no noise, i will check again. Where could noise come from, except from the soundcard and connectors ? the software si juste putting on disk what the soundcard is sending him, no ?

I agree with Stew, don't waste your time. It took my 2 weeks to record a few songs because the stupid program kept screwing up. It kept on saying "auidio flow break- too much information" every minute or so. THe program is useless.

Yes, in the freeware version

click on the L button on one track and R button on the second, set the locator positions, and click record !

Make sure things like microsoft's find fast and write behind cache on hard drives is turned off.
Also turn off any virus software. Anything that might interupt cpu cycles or hard drive writes.

you have to set the "Right Locater" to the length of the part of which you are recording.... the program ALWAYS records between the Left & Right Locaters at ALL TIMES...... so if you know the song is 4 minutes set the right locater to "00-04-00-00" before you start recording..... this will allocate the neccesary disk space for ALL tracks for the whole song
